1 ഭൂമിയിൽ ഒക്കെയും ഒരേ ഭാഷയും ഒരേ വാക്കും ആയിരുന്നു. And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2 എന്നാൽ അവർ കിഴക്കോട്ടു യാത്ര ചെയ്തു, ശിനാർദേശത്തു ഒരു സമഭൂമി കണ്ടു അവിടെ കുടിയിരുന്നു. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3 അവർ തമ്മിൽ: വരുവിൻ, നാം ഇഷ്ടക അറുത്തു ചുടുക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവർ ഇഷ്ടക കല്ലായും പശമണ്ണു കുമ്മായമായും ഉപയോഗിച്ചു. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
4 വരുവിൻ; നാം ഭൂതലത്തിൽ ഒക്കെയും ചിതറിപ്പോകാതിരിപ്പാൻ ഒരു പട്ടണവും ആകാശത്തോളം എത്തുന്ന ഒരു ഗോപുരവും പണിക; നമുക്കു ഒരു പേരുമുണ്ടാക്കുക എന്നു അവർ പറഞ്ഞു. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5 മനുഷ്യർ പണിത പട്ടണവും ഗോപുരവും കാണേണ്ടതിന്നു യഹോവ ഇറങ്ങിവന്നു. And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6 അപ്പോൾ യഹോവ: ഇതാ, ജനം ഒന്നു, അവൎക്കെല്ലാവൎക്കും ഭാഷയും ഒന്നു; ഇതും അവർ ചെയ്തു തുടങ്ങുന്നു; അവർ ചെയ്‌വാൻ നിരൂപിക്കുന്നതൊന്നും അവൎക്കു അസാദ്ധ്യമാകയില്ല. And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
7 വരുവിൻ; നാം ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു, അവർ തമ്മിൽ ഭാഷ തിരിച്ചറിയാതിരിപ്പാൻ അവരുടെ ഭാഷ കലക്കിക്കളക എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
8 അങ്ങനെ യഹോവ അവരെ അവിടെനിന്നു ഭൂതലത്തിലെങ്ങും ചിന്നിച്ചു; അവർ പട്ടണം പണിയുന്നതു വിട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു. So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
9 സൎവ്വഭൂമിയിലെയും ഭാഷ യഹോവ അവിടെവെച്ചു കലക്കിക്കളകയാൽ അതിന്നു ബാബേൽ എന്നു പേരായി; യഹോവ അവരെ അവിടെനിന്നു ഭൂതലത്തിൽ എങ്ങും ചിന്നിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
10 ശേമിന്റെ വംശപാരമ്പൎയ്യമാവിതു: ശേമിന്നു നൂറു വയസ്സായപ്പോൾ അവൻ ജലപ്രളയത്തിന്നു പിമ്പു രണ്ടു സംവത്സരം കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം അൎപ്പക്ഷാദിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:
11 അൎപ്പക്ഷാദിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചശേഷം ശേം അഞ്ഞൂറു സംവത്സരം ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെയും പുത്രിമാരെയും ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
12 അൎപ്പക്ഷാദിന്നു മുപ്പത്തഞ്ചു വയസ്സായപ്പോൾ അവൻ ശാലഹിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:
13 ശാലഹിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചശേഷം അൎപ്പക്ഷാദ് നാനൂറ്റിമൂന്നു സംവത്സരം ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെയും പുത്രിമാരെയും ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
14 ശാലഹിന്നു മുപ്പതു വയസ്സായപ്പോൾ അവൻ ഏബെരിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:
15 ഏബെരിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചശേഷം ശാലഹ് നാനൂറ്റി മൂന്നു സംവത്സരം ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെയും പുത്രിമാരെയും ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
16 ഏബെരിന്നു മുപ്പത്തിനാലു വയസ്സായപ്പോൾ അവൻ പേലെഗിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:
17 പേലെഗിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചശേഷം ഏബെർ നാനൂറ്റിമുപ്പതു സംവത്സരം ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെയും പുത്രിമാരെയും ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.
18 പേലെഗിന്നു മുപ്പതു വയ്സായപ്പോൾ അവൻ രെയൂവിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:
19 രെയൂവിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചശേഷം പേലെഗ് ഇരൂനൂറ്റൊമ്പതു സംവത്സരം ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെയും പുത്രിമാരെയും ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.
20 രെയൂവിന്നു മുപ്പത്തിരണ്ടു വയസ്സായപ്പോൾ അവൻ ശെരൂഗിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:
21 ശെരൂഗിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചശേഷം രെയൂ ഇരുനൂറ്റേഴു സംവത്സരം ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെയും പുത്രിമാരെയും ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.
22 ശെരൂഗിന്നു മുപ്പതു വയസ്സായപ്പോൾ അവൻ നാഹോരിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:
23 നാഹോരിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചശേഷം ശെരൂഗ് ഇരുനൂറു സംവത്സരം ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെയും പുത്രിമാരെയും ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
24 നാഹോരിന്നു ഇരുപത്തൊമ്പതു വയസ്സായപ്പോൾ അവൻ തേരഹിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:
25 തേരഹിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചശേഷം നാഹോർ നൂറ്റി പത്തൊമ്പതു സംവത്സരം ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെയും പുത്രിമാരെയും ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.
26 തേരഹിന്നു എഴുപതു വയസ്സായപ്പോൾ അവൻ അബ്രാം, നാഹോർ, ഹാരാൻ എന്നിവരെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27 തേരഹിന്റെ വംശപാരമ്പൎയ്യമാവിതു: തേരഹ് അബ്രാമിനെയും നാഹോരിനെയും ഹാരാനെയും ജനിപ്പിച്ചു; ഹാരാൻ ലോത്തിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.
28 എന്നാൽ ഹാരാൻ തന്റെ ജന്മദേശത്തുവെച്ചു, കൽദയരുടെ ഒരു പട്ടണമായ ഊരിൽവെച്ചു തന്നേ, തന്റെ അപ്പനായ തേരഹിന്നു മുമ്പെ മരിച്ചുപോയി. And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
29 അബ്രാമും നാഹോരും ഭാൎയ്യമാരെ എടുത്തു; അബ്രാമിന്റെ ഭാൎയ്യക്കു സാറായി എന്നും നാഹോരിന്റെ ഭാൎയ്യക്കു മിൽക്കാ എന്നും പേർ. ഇവൾ മിൽക്കയുടെയും യിസ്കയുടെയും അപ്പനായ ഹാരാന്റെ മകൾ തന്നേ. And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
30 സാറായി മച്ചിയായിരുന്നു; അവൾക്കു സന്തതി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
31 തേരഹ് തന്റെ മകനായ അബ്രാമിനെയും ഹാരാന്റെ മകനായ തന്റെ പൌത്രൻ ലോത്തിനെയും തന്റെ മകനായ അബ്രാമിന്റെ ഭാൎയ്യയായി മരുമകളായ സാറായിയെയും കൂട്ടി കൽദയരുടെ പട്ടണമായ ഊരിൽനിന്നു കനാൻദേശത്തേക്കു പോകുവാൻ പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവർ ഹാരാൻ വരെ വന്നു അവിടെ പാൎത്തു. And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
32 തേരഹിന്റെ ആയുഷ്കാലം ഇരുനൂറ്റഞ്ചു സംവത്സരം ആയിരുന്നു; തേരഹ് ഹാരാനിൽവെച്ചു മരിച്ചു. And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
