절	새한글성경 (2024)	King James Version
1	바울이 이스라엘을 두고 몹시 괴로워하다 그리스도 안에서 나는 참말을 하지, 거짓말하지 않습니다. 내 양심도 성령님 안에서 나와 더불어 증언합니다.	I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,
2	내 슬픔이 크고, 내 마음속에 진통이 끊이지 않습니다.	That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.
3	차라리 나 자신이 저주를 받아 그리스도께로부터 끊어지면 좋겠습니다. 내 형제자매들, 곧 혈통상의 내 겨레를 위해서라면요.	For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
4	그들은 이스라엘 사람입니다. 하나님이 그들을 아들딸로 삼으시고 그들에게 영광을 보이시고 여러 언약을 맺어 주셨습니다. 율법을 주시고 예배하는 법을 알려 주시고 여러 약속을 해 주셨습니다.	Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
5	그들은 위대한 조상들의 후손이고, 혈통으로 볼 때 그리스도께서도 그들한테서 나셨습니다. 모든 것 위에 계시는 하나님이 영원토록 찬양받으시기를! 아멘!	Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
6	선택하시는 분은 하나님이시다 그렇지만 하나님의 말씀이 소용없게 되었다는 그런 말은 아닙니다. 이스라엘한테서 난 이 사람들이 모두 이스라엘은 아니니까요.	Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:
7	또한 아브라함의 후손이 모두 아브라함의 자녀인 것도 아니기 때문입니다. 오히려 하나님은 “이삭의 후손이어야 너의 후손이라 불릴 것이다.” 하고 말씀하셨습니다.	Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
8	다시 말해서, 육신에 의한 자녀들, 이들이 하나님의 자녀들이 아니라, 약속에 의한 자녀들이 후손으로 여겨집니다.	That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
9	약속의 말씀은 이렇게 되어 있으니까요. “내년 이맘때 내가 다시 오겠다. 그때 사라에게 아들이 있을 것이다.”	For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.
10	그뿐만 아니라 리브가가 한 사람, 곧 우리 조상 이삭과의 사이에서 쌍둥이를 가졌을 때도 마찬가지입니다.	And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac;
11	쌍둥이가 아직 태어나지도 않았고, 무슨 선한 일이나 못된 짓을 하지도 않았을 때였습니다. 그때 선택에 기초하여 하나님이 미리 정하신 계획이 유지되도록 하셨습니다.	(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)
12	아이들이 한 일이 아니라, 부르시는 분에게 달린 것이었습니다. 그래서 리브가에게 말씀하셨습니다. “큰아이가 작은아이를 섬길 것이다.”	It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.
13	성경에 이렇게 적혀 있는 대로입니다. “야곱은 내가 사랑했지만, 에서는 내가 미워했다.”	As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
14	하나님께 달려 있다 그렇다면 우리가 무슨 말을 해야 하겠습니까? 하나님이 불공정하시다는 말입니까? 절대로 그럴 수 없습니다.	What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
15	하나님이 모세에게 이렇게 말씀하시니까요. “나는 내가 불쌍히 여기고 싶은 사람을 불쌍히 여기고, 내가 가엾게 여기고 싶은 사람을 가엾게 여길 것이다.”	For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
16	그러므로 선택받는 것은 사람의 바람이나 노력이 아니라 은혜를 베푸시는 하나님께 달려 있습니다.	So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
17	성경이 파라오에게 이렇게 말하잖아요. “내가 너를 일으켜 세운 것은 바로 이 일을 위해서다. 곧 너를 통해 내 능력을 드러내 보여 주어, 내 이름이 온 땅에 널리 알려지게 하려는 것이다.”	For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.
18	그러므로 하나님은 불쌍히 여기고 싶은 사람을 불쌍히 여기시고, 마음이 굳어지게 하고 싶은 사람을 마음이 굳어지게 하십니다.	Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.
19	하나님의 분노와 불쌍히 여기심 그러면 그대는 나에게 따질 것입니다. “그렇다면 왜 하나님은 아직도 잘못을 나무라시는 겁니까? 그분 뜻에 누가 맞설 수 있었다는 말입니까?”	Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?
20	아, 사람아! 도대체 그대는 누구입니까? 하나님께 말대꾸하며 대들다니요! 만들어진 것이 만든 사람에게 “왜 나를 이렇게 만드셨나요?” 하고 따지겠습니까?	Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?
21	아니면 진흙을 빚어 그릇을 만드는 사람에게 권한이 없단 말입니까? 같은 진흙덩이에서 어떤 것은 값지게 쓸 그릇으로, 어떤 것은 하찮게 쓸 그릇으로 만들 권한이요!	Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
22	어떻단 말입니까? 하나님이 노여움을 드러내어 그 능력을 알리기를 바라시면서도, 노여움을 사서 멸망하게 되어 있는 그릇들을 많이 참고 기다려 주셨다면요.	What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
23	어떻단 말입니까? 영광을 누리도록 미리 준비해 두신 그릇들, 곧 불쌍히 여기심을 받을 그릇들에게는 하나님의 영광의 풍부함을 알리시려고 하셨다면요.	And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,
24	하나님이 불쌍히 여기실 그릇들로 우리도 부르셨습니다. 유대아 사람들 가운데서뿐만 아니라 다른 민족들 가운데서도요.	Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
25	호세아서에서도 말씀하시는 대로입니다. “내가 내 백성 아닌 사람을 내 백성이라 부르고, 사랑받지 못하는 여자를 사랑받는 여자라 부를 것이다.	As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.
26	또한 그들에게 ‘너희들은 내 백성이 아니다.’ 하고 말씀하시던 곳, 거기서 그들이 살아 계신 하나님의 아들딸이라 불릴 것이다.”	And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.
27	그렇지만 이사야가 이스라엘을 두고 이렇게 외쳤습니다. “이스라엘 아들딸의 수가 바닷모래와 같이 많더라도 남은 사람만이 구원받을 것이다.	Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:
28	주님이 말씀하신 것을 완전하고도 빠르게 땅 위에 실행하실 것이기 때문이다.”	For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.
29	또 이사야가 이미 말한 대로입니다. “전능하신 주님이 우리에게 후손을 남겨 두지 않으셨더라면, 우리가 소돔처럼 되고 말았을 것이다. 고모라같이 되고 말았을 것이다.”	And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.
30	다른 민족들과 이스라엘이 다른 길을 가다 그렇다면 우리가 무슨 말을 해야 하겠습니까? 의를 뒤쫓아 구하지 않은 민족들이 의를 얻었습니다. 믿음에 기초하여 얻는 의를 말입니다.	What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
31	그런데 이스라엘은 의로 이끄는 율법을 뒤쫓아 구했지만 율법에 다다르지 못했습니다.	But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
32	무엇 때문입니까? 믿음에 기초하지 않고, 행위에 기초하여 그것을 뒤쫓아 구했기 때문입니다. 걸림돌에 걸린 것입니다.	Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
33	성경에 적혀 있는 대로입니다. “보라, 내가 시온에 걸림돌, 곧 걸려 넘어지게 하는 바위를 둔다. 그러나 그를 믿는 사람은 창피를 당하지 않을 것이다.”	As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
