1	유다 사람들이 원수들을 끝장내다 열두째 달인 아다르달 열셋째 날이 되었다. 임금의 말과 그의 법을 행동으로 옮길 때가 된 것이다. 그날 유다 사람들의 원수들은 유다 사람들을 마음대로 하기를 바랐었다. 그러나 거꾸로 유다 사람들이 자기네를 미워하는 사람들을 마음대로 하게 되었다.	Now in the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king’s commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them;)
2	유다 사람들은 크세르크세스 임금의 모든 행정 구역에서 자기네 도시로 모여들었다. 손을 뻗어 그들을 해치려 하는 사람들을 치려는 것이었다. 아무도 그들 앞에 서 있을 수 없었다. 그들을 무서워하는 마음이 모든 백성에게 생긴 것이다.	The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt: and no man could withstand them; for the fear of them fell upon all people.
3	모든 행정 구역 관리들과 파견 행정관들과 총독들과 왕궁에서 일하는 사람들이 유다 사람들을 떠받들어 주었다. 모르드개를 무서워하는 마음이 생긴 것이다.	And all the rulers of the provinces, and the lieutenants, and the deputies, and officers of the king, helped the Jews; because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them.
4	모르드개는 왕궁에서 힘이 있었고, 그의 명성은 온 행정 구역에 퍼졌다. 모르드개는 점점 더 힘이 커졌다.	For Mordecai was great in the king’s house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces: for this man Mordecai waxed greater and greater.
5	유다 사람들은 모든 원수를 쳤다. 칼로 치고 죽이고 끝장냈다. 자신들을 미워하는 사람들을 자기들 좋을 대로 다루었다.	Thus the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction, and did what they would unto those that hated them.
6	수사 성채에서도 유다 사람들은 500명을 죽이고 끝장냈다.	And in Shushan the palace the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men.
7	바르산다다, 달본, 아스바다,	And Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha,
8	보라다, 아달리야, 아리다다,	And Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,
9	바르마스다, 아리새, 아리대, 왜사다,	And Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vajezatha,
10	곧 하만의 열 아들을 죽였다. 하만은 함므다다의 아들이요, 유다 사람들을 괴롭히던 사람이었다. 유다 사람들은 이들의 재산에는 손을 대지 않았다.	The ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, slew they; but on the spoil laid they not their hand.
11	그날 수사 성채에서 죽인 사람의 숫자가 임금에게 올라왔다.	On that day the number of those that were slain in Shushan the palace was brought before the king.
12	임금이 에스더 왕비에게 말했다. “수사 성채에서 유다 사람들이 500명을 죽이고 끝장냈소. 하만의 열 아들도 그렇게 했소. 내가 다스리는 나머지 행정 구역에서는 또 어떻게 했겠소? 이제 그대가 갖고 싶은 것이 무엇이오? 그대에게 주겠소. 그대가 아직도 바라는 것이 무엇이오? 그대로 해 주겠소.”	And the king said unto Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces? now what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what is thy request further? and it shall be done.
13	에스더가 말했다. “임금님이 괜찮으시다면, 수사에 있는 유다 사람들에게, 오늘 하라고 주어진 법대로 내일도 하게 해 주세요. 그리고 하만의 열 아들의 시체를 나무 기둥에 매달게 해 주세요.”	Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews which are in Shushan to do to morrow also according unto this day’s decree, and let Haman’s ten sons be hanged upon the gallows.
14	임금은 그대로 하라고 했고, 수사에 법이 주어졌다. 하만의 열 아들의 시체를 나무 기둥에 매달았다.	And the king commanded it so to be done: and the decree was given at Shushan; and they hanged Haman’s ten sons.
15	수사에 있던 유다 사람들은 아다르달 열넷째 날에도 모였다. 그들은 수사에서 300명을 죽였지만 그 재산에는 손을 대지 않았다.	For the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men at Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their hand.
16	임금이 다스리는 여러 행정 구역에 있던 나머지 유다 사람들도 함께 모여, 자신의 목숨을 지키기 위해 일어났다. 그들은 자기네 원수들에게서 벗어나 편히 쉼을 누렸다. 자기들을 미워하는 사람 75,000명을 죽였지만 그 재산에는 손을 대지 않았다.	But the other Jews that were in the king’s provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they laid not their hands on the prey,
17	아다르달 열셋째 날이었다. 열넷째 날에는 쉬고 그날을 잔치하고 즐기는 날로 보냈다.	On the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same rested they, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.
