1	후새의 조언이 아히도벨의 조언을 이기다 아히도벨이 압살롬에게 말했다. “내가 12,000명을 골라 뽑게 해 주세요. 일어나 오늘 밤에 다윗을 뒤쫓아 가려고요.	Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:
2	내가 그에게로 가면 그는 지쳐서 두 손에 맥이 풀려 있겠지요. 내가 그를 겁주면 그와 함께 있는 온 백성이 달아날 것입니다. 그럼 나는 다윗 임금만 쳐 죽일 거예요.	And I will come upon him while he is weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only:
3	내가 온 백성을 임금님께 돌려드리겠습니다. 예전에 모든 사람이 임금님께서 찾고 있는 그 사람에게 돌아갔던 것처럼요. 온 백성은 아무 일 없을 것입니다.”	And I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: so all the people shall be in peace.
4	압살롬이 보니 그 말이 맞는 말이었다. 이스라엘 원로들 모두가 보기에도 그랬다.	And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.
5	압살롬이 말했다. “아렉 사람 후새도 불러 주시오. 그 사람은 또 무슨 말을 할지 들어 봅시다.”	Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.
6	후새가 압살롬에게 왔다. 그러자 압살롬이 그에게 말했다. “아히도벨이 이런 말을 했소. 그가 하라는 대로 우리가 해야 하겠소? 아니라면 그대가 말씀해 보시오.”	And when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do after his saying? if not; speak thou.
7	후새가 압살롬에게 말했다. “아히도벨이 이번에 해 드린 조언은 좋지 않습니다.”	And Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given is not good at this time.
8	후새가 이어서 말했다. “임금님의 아버지와 그가 거느린 사람들을 임금님은 잘 아십니다. 그들은 전쟁에 유능한 사람들입니다. 들에 사는, 새끼를 빼앗긴 곰처럼 성이 나 있습니다. 게다가 임금님의 아버지는 전쟁 전문가입니다. 백성과 함께 밤을 보내지는 않을 거예요.	For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.
9	저기, 지금 그는 어느 동굴 아니면 다른 어느 곳엔가 숨어 있을 것입니다. 임금님의 병사들 가운데 누군가가 처음에 쓰러지면 그 소식을 듣는 사람이 듣고서 말할 것입니다. ‘압살롬을 따르는 병사들이 패배를 맛보았다.’ 하고요.	Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some other place: and it will come to pass, when some of them be overthrown at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.
10	아무리 사자의 마음과 같은 마음을 가진 힘센 사람이라도 틀림없이 무너져 내릴 것입니다. 온 이스라엘이 알고 있으니까요. 임금님의 아버지가 용사라는 사실을요. 그와 함께 있는 사람들이 용맹스러운 사람들이라는 사실도요.	And he also that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt: for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they which be with him are valiant men.
11	그러므로 나는 이렇게 조언을 해 드립니다. 온 이스라엘이 임금님한테로 반드시 모이게 하십시오. 단부터 브엘세바까지요. 바닷가의 모래처럼 많이요. 그러고서 임금님께서 몸소 앞장서서 싸우러 가시는 것입니다.	Therefore I counsel that all Israel be generally gathered unto thee, from Dan even to Beer–sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.
12	우리는 그가 있는 그 어느 곳으로든 갈 것입니다. 이슬이 땅에 내리듯 우리가 그를 덮치는 것입니다. 그나 그와 함께 있는 모든 사람 가운데 하나도 살아남지 못할 것입니다.	So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that are with him there shall not be left so much as one.
13	그가 어느 도시로 숨어들어 간다 합시다. 그러면 온 이스라엘이 그 도시로 밧줄을 가져갈 것입니다. 그 도시를 마른시내까지 끌고 갈 것입니다. 마침내 그곳에 작은 돌 하나도 남아 있지 않게 할 것입니다.”	Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.
14	압살롬과 온 이스라엘 사람이 말했다. “아렉 사람 후새의 조언이 아히도벨의 조언보다 낫다.” 여호와께서 아히도벨의 좋은 조언을 쓸모없게 만들도록 정하셨기 때문이다. 여호와께서 압살롬에게 불행이 닥치게 하신 것이었다.	And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the Lord had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the Lord might bring evil upon Absalom.
15	후새가 다윗에게 사람을 보내 알리다 후새가 사독과 아비아달 제사장에게 말했다. “이렇게 저렇게 아히도벨이 압살롬과 이스라엘 원로들에게 조언을 해 주었습니다. 그리고 이렇게 저렇게 나는 조언을 해 주었습니다.	Then said Hushai unto Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counselled.
