1	피신도시를 정해 두다 여호와께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다.	The Lord also spake unto Joshua, saying,
2	“이스라엘 사람들에게 말해 주어라! ‘내가 모세를 시켜 너희에게 말해 준 대로 피신도시(도피성)를 정해 두어라.	Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:
3	자기도 모르는 사이에 실수로 살인한 사람은 그리로 달아날 수 있도록 하여라. 너희는 그런 도시를, 사람을 죽인 것을 앙갚음하려는 사람으로부터 피할 수 있는 곳으로 삼도록 하여라.	That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.
4	그렇게 달아나서 이런 도시 가운데 하나로 온 사람이 있다고 하자. 그는 그 도시의 성문 출입구에 서서 그 도시 원로들의 귀에 들리도록 자기 사정을 털어놓도록 하여라. 그러면 원로들은 그를 그 도시에 받아들이고, 그에게 지낼 곳을 마련해 주어 자기들과 함께 살도록 하여라.	And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.
5	사람을 죽인 것을 앙갚음하려는 사람이 뒤쫓아 와도, 살인한 그 사람을 그의 손에 넘겨주지 않도록 하여라. 이웃을 이전에 미워하지 않았는데 자기도 모르는 사이에 죽였기 때문이다.	And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; because he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not beforetime.
6	그는 그 도시 안에 머물 수 있다. 마침내 그가 무리 앞에 서서 재판을 받고 그 당시 대제사장이 죽는다고 하자. 그때는 사람을 죽인 그 사람이 달아나 빠져나온 도시의 자기 집으로 다시 돌아갈 수 있다.’”	And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.
7	이스라엘 사람들이 거룩한 장소로 정한 곳은 납달리 산지에 있는 갈릴리의 게데스, 에브라임 산지의 세겜, 유다 산지의 기랴다르바 곧 헤브론이었다.	And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjath–arba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah.
8	또 여리고 동쪽 요르단강 건너편에서는 르우벤 지파의 평지 광야에 있는 베셀, 갓 지파의 길르앗에 있는 라못, 므낫세 지파의 바산에 있는 골란이었다.	And on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.
9	이곳들을, 모든 이스라엘 사람들과 그들 가운데 사는 나그네들을 위한 피신도시(도피성)로 삼았다. 그리하여 실수로 사람을 죽였을 때 그리로 달아날 수 있도록 했다. 살인한 사람이 무리 앞에 설 때까지는, 사람을 죽인 것을 앙갚음하려는 사람의 손에 죽지 않도록 했다.	These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.
