1 바위의 들염소가 새끼 낳는 때를 네가 아느냐? 혹은 암사슴이 새끼 낳는 때를 네가 정할 수 있느냐? Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?
2 그것들이 몇 달을 채워야 하는지 네가 셀 수 있느냐? 혹은 그것들이 새끼 낳는 때를 네가 아느냐? Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
3 그것들이 몸을 구부려 자기들의 새끼들을 낳고 자기들의 고생을 내던져 버리느니라. They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.
4 그것들의 새끼들은 튼튼하여 곡식을 먹고 자라다가 나아가서는 그것들에게 되돌아오지 아니하느니라. Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.
5 누가 들나귀를 내보내어 자유롭게 하였느냐? 혹은 누가 들나귀의 묶는 띠들을 풀어 주었느냐? Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?
6 내가 광야를 그것의 집으로, 불모지를 그것의 거처로 삼았느니라. Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.
7 들나귀는 도시의 군중들을 비웃으며 몰이꾼의 외치는 소리도 무시하고 He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.
8 산등성이를 자기의 초장으로 삼아 모든 푸른 것을 찾느니라. The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
9 유니콘이 기꺼이 너를 섬기겠으며 혹은 네 여물통 곁에 머물겠느냐? Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?
10 네가 능히 유니콘을 줄로 묶어 고랑을 갈게 하겠느냐? 혹은 그것이 너를 따라 골짜기에서 써레를 끌겠느냐? Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
11 그것의 힘이 세다고 네가 그것을 신뢰하겠느냐? 혹은 네가 수고할 일을 그것에게 맡기겠느냐? Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
12 그것이 네 씨앗을 집으로 가져오며 네 곳간에 그것을 모아들이리라고 네가 믿겠느냐? Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?
13 네가 공작에게 멋진 날개를 주었느냐? 혹은 타조에게 날개와 깃을 주었느냐? Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?
14 타조는 자기 알들을 땅 속에 버려두어 흙 속에서 따뜻하게 하고 Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
15 발이 그것들을 으깨거나 들짐승이 깨뜨릴 것도 잊어버리고 And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
16 자기 새끼들을 무정하게 대하되 마치 제 새끼가 아닌 것처럼 하며 자기 수고가 헛될지라도 두려워하지 아니하나니 She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;
17 이는 하나님이 그것에게서 지혜를 빼앗고 그것에게 명철을 나누어 주지 아니하였기 때문이라. Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.
18 타조가 몸을 높이 들 때에는 말과 그 위에 탄 자를 비웃느니라. What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
19 네가 말에게 힘을 주었느냐? 네가 그것의 목을 천둥으로 입혔느냐? Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
20 네가 그것으로 하여금 메뚜기처럼 무서워하게 할 수 있느냐? 그것의 콧구멍의 영광은 두려우니라. Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
21 그것이 골짜기에서 땅을 박차고 자기 힘을 기뻐하며 나아가서 군사들을 맞되 He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
22 두려움을 조롱하고 놀라지 아니하며 칼 앞에서도 돌아서지 아니하고 He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
23 화살 통과 번쩍이는 창과 방패가 자기를 향하여 우르르 소리를 낼지라도 The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
24 맹렬히 성을 내며 땅을 삼키고 그것이 나팔 소리인 줄을 믿지 아니하며 He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.
25 나팔 소리들 속에서도, 하하, 하고 멀리서 싸움 냄새를 맡으며 대장들의 호령 소리와 외치는 소리를 듣느니라. He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
26 네 지혜로 말미암아 매가 날며 남쪽을 향하여 날개를 펴느냐? Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?
27 네 명령에 따라 독수리가 날아오르고 높은 곳에 보금자리를 만드느냐? Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
28 그것이 바위 곧 험준한 바위와 견고한 곳에 거하며 또 머물고 She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
29 거기서 먹이를 찾으며 그것의 눈이 멀리 바라보고 From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.
30 그것의 새끼들도 피를 빠나니 죽임 당한 것들이 있는 곳에는 그것이 있느니라, 하시니라. Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.
