1	율법에서 벗어나 하나님을 섬기는 우리 여러분은 이것을 모르십니까, 형제자매 여러분? 나는 율법을 알고 계시는 분들에게 말씀드립니다. 율법은 사람이 살아 있는 동안에만 그 사람의 주인이 되지 않나요?	Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
2	결혼한 여자는 남편이 살아 있는 동안은 그 남편에게 율법으로 매여 있습니다. 그렇지만 그 남편이 죽으면, 그를 남편에게 매어 둔 율법에서 풀려납니다.	For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
3	따라서 남편이 살아 있는 동안에 다른 남자와 관계를 맺으면 바람피운 여자라고 불릴 것입니다. 그렇지만 그 남편이 죽으면 그 여자는 율법에서 벗어나 자유롭습니다. 그래서 다른 남자와 관계를 맺는다고 해도 바람피운 여자가 되는 것은 아닙니다.	So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
4	그러므로, 나의 형제자매 여러분, 여러분 자신들도 그리스도의 몸을 통해서 율법에 대해 죽임을 당했습니다. 그리고 다른 분, 곧 죽은 사람들 가운데서 일으킴받아 살아나신 분께 속하게 되었습니다. 그리하여 우리가 하나님을 위해 열매를 맺게 되었습니다.	Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
5	우리가 육신 안에 있을 때는, 율법을 통해 일어나는 죄의 욕망이 우리의 몸 각 부분에서 활동하고 있었습니다. 그리하여 우리가 죽음에 이르는 열매를 맺게 했습니다.	For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
6	그러나 이제 우리는 율법에서 풀려났습니다. 우리가 얽매였던 율법에 대해 죽음으로써 말입니다. 그리하여 우리는 종노릇하되 성령님의 새로운 방식으로 하지, 글자로 된 율법의 낡은 방식으로 하지 않습니다.	But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
7	죄를 깨닫게 하는 율법 그렇다면 우리가 무엇이라 말할까요? 율법이 죄입니까? 절대로 그럴 수 없습니다. 오히려 율법을 통하지 않고서는 내가 죄를 알지 못했을 것입니다. 율법이 “넘보지 마라.” 하고 말해 주지 않았다면, 넘보는 것을 알지 못했을 것입니다.	What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
8	그러나 죄가 계명을 통해 기회를 잡아 내 안에서 온갖 넘보는 마음을 불러일으켰습니다. 율법이 없으면 죄는 죽은 상태이기 때문입니다.	But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.
9	분명히 한때 율법이 없을 때는 내가 살아 있었습니다. 그런데 계명이 오자 죄가 살아났습니다.	For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
10	도리어 나는 죽고 말았습니다. 생명으로 이끌 바로 이 계명이 나에게는 죽음으로 이끄는 것으로 드러났습니다.	And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.
11	죄가 계명을 통해 기회를 잡아 나를 완전히 속였고, 계명을 통해 나를 죽였습니다.	For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.
12	따라서 율법은 거룩합니다. 그리고 계명은 거룩하고 정당하며 훌륭합니다.	Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
13	그렇다면 그 훌륭한 것이 나에게는 죽음의 원인이 되었습니까? 절대로 그럴 수 없습니다. 오히려 죄가 죄로 밝혀지도록, 죄가 훌륭한 것을 통하여 나에게 죽음을 불러일으켰습니다. 그리하여 계명을 통해 죄가 범죄의 뿌리라는 것이 더할 나위 없이 분명해졌습니다.	Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.
14	좋은 일을 하고 싶으나 하지 못하는 비참함 우리가 알다시피, 율법은 영적인 것입니다. 그런데 나는 육신적이어서 죄 아래로 팔린 상태입니다.	For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15	나도 내가 무슨 일을 하고 있는지 알지 못합니다. 내가 원하는 일, 바로 그것은 실천하지 않고, 오히려 내가 역겨워하는 일, 바로 그것을 행하고 있으니 말입니다.	For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
16	내가 원하지 않는 일 바로 그것을 행하고 있다면, 나는 율법이 선하다는 데 동의하는 셈입니다.	If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
17	그렇다면 이제 그 짓을 하는 것은 더는 나 자신이 아니라 내 안에 자리 잡고 사는 죄입니다.	Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
18	나는 알고 있습니다. 내 안에, 곧 내 육신 안에 선한 것이 자리 잡고 살지 않는다는 것을요. 좋은 일을 하고 싶은 마음은 간절하지만, 그것을 해내지는 못하고 있으니까요.	For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
19	하고 싶은 일, 곧 선은 행하지 않고, 오히려 하고 싶지 않은 이 일, 곧 악은 저지릅니다.	For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20	내가 나 자신도 하고 싶지 않은 이 일을 행한다면, 그 짓을 하는 것은 더는 나 자신이 아니라 내 안에 자리 잡고 사는 죄입니다.	Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
21	그런즉 나는 법칙을 발견합니다. 좋은 일을 하고 싶어 하는 나, 그런 나에게 악한 것이 바로 곁에 있다는 것입니다.	I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22	나는 속사람으로는 하나님의 법을 기뻐합니다.	For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23	그런데 내가 보니, 내 몸의 각 부분에는 다른 법이 있어서 내 마음의 법과 맞서 싸우고 있습니다. 그리고 내 몸의 각 부분에 있는 죄의 법으로 나를 포로로 삼고 있습니다.	But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24	나야말로 얼마나 비참한 사람입니까! 누가 나를 이 죽음의 몸에서 건져 내 주겠습니까?	O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25	하나님께 감사를 드립니다! 하나님이 건져 내 주십니다, 예수 그리스도 우리 주님을 통해서요! 그러므로 결국 나 자신은 마음으로는 하나님의 법에, 육신으로는 죄의 법에 종노릇하고 있습니다.	I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
