1	룻이 보아스의 밭에서 이삭을 줍다 나오미에게는 남편 쪽으로 친척이 한 사람 있었다. 힘 있고 돈 많은 사람이었다. 엘리멜렉 집안의 사람인데, 이름은 보아스였다.	And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
2	모압 여자 룻이 나오미에게 말했다. “들로 나가 이삭을 주워 오겠어요. 저를 좋게 봐 주는 사람이 있으면 뒤쫓아 다니며 줍겠어요.” 나오미가 말했다. “가 보려무나, 얘야.”	And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.
3	룻이 갔다. 가서 들에서 곡식 거두는 일꾼들을 뒤쫓아 다니며 이삭을 주웠다. 어쩌다가 보아스 몫의 밭에 들어가게 되었다. 그는 엘리멜렉 집안의 사람이었다.	And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.
4	그런데 아, 보아스가 베들레헴에서 오고 있는 것이 아닌가! 일꾼들에게 보아스가 인사말을 건넸다. “여호와께서 여러분과 함께하시기 바랍니다.” 일꾼들이 인사말을 받아 말했다. “어르신께 여호와께서 복을 내려 주시기 바랍니다.”	And, behold, Boaz came from Beth–lehem, and said unto the reapers, The Lord be with you. And they answered him, The Lord bless thee.
5	보아스는 일꾼들 위에 세워 둔 그의 하인에게 물었다. “이 젊은 여자는 어느 집안의 사람인가?”	Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this?
6	일꾼들 위에 세워 둔 그 하인이 대답했다. “모압 여자입니다. 나오미가 돌아올 때 모압 지역에서 함께 왔답니다.	And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab:
7	그 여자가 ‘곡식 단 사이에서 일꾼들을 뒤쫓아 다니며 이삭을 줍게 해 주세요.’ 하고 말하더군요. 그러더니 와서 그때 아침부터 지금까지 서서 저러고 있습니다. 원두막에 앉아 쉰 적이 거의 없습니다.”	And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house.
8	보아스가 룻에게 말했다. “내 말 들리나요, 룻? 이삭을 주우러 다른 밭에 가지 마세요. 여기를 지나가 버리지도 말고요. 지금처럼 우리 집 여자들과 붙어 다니세요.	Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens:
9	그들이 곡식 거두는 밭이 눈에 띄는 대로 그 여자들을 뒤쫓아 다니세요. 그대를 건드리지 말라고 내가 젊은이들에게 단단히 일러두지 않았겠소? 목마르면 물동이 있는 데로 가서 젊은이들이 길어 오는 물을 마시도록 하세요.”	Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.
10	룻은 땅에 엎드려 절했다. 그러고는 보아스에게 말했다. “무슨 이유로 제가 어르신 눈에 들어 저를 따뜻이 돌보아 주시나요? 저는 다른 나라 여자인데요.”	Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?
11	보아스가 룻에게 대답했다. “그대 소식을 똑똑히 들었어요. 남편이 죽고 나서 시어머니를 모시느라 한 모든 일을요. 그대는 아버지와 어머니와 고향을 버리고, 이전에는 알지 못하던 백성에게로 왔다지요.	And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.
12	그대가 한 일에 대해 여호와께서 갚아 주시기 바랍니다. 그대의 품삯을 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님께 제대로 받기 바랍니다. 그대가 와서 그분의 날개 아래로 피했으니까요.”	The Lord recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.
13	룻이 말했다. “제가 어르신 눈에 들었군요, 어르신! 저를 위로해 주시고 어르신의 종인 저에게 마음 따뜻하게 말씀해 주시다니요. 저는 어르신의 종 하나와도 같지 못한데요.”	Then she said, Let me find favour in thy sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine handmaid, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens.
14	끼니때가 되자 보아스가 룻에게 말했다. “이리로 가까이 와서 이 빵 좀 먹어 봐요. 한 조각 떼어 식초에 찍어서요.” 일꾼들 곁에 룻이 앉자, 보아스가 볶은 곡식을 집어 룻에게 건네주었다. 룻이 실컷 먹고도 남았다.	And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left.
15	룻이 이삭을 주우려고 일어나자, 보아스는 자기가 부리는 일꾼들에게 명령했다. “곡식 단 사이에서 그 여자가 이삭을 줍게 해 주게. 그에게 못된 짓 하지 말고.	And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:
16	또 그 여자를 생각해서, 곡식 다발에서도 반드시 얼마를 뽑아서 내버려두게. 그 여자가 줍게 말이야. 그 여자를 야단치지는 말고.”	And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.
17	룻은 들판에서 저녁까지 이삭을 주웠다. 주운 이삭을 털어 냈더니 보리가 대략 22리터쯤 되었다.	So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley.
18	룻은 그것을 들고 베들레헴으로 돌아와서는, 자기가 주워 온 것을 시어머니에게 보여 드렸다. 또 자기가 실컷 먹고 남겨 가져온 음식을 꺼내서 시어머니에게 드렸다.	And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved after she was sufficed.
19	그러자 시어머니가 룻에게 물었다. “오늘 이삭을 주운 곳이 어디냐? 일한 곳이 어디냐? 너를 따뜻하게 보살펴 준 사람이 복받기 바란다.” 룻은 자기에게 일하게 해 준 사람 이야기를 시어머니에게 해 드렸다. “오늘 저에게 일하게 해 준 사람의 이름은 보아스랍니다.”	And her mother in law said unto her, Where hast thou gleaned to day? and where wroughtest thou? blessed be he that did take knowledge of thee. And she shewed her mother in law with whom she had wrought, and said, The man’s name with whom I wrought to day is Boaz.
20	나오미가 며느리에게 말했다. “그분이 여호와께 복받기 바란다. 그분은 산 사람이든 죽은 사람이든 모르는 체하지 않고 잘해 주시는구나.” 나오미가 룻에게 또 말했다. “그 사람은 우리랑 가깝단다. 우리 집안을 살려 낼 사람 가운데 한 분이시지.”	And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the Lord, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.
21	모압 여자 룻이 말했다. “그분은 저에게 ‘우리 집 젊은이들과 가까이 붙어 다니세요. 우리 밭에서 곡식 거두어들이는 일이 다 끝날 때까지요.’ 하고도 말씀하셨어요.”	And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.
22	나오미가 며느리 룻에게 말했다. “그게 좋겠다, 얘야. 그분이 부리는 젊은 여자들과 함께 움직이려무나. 다른 밭에서는 사람들이 너한테 성가시게 굴 수도 있을 테니까.”	And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field.
23	그래서 룻은 보아스가 부리는 젊은 여자들과 붙어 다니며 이삭을 주웠다. 보리 거두어들이는 일과 밀 거두어들이는 일이 끝날 때까지 그렇게 하면서 시어머니와 함께 살았다.	So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.
