1	하나님의 집 짓는 일이 다시 시작되다 그때 학개 예언자와 잇도의 아들 스가랴 예언자가 유다와 예루살렘에 있는 유다 사람들에게 예언했다. 그들 위에 계신 이스라엘의 하나님의 이름으로 예언한 것이다.	Then the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even unto them.
2	그러자 스알디엘의 아들 스룹바벨과 여호사닥의 아들 예수아가 일어나 예루살렘에 하나님의 집을 짓기 시작했다. 그들과 함께 하나님의 예언자들이 있어서 그들을 뒷받침해 주고 있었다.	Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.
3	그때 유프라테스강 건너편 지역의 총독 닷드내와 스달보스내와 그들의 동료들이 오더니, 그들에게 이렇게 말했다. “누가 너희에게 명령하여 이 집을 지으라고 했느냐? 이 건축물을 마무리하라고 했느냐?”	At the same time came to them Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shethar–boznai, and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this wall?
4	그들은 또한 이렇게 말했다. “이 건물을 짓고 있는 사람들의 이름은 무엇이냐?”	Then said we unto them after this manner, What are the names of the men that make this building?
5	그러나 그들의 하나님이 유다 원로들을 보살펴 주셨다. 사람들은 그들이 하는 일을 멈출 수 없었다. 보고서가 다리우스에게 이르고 여기에 대해 답이 돌아올 때까지 그랬다.	But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they returned answer by letter concerning this matter.
6	다리우스 임금에게 보낸 편지를 옮겨 적은 것이 이러하다. 유프라테스강 건너편 지역의 총독 닷드내와 스달보스내와 유프라테스강 건너편에 있는 그의 동료 관리들이 다리우스 임금에게 올린 것이다.	The copy of the letter that Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shethar–boznai, and his companions the Apharsachites, which were on this side the river, sent unto Darius the king:
7	그들이 그에게 보낸 글에는 이렇게 써 있었다. “다리우스 임금님께. 모든 일이 잘되시기를 기원합니다.	They sent a letter unto him, wherein was written thus; Unto Darius the king, all peace.
8	임금님께 알려 드립니다. 우리는 유다 지역에 가서 크신 하나님의 집에 가 보았습니다. 그 집은 커다란 돌로 지어지고 있었고, 벽에는 나무를 넣고 있었습니다. 이 일이 그들의 손에서 꼼꼼하게 제대로 이루어지고 있었습니다.	Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.
9	그래서 우리가 그 원로들에게 물었습니다. 그들에게 이렇게 말했습니다. ‘누가 너희에게 명령을 내려서 이 집을 짓고 있느냐? 이 건축물을 마무리하고 있느냐?’	Then asked we those elders, and said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house, and to make up these walls?
10	또한 그들의 이름을 물어보았습니다. 그들의 우두머리로 있는 사람들의 이름을 적어 두었다가 임금님께 알려 드리려는 것이었습니다.	We asked their names also, to certify thee, that we might write the names of the men that were the chief of them.
11	그들은 우리에게 이렇게 대답했습니다. ‘우리는 하늘과 땅의 하나님의 종들입니다. 아주 여러 해 전에 지어졌던 집을 짓고 있지요. 그 집은 이스라엘의 크신 임금님이 짓고 마무리했습니다.	And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.
12	그런데 우리 조상들이 하늘의 하나님의 화를 돋우었습니다. 그 때문에 하나님이 그들을 바빌론 임금 칼데아 사람 네부카드네자르의 손에 넘겨주셨습니다. 그가 이 집을 무너뜨리고 백성을 바빌로니아로 사로잡아 갔습니다.	But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.
13	그러나 바빌론 임금 키루스 첫째 해에 키루스 임금이 하나님의 이 집을 지으라는 명령을 내렸습니다.	But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon the same king Cyrus made a decree to build this house of God.
14	또한 하나님의 집에는 금과 은으로 된 그릇들이 있었는데, 이것들을 네부카드네자르가 예루살렘에 있는 성전에서 가지고 나와 바빌론에 있는 신전으로 옮겨 갔었지요. 키루스 임금은 이것들을 바빌론에 있는 신전에서 꺼내, 자신이 총독으로 세운 세스바살이라는 이름을 가진 사람에게 넘겨주게 했습니다.	And the vessels also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought them into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one, whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor;
15	키루스 임금이 그에게 말했습니다. 「이 그릇들을 가지고 가서 예루살렘에 있는 성전에 두시오. 하나님의 집이 제자리에 다시 지어져야 하오.」	And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.
16	그래서 바로 그 세스바살이 와서 예루살렘에 있는 하나님의 집을 지을 터를 다졌습니다. 그때부터 지금까지 짓고 있지만 아직 다 끝내지 못했습니다.’	Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished.
17	이제 임금님만 괜찮으시다면, 그곳 바빌론에 있는 국가 문서 보관소를 뒤져 보십시오. 키루스 임금이 예루살렘에 하나님의 이 집을 지으라는 명령을 내린 적이 있는지 알아보십시오. 그리고 이 일에 관해 임금님의 뜻이 어떤지 우리에게 알려 주십시오.”	Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king’s treasure house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.
