1	여호와의 천사가 보김에서 백성을 꾸짖다 여호와의 천사가 길갈에서 보김으로 올라와서 말했다. “내가 너희를 이집트에서 올라오게 했고, 내가 너희 조상들에게 주기로 굳게 약속한 땅으로 너희를 데려왔다. 그러고는 내가 말했다. ‘내가 너희에게 한 언약을 나는 영원히 깨뜨리지 않을 것이다.	And an angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.
2	그러므로 너희도 이 땅에 사는 사람들하고는 아무런 약속도 맺지 마라. 그들의 제단은 무너뜨려라.’ 그러나 너희는 내 목소리를 듣지 않았다. 너희가 그렇게 한 까닭이 무엇이냐?	And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?
3	나는 이렇게도 말했다. ‘그들을 내가 너희 앞에서 내쫓아 주지 않을 것이다. 그래서 그들이 너희에게 위협이 되고, 그들의 신들은 너희에게 덫이 될 것이다.’”	Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.
4	여호와의 천사가 모든 이스라엘 사람에게 이런 말을 하자, 백성이 목청을 돋우어 울었다.	And it came to pass, when the angel of the Lord spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.
5	그래서 사람들은 그곳의 이름을 보김이라고 하고, 거기서 여호와께 희생제물을 바쳤다.	And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the Lord.
6	여호수아가 죽고 여호와를 모르는 세대가 들어서다 여호수아가 백성을 내보냈다. 그래서 이스라엘 사람들은 저마다 나누어 받아 차지할 땅으로 갔다.	And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.
7	백성이 여호수아의 모든 날 동안에 여호와를 섬겼다. 여호수아보다 오래 살았던 원로들의 모든 날 동안에도 그렇게 했다. 이들은 여호와께서 이스라엘을 위해 해 주신 온갖 큰일을 본 사람들이었다.	And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the Lord, that he did for Israel.
8	여호와의 종, 눈의 아들 여호수아가 죽었다. 110세였다.	And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died, being an hundred and ten years old.
9	사람들은 그가 나누어 받은 땅의 경계 안에 있는 에브라임 산지 딤낫헤레스에 그를 묻었다. 가아스산 북쪽이었다.	And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath–heres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.
10	그 세대 사람들도 다 죽어 조상들에게로 갔다. 그 뒤로는 다른 세대가 들어섰다. 그들은 여호와를 알지 못하며 여호와께서 이스라엘을 위해 하신 일도 알지 못했다.	And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the Lord, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.
11	이스라엘이 여호와를 떠나다 이스라엘 사람들은 여호와께서 보시기에 나쁜 짓을 저질러 바알들을 섬겼다.	And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim:
12	그들은 조상들의 하나님 여호와 곧 이집트에서 조상들을 이끌어 내신 분을 떠났다. 그러고는 다른 신들 곧 그들 둘레에 있는 여러 백성의 신들을 따라가서 그 신들에게 엎드려 절하여 여호와를 노엽게 했다.	And they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the Lord to anger.
13	그들은 여호와를 떠나 바알과 아슈타르테를 섬겼다.	And they forsook the Lord, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.
14	여호와께서 이스라엘을 향한 노여움으로 불타오르셨다. 그래서 약탈하는 자들의 손에 그들을 내주셔서 그들을 약탈하게 하셨다. 여호와께서 그들을 둘레에 있는 원수들의 손에 내주셔서, 그들이 원수들 앞에서 더는 버텨 내지 못했다.	And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.
15	그들이 어디로 나가든지 여호와께서 손으로 그들을 쳐서 재난을 내리셨다. 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로였다. 여호와께서 그들에게 말씀하신 대로, 여호와께서 그들에게 단호하게 말씀하신 대로였다. 엄청난 어려움이 그들에게 닥친 것이다.	Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the Lord was against them for evil, as the Lord had said, and as the Lord had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.
16	그러자 여호와께서는 재판관(사사)들을 세워서, 그들을 강탈자들의 손에서 구해 내게 하셨다.	Nevertheless the Lord raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.
17	그러나 그 재판관(사사)들의 말도 그들이 듣지 않았다. 다른 신들을 뒤따라 놀아나고 그것들에게 엎드려 절한 것이다. 조상들이 걸어온 길을 서둘러 벗어난 것이다. 조상들은 여호와의 명령을 순순히 따랐는데, 그들은 그렇게 하지 않은 것이다.	And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the Lord; but they did not so.
18	여호와께서 그들에게 재판관(사사)들을 세워 주실 때마다, 여호와께서 그 재판관(사사)과 함께하셨다. 그래서 그 재판관(사사)이 살아 있는 동안에는 원수들의 손에서 그들을 구해 내게 하셨다. 그들을 괴롭히는 사람들과 억누르는 사람들 때문에 그들이 신음 소리를 내자, 여호와께서 가슴 아파하셨던 것이다.	And when the Lord raised them up judges, then the Lord was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented the Lord because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.
19	그런데 그 재판관(사사)이 죽으면, 그들은 다시 조상들보다 더 썩어 빠져서 다른 신들을 뒤따라가서 섬기고 거기에 엎드려 절했다. 못된 행동과 고집부리는 생활을 그만두지 않았다.	And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.
20	여호와께서 이스라엘을 향한 노여움으로 불타오르셔서 말씀하셨다. “이 민족이 나의 언약, 내가 그들의 조상들에게 명령한 그 언약을 어겼다. 그리고 내 목소리를 듣지 않았다.	And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;
21	그래서 나 또한, 여호수아가 죽을 때 남겨 둔 여러 민족 가운데서 한 사람도 더는 그들 앞에서 몰아내 주지 않을 것이다.	I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:
22	그들 이스라엘을 시험해 보려는 것이다. 그들의 조상들이 조심해 왔던 것처럼 그들도 조심하여 여호와의 길을 걸어가는지 그렇지 않은지 시험해 보려는 것이다.”	That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the Lord to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.
23	여호와께서 이 여러 다른 민족을 빨리 몰아내 주지 않으셨다. 그들을 여호수아의 손에 넘겨주지 않으셨던 것이다.	Therefore the Lord left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.
