1	사자 굴에 던져진 다니엘 다리우스는 자기 맘에 드는 대로 왕국 위에 지방 장관 120명을 세웠다. 그들을 온 나라에 있게 했다.	It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;
2	또 그들 위에 총리 세 명을 두었다. 다니엘이 그 가운데 하나였다. 이 지방 장관들이 총리들에게 보고를 올려서 임금이 손해를 보지 않도록 했다.	And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.
3	그런데 이 다니엘은 다른 총리들과 지방 장관들보다 뛰어났다. 예사롭지 않은 영이 그의 안에 있었기 때문이다. 그래서 임금은 그를 온 왕국 위에 둘 작정이었다.	Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
4	그러자 총리들과 지방 장관들이 왕국과 관련하여 다니엘을 고발할 구실을 찾아내고자 애를 썼다. 그러나 그들은 어떤 구실이나 부패도 찾아낼 수 없었다. 그가 믿음직한 사람이었기 때문이다. 어떤 게으름이나 부패도 그에게서는 드러나지 않았다.	Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
5	그때 이 사람들이 말했다. “이 사람 다니엘을 고발할 어떤 구실도 우리는 찾아내지 못할 것이오. 다만 그의 하나님의 가르침에 관련해서라면, 그에게 불리한 것을 찾아낼 수 있을 것이오.”	Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.
6	그래서 이 총리들과 지방 장관들이 임금에게로 시끄럽게 몰려갔다. 그러고는 임금에게 이렇게 말했다. “다리우스 임금님, 오래오래 사시기 바랍니다!	Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.
7	왕국의 모든 총리들과 참모들과 지방 장관들과 국가 자문관들과 총독들이 서로 의견을 주고받았습니다. 그래서 임금님의 법령을 널리 알리고 금지령을 시행하기로 했습니다. 곧 30일 동안 임금님 아닌 다른 어떤 신이나 사람에게 계속 기도하는 사람이 있으면, 그가 누구든지 그를 사자 굴에 던져 넣기로 한 것입니다.	All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
8	이제 임금님은 금지령을 널리 알리시고 문서로 만들어 두시기 바랍니다. 그래서 바꾸지 못하게 해 주시기 바랍니다, 폐지할 수 없는 메디아와 페르시아의 법에 걸맞게요.”	Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
9	이 때문에 다리우스 임금은 문서 곧 금지령에 서명했다.	Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.
10	다니엘은 다리우스가 그 문서에 서명했다는 것을 알았다. 그런데도 자신의 집으로 가서 위층 방의 창문들을 열고, 예루살렘을 향했다. 그러고는 하루에 세 번 무릎을 꿇고서 자신의 하나님 앞에서 감사 찬양의 기도를 드렸다. 그전부터 이렇게 해 왔기 때문이다.	Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
11	그러자 그 사람들이 시끄럽게 몰려갔다. 다니엘이 보였는데, 다니엘은 그의 하나님 앞에서 기도하면서 도움을 애타게 요청하고 있었다.	Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.
12	그래서 그들이 나아가서 임금 앞에서 임금의 금지령을 두고 말했다. “임금님이 금지령을 문서로 만들어 두지 않으셨습니까? 임금님, 30일 동안 임금님이 아닌 다른 어떤 신이나 사람에게 계속 기도하는 사람이 있으면, 그가 누구든지 그를 사자 굴에 던져 넣기로 하셨습니다.” 임금이 대답하여 말했다. “그 일은 확정되었소. 폐지할 수 없는 메디아와 페르시아의 법에 따른 것이오.”	Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king’s decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
13	그러자 그들이 임금 앞에서 대답하여 말했다. “사로잡혀 온 유다 사람들 가운데 하나인 다니엘이 임금님께 마음을 쓰지 않습니다, 임금님! 임금님이 문서로 만들어 두신 금지령에도요. 그래서 하루에 세 번 계속 기도합니다.”	Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
14	임금은 그 말을 듣고서 무척 슬퍼했다. 그는 다니엘에게 마음을 두고서 그를 구해 내려고 했다. 해 질 때까지 그를 구해 내려고 애썼다.	Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.
