1	기브온으로 몰려온 적들을 물리치다 예루살렘 임금 아도니세덱이 여호수아가 아이를 빼앗아 완전히 없애 버렸다는 소식을 들었다. 여리고성과 임금에게 한 것처럼 아이성과 임금에게 했다는 소식이었다. 또 기브온에 사는 사람들이 이스라엘과 평화롭게 지내기로 하고 그들 가운데서 산다는 소식도 들었다.	Now it came to pass, when Adoni–zedek king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;
2	그런 소식을 듣고 예루살렘 사람들은 몹시 두려워했다. 기브온은 임금이 있는 도시 가운데 하나로 큰 도시이고, 아이보다 더 크며 기브온 남자들은 모두 용사였기 때문이다.	That they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.
3	예루살렘 임금 아도니세덱이 헤브론 임금 호함, 야르뭇 임금 비람, 라기스 임금 야비아, 에글론 임금 드빌에게 사람을 보내어 요청했다.	Wherefore Adoni–zedek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,
4	“내게 올라와서 나를 도와주십시오. 기브온을 칩시다! 그들은 여호수아가 거느린 이스라엘 사람들과 평화롭게 지내기로 했기 때문입니다.”	Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.
5	그리하여 아모리 사람들의 다섯 임금이 모여 올라왔다. 그들은 예루살렘 임금, 헤브론 임금, 야르뭇 임금, 라기스 임금, 에글론 임금이었는데 저마다 군대를 거느리고 있었다. 그들이 기브온에 맞서 진을 치고서는 싸움을 걸었다.	Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.
6	그러자 기브온 사람들이 길갈 진영의 여호수아에게 사람을 보내어 요청했다. “당신의 종들인 우리를 내팽개치지 마십시오! 빨리 우리에게로 올라와서 우리를 건져 내 주십시오! 우리를 도와주십시오! 산지에 사는 아모리 임금들이 모두 함께 우리에게로 몰려왔습니다.”	And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.
7	그리하여 여호수아가 온 군대와 용사들을 모두 거느리고 길갈에서 올라갔다.	So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valour.
8	그때 여호와께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. “그들을 두려워하지 마라. 내가 너의 손에 그들을 넘겨주겠다. 그들 가운데서 어느 누구도 너를 이기지 못할 것이다.”	And the Lord said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.
9	그리하여 여호수아가 기습적으로 그들에게 들이닥쳤다. 길갈을 떠나 밤새도록 올라간 것이다.	Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.
10	여호와께서 이스라엘 앞에서 그들을 혼란에 빠뜨리시자, 이스라엘은 기브온에서 그들에게 큰 패배를 안겨 주었다. 벳호론의 오르막길에서 아세가와 막게다까지 뒤쫓으며 쳐부수었다.	And the Lord discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Beth–horon, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.
11	그들이 이스라엘 앞에서 달아나다가 벳호론의 내리막을 지날 때였다. 여호와께서 큰 우박이 하늘에서 그들 위로 쏟아지게 하셨다. 아세가에 이르기까지 그렇게 하셔서, 사람들이 맞아 죽었다. 이스라엘 사람들의 칼에 맞아 죽은 사람들보다 우박에 맞아 죽은 사람들이 더 많았다.	And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Beth–horon, that the Lord cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.
12	그 무렵에 여호수아가 여호와께 말씀드렸다. 여호와께서 아모리 사람들을 이스라엘 사람들 앞에서 쓰러지게 하시던 날이었다. 이스라엘이 보는 데서 소리쳤다. “해야, 기브온에 멈추어 서라! 달아, 아얄론 골짜기에 멈추어 서라!”	Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
13	그러자 해가 멈추어 서고 달이 머물러 서서, 마침내 이스라엘 민족이 적들에게 다 앙갚음할 수 있었다. 이 일이 야샬의 책에 적혀 있지 않은가? 해는 하루 꼬박 하늘 한가운데에 머물러 서 있었고, 서둘러 내려가지 않았다.	And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
14	그날처럼 여호와께서 사람의 목소리를 들으시는 일은 이전에도 없었고 앞으로도 없을 것이다. 정말 여호와께서 이스라엘을 위하여 싸워 주신 것이다.	And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the Lord hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the Lord fought for Israel.
15	여호수아는 온 이스라엘 군대와 함께 길갈 진영으로 돌아왔다.	And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.
16	다섯 임금을 죽이다 다섯 임금은 달아나서 막게다에 있는 동굴에 몸을 숨겼다.	But these five kings fled, and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah.
17	막게다에 있는 동굴에 몸을 숨기고 있던 다섯 임금을 누군가가 만났다는 말을 여호수아가 전해 들었다.	And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah.
18	여호수아는 명령을 내렸다. “동굴 어귀에 큰 돌을 여러 개 굴려다 놓아라. 그리고 그 동굴을 맡아 지킬 사람들을 두어 그 임금들을 지켜보게 해라.	And Joshua said, Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave, and set men by it for to keep them:
19	여러분은 머뭇거리지 마라! 적들을 뒤쫓아 가서 그들의 꼬리를 공격해라. 그들이 자기들 도시로 들어가지 못하게 해라. 여호와 여러분의 하나님이 그들을 여러분의 손에 넘겨주셨다.”	And stay ye not, but pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for the Lord your God hath delivered them into your hand.
20	여호수아가 거느린 이스라엘 사람들이 그들에게 큰 패배를 안겨 주고 그들을 끝장내 버렸다. 그들 가운데서 살아남은 사람들은 요새화된 여러 도시로 들어갔다.	And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, that the rest which remained of them entered into fenced cities.
21	온 백성이 막게다에 진을 친 여호수아에게 무사히 돌아왔다. 아무도 이스라엘에게 막말을 하지 않았다.	And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.