18	수사에 있는 유다 사람들은 열셋째 날과 열넷째 날에 함께 모였다. 열다섯째 날에는 쉬고, 그날을 잔치하고 즐기는 날로 삼았다.	But the Jews that were at Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth day thereof, and on the fourteenth thereof; and on the fifteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.
19	그래서 마을에 사는 유다 사람들, 곧 성벽이 없는 도시에 사는 사람들은 아다르달 열넷째 날을 명절로 지켰다. 그날을 즐기며 잔치하며 좋아하는 날로 보냈다. 사람들이 서로 한 몫씩 주고받곤 했다.	Therefore the Jews of the villages, that dwelt in the unwalled towns, made the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.
20	부림절을 정하다 모르드개는 이 일을 적어 두었다. 그는 크세르크세스 임금이 다스리는 모든 행정 구역에 있는 모든 유다 사람에게 글을 보냈다. 가까이 사는 사람들과 멀리 사는 사람들에게 모두 보낸 것이다.	And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the Jews that were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both nigh and far,
21	그들에게 아다르달 열넷째 날과 열다섯째 날을 해마다 지키게 했다.	To stablish this among them, that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly,
22	유다 사람들이 그들의 원수들에게서 벗어나 자기네끼리 편히 쉰 날로 지키게 한 것이다. 그들에게는 이달에 슬픔이 기쁨으로, 슬퍼하는 날이 좋아하는 날로 뒤바뀌었다. 그날을, 잔치하고 즐거워하고 서로 한 몫씩 주고받으며 가난한 사람들에게 선물을 주는 날로 만들었다.	As the days wherein the Jews rested from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.
23	유다 사람들은 자기들이 하기 시작한 것을 계속하면서, 모르드개가 그들에게 적어 보낸 것을 받아들였다.	And the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written unto them;
24	유다 사람들을 괴롭히던 함므다다의 아들 아각 사람 하만은 유다 사람들을 끝장내려고 꾀를 냈었다. 그는 부르라는 주사위를 던져서, 그들을 혼란에 빠뜨려 끝장내려 했었다.	Because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them;
25	그러나 에스더가 임금 앞으로 갔을 때 임금은 글을 써서 명령을 내렸다. 하만이 유다 사람들을 해치려고 꾀한 나쁜 일을 그에게 되돌려주어야 한다는 것이었다. 또 그와 그의 아들들은 나무 기둥에 매달아야 한다는 것이었다.	But when Esther came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.
26	그래서 부르라는 이름에서 따와 이 두 날을 부림이라고 불렀다. 이 편지에 모든 일이 적혀 있다. 그들이 이 일을 보았고, 그들에게 이 일이 일어났다.	Wherefore they called these days Purim after the name of Pur. Therefore for all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and which had come unto them,
27	그래서 유다 사람들, 그들의 후손, 그들과 함께한 사람들은 뜻을 세우고 그렇게 하기로 했다. 이 두 날을 문서에 적힌 대로 제때에 해마다 빠뜨리지 않고 지키기로 한 것이다.	The Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their appointed time every year;
28	이날들은 세대마다, 가문마다, 행정 구역마다, 도시마다 기억하면서 지켜야 한다. 이 부림의 날들은 유다 사람들 사이에서 결코 사라지면 안 된다. 이날들을 기념하는 것은 그들의 후손도 멈추면 안 된다.	And that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the memorial of them perish from their seed.
29	아비하일의 딸 에스더 왕비는 유다 사람 모르드개와 함께 힘주어 글을 써 보냈다. 부림절에 관한 이 두 번째 편지에 힘을 보태 주려는 것이었다.	Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority, to confirm this second letter of Purim.
30	모르드개는 모든 유다 사람들에게 문서를 보냈다. 크세르크세스의 왕국 127개 행정 구역으로 평화롭고 참된 말을 적어 보냈다.	And he sent the letters unto all the Jews, to the hundred twenty and seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth,
31	“이 부림의 날들을 제때에 지켜야 한다. 유다 사람 모르드개와 에스더 왕비가 그들에게 하라고 한 대로 해야 한다. 자신들과 후손을 위해 금식하며 울부짖는 일을 하기로 한 대로 해야 한다.	To confirm these days of Purim in their times appointed, according as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had enjoined them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their seed, the matters of the fastings and their cry.
32	에스더의 지시로 이 부림절에 관한 일이 굳게 세워지고 문서로 기록되었다.”	And the decree of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.
