1	룻이 보아스 곁에서 하룻밤을 지내고 오다 룻에게 그의 시어머니 나오미가 말했다. “얘야, 내가 너를 위해 좋은 보금자리를 찾아 줘야 하지 않겠느냐?	Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?
2	그런데 마침 보아스가 우리 친척 아니냐? 그분이 부리는 젊은 여자들과 함께 네가 있었지. 자, 오늘 밤에 그분이 타작마당에서 보리를 까부르신다는구나.	And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor.
3	네 몸을 씻고 기름을 바르고, 겉옷을 걸치고 타작마당으로 내려가 보려무나. 그분이 너를 알아차리지 못하게 해라, 그분이 먹고 마시기를 끝낼 때까지는.	Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.
4	그분이 누우실 때, 어디에 누우시는지를 알아 두려무나. 그러고는 가서 그의 발치를 젖히고 누우려무나. 그러면 그분이 네가 어떻게 해야 할지 너에게 이야기해 줄 것이다.”	And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.
5	룻이 나오미에게 대답했다. “말씀하신 그대로 하겠어요.”	And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do.
6	룻은 타작마당으로 내려가서, 시어머니가 하라고 한 그대로 했다.	And she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her.
7	보아스는 먹고 마신 다음에 기분이 좋아지자, 곡식 더미 가장자리로 가서 누웠다. 룻은 몰래 가서 그의 발치를 젖히고 누웠다.	And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.
8	한밤중에 그 남자가 놀라서 주위를 더듬어 보았다. 이런, 어떤 여자가 자기 발치에 누워 있지 않은가!	And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.
9	그래서 “그대는 누구요?” 하고 물었다. 여자가 대답했다. “저는 룻입니다. 어르신의 종이지요. 어르신의 옷자락을 제 위로 펼쳐 주세요. 어르신은 저희 집안을 살려 낼 사람 가운데 한 분이시니까요.”	And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.
10	보아스가 말했다. “그대가 여호와께 복받기 바랍니다, 룻! 그대가 지금 베푼 사랑이 이제까지 베푼 사랑보다 더 아름답군요. 젊은 남자들을 뒤따라가지 않았으니까요. 그들이 가난하든 부유하든 상관없이요.	And he said, Blessed be thou of the Lord, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.
11	이제는, 룻, 두려워하지 마세요. 나더러 해 달라는 대로 다 해 줄게요. 그대가 훌륭한 여자인 줄은 우리 베들레헴 백성이라면 누구나 알지요.	And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.
12	그리고 마침 내가 그대의 남편 집안을 살려 낼 사람들 가운데 하나인 것도 사실입니다. 그런데 나보다 더 가까운 친척이 한 사람 있어요.	And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.
13	오늘 밤은 여기서 지내세요. 내일 아침에 알아봅시다. 그 사람이 그대의 남편 집안을 살려 내겠다고 하면, 그가 그렇게 하는 것이 좋겠어요. 그가 그대의 남편 집안을 살려 내려 하지 않으면, 그대의 남편 집안을 내가 살려 낼게요. 여호와께서 살아 계심을 걸고 맹세하지요. 아침까지 누워 있으세요.”	Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman’s part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the Lord liveth: lie down until the morning.
14	룻은 그의 발치에 아침까지 누워 있다가, 사람들이 서로 알아볼 수 있기 전에 일어났다. 보아스가 말했다. “여자가 타작마당에 들어온 줄 아는 사람이 없어야 해요.”	And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.
15	또 말했다. “그대가 두르고 있는 숄을 이리 가져와서 펼쳐 잡으세요.” 룻이 숄을 펼쳐 잡자, 보아스는 보리를 여섯 번 됫박으로 되어 그 위에다가 부어 주었다. 그러고는 베들레헴으로 들어갔다.	Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.
16	룻이 시어머니에게 오자 그가 물었다. “어떻게 되었느냐, 얘야?” 룻은 그 남자가 자기에게 해 준 일을 시어머니에게 다 이야기해 주었다.	And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.
17	룻이 말했다. “이 보리는 그 사람이 됫박으로 여섯 번 되어 저에게 준 거예요. 제가 어머니한테 빈손으로 가면 안 된다고 말하면서요.”	And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said to me, Go not empty unto thy mother in law.
18	나오미가 말했다. “앉아서 기다려 보자, 얘야! 일이 어떻게 돌아가는지 알 수 있을 때까지. 그 사람이 가만있지 않고 오늘이라도 일을 매듭지을 테니까.”	Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.