22	여호수아가 말했다. “동굴 어귀를 열고 동굴에서 다섯 임금을 끌어내어 나에게로 데리고 와라!”	Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave.
23	사람들이 그대로 하여 이 다섯 임금을 동굴에서 끌어내어 여호수아에게로 데리고 왔다. 그들은 예루살렘 임금, 헤브론 임금, 야르뭇 임금, 라기스 임금, 에글론 임금이었다.	And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.
24	사람들이 이 임금들을 끌어내어 여호수아에게 데리고 왔다. 그러자 여호수아는 이스라엘 사람들을 모두 불러 놓고는 자기와 함께 싸우러 나갔던 군사의 대장들에게 명령했다. “가까이 와서 이 임금들의 목을 발로 밟아라!” 그들이 가까이 와서 임금들의 목을 발로 밟았다.	And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.
25	여호수아가 그들에게 말했다. “두려워하지도 말고 겁먹지도 마라! 용기를 내고 강해져라! 그대들과 싸우는 모든 적에게 여호와께서 이처럼 하실 것이다.”	And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the Lord do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.
26	그러고 나서 여호수아는 그 임금들을 쳐 죽여 다섯 나무에 매달았다. 그들은 저녁때까지 나무에 매달려 있었다.	And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.
27	해 질 무렵에 여호수아가 명령했다. 그래서 사람들이 나무에서 그들을 내려서 그들이 몸을 숨겼던 동굴에 던져 넣었다. 그리고 큰 돌 여러 개를 동굴 어귀에 두었는데, 바로 오늘까지 그대로 있다.	And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had been hid, and laid great stones in the cave’s mouth, which remain until this very day.
28	요르단강 서쪽 땅을 빼앗다 그날에 여호수아가 막게다를 빼앗아 날카로운 칼로 쳐부수었다. 막게다 임금과 막게다 안에 있던 모든 사람을 완전히 없애 버렸다. 한 사람도 살려 두지 않았고, 막게다 임금에게는 여리고 임금에게 한 것처럼 했다.	And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof he utterly destroyed, them, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho.
29	여호수아는 온 이스라엘 군대를 거느리고 막게다에서 립나로 건너가서 립나와 싸웠다.	Then Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah:
30	여호와께서 립나와 그 임금도 이스라엘의 손에 넘겨주셨다. 여호수아가 립나를 칼로 쳐부수고, 립나 안에 있던 사람들을 모조리 죽였다. 한 사람도 살려 두지 않았고, 그 임금에게는 여리고 임금에게 한 것처럼 했다.	And the Lord delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho.
31	여호수아는 온 이스라엘 군대를 거느리고 립나에서 라기스로 건너가서 그 앞에 진을 치고 라기스와 싸웠다.	And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it:
32	여호와께서 라기스를 이스라엘의 손에 넘겨주셨다. 이스라엘은 이튿날에 라기스를 빼앗아 칼로 쳐부수고, 라기스 안에 있던 사람들을 모조리 죽였다. 립나에게 한 그대로 했다.	And the Lord delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, which took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.
33	그때 게셀 임금 호람이 올라와서 라기스를 도왔다. 여호수아가 호람과 그의 백성을 쳐부수어 마침내 한 사람도 살려 두지 않았다.	Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.
34	여호수아는 온 이스라엘 군대를 거느리고 라기스에서 에글론으로 건너가서 그 앞에 진을 치고 에글론과 싸웠다.	And from Lachish Joshua passed unto Eglon, and all Israel with him; and they encamped against it, and fought against it:
35	그들은 그날 에글론을 빼앗아 날카로운 칼로 쳐부수고, 그날 에글론 안에 있던 모든 사람을 완전히 없애 버렸다. 라기스에게 한 그대로 했다.	And they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.
36	여호수아는 온 이스라엘 군대를 거느리고 에글론에서 헤브론으로 올라가서 헤브론과 싸웠다.	And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it:
37	그들은 헤브론을 빼앗아 날카로운 칼로 쳐부수고, 헤브론 임금과 헤브론의 모든 도시와 헤브론 안에 있던 모든 사람을 쳐부수었다. 한 사람도 살려 두지 않았다. 에글론에게 한 그대로 했다. 여호수아가 헤브론과 헤브론 안에 있던 모든 사람을 완전히 없애 버렸다.	And they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein.
38	여호수아는 온 이스라엘 군대를 거느리고 길을 돌려 드빌로 가서 드빌과 싸웠다.	And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it:
39	드빌을 빼앗고 드빌 임금을 사로잡고 드빌의 모든 도시를 빼앗았다. 이스라엘이 그 모든 것을 날카로운 칼로 쳐부수고, 드빌 안에 있던 모든 사람을 완전히 없애 버렸다. 한 사람도 살려 두지 않았다. 헤브론에게 한 것처럼, 드빌과 드빌 임금에게 했다. 립나와 립나 임금에게 한 것처럼 했다.	And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to her king.
40	여호수아가 온 땅, 곧 산지와 네게브와 세펠라와 산허리와 그곳의 모든 임금을 쳐부수었다. 한 사람도 살려 두지 않았고, 숨 쉬는 것은 무엇이든 완전히 없애 버렸다. 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님께서 명령하신 대로였다.	So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the Lord God of Israel commanded.
41	여호수아가 가데스바르네아에서 가자까지, 또 고센 땅 전역과 기브온까지 쳐부수었다.	And Joshua smote them from Kadesh–barnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.
42	이 모든 임금과 그들의 땅을 여호수아가 단 한 번에 빼앗았다. 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님께서 이스라엘을 위하여 싸우셨기 때문이다.	And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the Lord God of Israel fought for Israel.
43	여호수아가 온 이스라엘 군대를 거느리고 길갈 진영으로 돌아왔다.	And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.