16	이제 서둘러 사람을 보내 다윗에게 이렇게 알려 드리세요. ‘오늘 밤에 광야 나루터에서 묵지 마세요. 꼭 건너가셔야 합니다. 임금님과 임금님께서 거느린 온 백성이 잡혀 죽지 않도록요.’”	Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that are with him.
17	한편 요나단과 아히마아스는 엔로겔에 머물러 있었다. 여자종이 그들에게 가서 알려 주면 그들이 다윗 임금에게 가서 알려 주는 것이었다. 도시로 들어가다가 들키면 안 되기 때문이었다.	Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by En–rogel; for they might not be seen to come into the city: and a wench went and told them; and they went and told king David.
18	그런데 그들을 어느 젊은이가 보고 압살롬에게 알렸다. 그러자 그 두 사람은 재빨리 가서 바후림에 있는 어떤 사람의 집으로 들어갔다. 그 사람 집 뜰에 우물이 있어서 그들이 거기로 내려갔다.	Nevertheless a lad saw them, and told Absalom: but they went both of them away quickly, and came to a man’s house in Bahurim, which had a well in his court; whither they went down.
19	한 여자가 덮개를 가져다가 그 우물 위에 덮고 그 위에 곡식을 깔았다. 이렇게 한 것을 아무도 알 수 없었다.	And the woman took and spread a covering over the well’s mouth, and spread ground corn thereon; and the thing was not known.
20	압살롬의 신하들이 그 여자가 있는 집으로 와서 물었다. “아히마아스와 요나단이 어디 있습니까?” 여자가 그들에게 말했다. “저수지를 건너갔습니다.” 그들은 뒤졌지만 찾지 못하고 예루살렘으로 돌아갔다.	And when Absalom’s servants came to the woman to the house, they said, Where is Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They be gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.
21	그들이 돌아간 다음에 일이 일어났다. 두 사람은 우물에서 올라와 다윗 임금에게 가서 알렸다. 그들이 다윗에게 말했다. “일어나 어서 물을 건너가십시오. 아히도벨이 임금님 쪽 사람들을 두고 이렇게 조언을 해 드렸거든요.”	And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.
22	다윗은 같이 있던 온 백성과 함께 일어나 요르단강을 건넜다. 아침이 밝아 오기까지 요르단강을 건너지 못하고 남은 사람은 하나도 없었다.	Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan.
23	아히도벨은 자기 조언대로 실행되지 않았다는 사실을 깨달았다. 그러자 나귀에 안장을 얹고 떠났다. 자기 집으로, 자기가 살던 도시로 갔다. 자기 집안사람들에게 뒷일을 맡기고 목을 매어 죽었다. 사람들이 그의 아버지의 무덤에서 장례를 치렀다.	And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.
24	다윗이 마하나임에 이르렀다. 압살롬은 요르단강을 건넜다. 온 이스라엘 사람이 그와 함께했다.	Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
25	압살롬은 요압 대신 아마사에게 군대를 거느리게 했다. 아마사는 이름이 이드라인 이스라엘 남자의 아들이었다. 이드라가 아내로 맞은 아비가일 곧 나하스의 딸은 요압의 어머니 스루야의 자매였다.	And Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab: which Amasa was a man’s son, whose name was Ithra an Israelite, that went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab’s mother.
26	이스라엘과 압살롬은 길르앗 땅에 진을 쳤다.	So Israel and Absalom pitched in the land of Gilead.
27	다윗이 마하나임으로 왔을 때 일어난 일이다. 나하스의 아들 소비가 암몬 사람들의 랍바에서 온 것이었다. 그리고 암미엘의 아들 마길이 로드발에서 왔다. 또한 길르앗 사람 바르실래가 로글림에서 왔다.	And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lo–debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,
28	그들이 눕자리와 대야와 진흙그릇과 밀과 보리와 밀가루와 볶은 곡식과 누에콩과 붉은콩과 볶은 곡식을 가져왔다.	Brought beds, and basons, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched corn, and beans, and lentiles, and parched pulse,
29	그들은 꿀과 요구르트와 양고기와 암소 치즈도 가져와서 다윗과 그가 거느린 백성이 먹게 했다. 그들은 이렇게 생각했기 때문이다. ‘백성이 광야에서 굶주리고 지치고 목마를 거야.’	And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, The people is hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.