15	그때 그 사람들이 임금에게로 시끄럽게 몰려가서 임금에게 말했다. “아시기 바랍니다, 임금님, 메디아와 페르시아의 법에 따르면 임금님이 널리 알리신 어떤 금지령과 법령도 바꿀 수 없습니다.”	Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.
16	그래서 임금이 명령했다. 사람들이 다니엘을 데려와 사자 굴에 던져 넣었다. 임금이 다니엘에게 말했다. “그대가 계속해서 섬기는 그대의 하나님이 그대를 구해 주시기를 바라오.”	Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
17	사람들이 돌 하나를 가져와서 굴로 내려가는 구멍 위에 두었다. 임금은 자신의 도장반지와 권력자들의 도장반지로 거기에 도장을 찍고 그 구멍을 막았다. 이로써 다니엘에 관해서 아무것도 바꿀 수 없도록 했다.	And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
18	그러고 나서 임금은 자신의 궁전으로 갔다. 밤새 아무것도 먹지 않고, 즐길 거리를 자기 앞에 들이지도 않았다. 잠도 그에게서 달아나 버렸다.	Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.
19	그러고서 임금은 새벽이 되고 날이 밝자마자 일어나서, 서둘러 사자 굴로 갔다.	Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.
20	임금은 굴에 가까이 이르자 구슬픈 목소리로 다니엘에게 소리쳤다. 임금이 다니엘에게 말했다. “살아 계신 하나님의 종 다니엘, 그대가 계속해서 섬기는 그대의 하나님이 그대를 사자들로부터 구해 내실 수 있었소?”	And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
21	그때 다니엘이 임금에게 대답했다. “임금님, 오래오래 사시기 바랍니다!	Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.
22	나의 하나님이 자신의 천사를 보내셨습니다. 그 천사가 사자들의 입을 막아, 사자들이 저를 해치지 못했습니다. 하나님 앞에서 저의 무죄가 드러났기 때문입니다. 임금님, 또한 임금님 앞에서 임금님을 해치는 행동을 제가 한 적이 없기 때문입니다.”	My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
23	그러자 임금은 다니엘의 말을 듣고 무척 기뻐서, 다니엘을 굴에서 끌어 올리라고 명령했다. 사람들이 다니엘을 굴에서 끌어 올렸는데, 어떤 상처도 그에게서 찾아볼 수 없었다. 다니엘이 그의 하나님을 믿었기 때문이다.	Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
24	임금이 명령했다. 다니엘을 헐뜯으며 고발한 사람들이 끌려왔다. 사람들이 그들을 자녀와 아내와 함께 사자 굴로 던져 넣었다. 그들이 굴 바닥에 닿기도 전에 사자들이 그들을 덮쳐서 그들의 뼈를 모두 부서뜨렸다.	And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
25	그러고 나서 다리우스 임금이 서로 다른 민족과 국가와 언어 공동체에 속한 모든 사람에게 다음의 글을 써 보냈다. 온 땅에 살고 있는 사람들에게 보낸 것이다. “그대들이 누리는 평화가 더하기 바랍니다.	Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.
26	내가 명령을 내립니다. 내 왕국의 통치 지역에서는 모두 떨며 두려워해야 합니다, 다니엘의 하나님 앞에서! 그 하나님은 살아 계신 하나님이시며 영원히 계시기 때문입니다. 하나님의 왕국은 멸망하지 않으며 하나님의 다스림은 끝이 없습니다.	I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.
27	하나님은 구해 내 주시는 분, 건져 내 주시는 분이십니다. 하늘과 땅에서 표징이 되는 놀라운 일을 하십니다. 다니엘을 사자들의 앞발에서부터 구해 내 주셨습니다.”	He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.
28	이 다니엘은 다리우스가 다스리는 동안 잘되었고, 페르시아 사람 키루스가 다스리는 동안에도 그랬다.	So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
