| 1 | 요시야의 아들 시드기야 왕이 여호야김의 아들 고니야를 대신하여 통치하였는데 그는 바빌론 왕 느부갓레살이 유다 땅에서 왕으로 삼은 자더라. | And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah. |
| 2 | 그러나 그와 그의 신하들과 그 땅의 백성이 주께서 대언자 예레미야를 통하여 이르신 그분의 말씀들에 귀를 기울이지 아니하고 | But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the Lord, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah. |
| 3 | 시드기야 왕이 셀레미야의 아들 여후갈과 제사장 마아세야의 아들 스바냐를 대언자 예레미야에게 보내어 이르되, 이제 우리를 위하여 주 우리 하나님께 기도하라, 하니라. | And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the Lord our God for us. |
| 4 | 그들이 예레미야를 감옥에 가두지 아니하였으므로 이제 그가 백성 가운데서 들어오고 나가고 하였더라. | Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison. |
| 5 | 그때에 파라오의 군대가 이집트에서 나오매 예루살렘을 에워싼 갈대아 사람들이 그들에 대한 소식을 듣고 예루살렘을 떠나니라. | Then Pharaoh’s army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem. |
| 6 | ¶그때에 주의 말씀이 대언자 예레미야에게 임하니라. 이르시되, | Then came the word of the Lord unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying, |
| 7 | 주 곧 이스라엘의 하나님이 이같이 말하노라. 너희를 내게 보내어 내게 묻게 한 유다 왕에게 너희는 이같이 말하라. 보라, 너희를 도우려고 나온 파라오의 군대가 자기들의 땅 이집트로 돌아가고 | Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land. |
| 8 | 갈대아 사람들이 다시 와서 이 도시와 싸워 그것을 빼앗고 불태우리라. | And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire. |
| 9 | 주가 이같이 말하노라. 너희는 너희 자신을 속이며 말하기를, 갈대아 사람들이 반드시 우리를 떠나리라, 하지 말라. 그들이 떠나지 아니하리라. | Thus saith the Lord; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart. |
| 10 | 비록 너희가 너희와 싸우는 갈대아 사람들의 온 군대를 쳐서 그들 가운데 부상자만 남긴다 할지라도 그들이 각각 자기 장막에서 일어나 이 도시를 불태우리라, 하시니라. | For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire. |
| 11 | ¶갈대아 사람들의 군대가 파라오의 군대를 두려워하여 예루살렘에서 떠나 흩어졌을 때에 | And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army, |
| 12 | 예레미야가 예루살렘에서 나아가 베냐민 땅으로 들어갔으니 이것은 거기서 즉 백성의 한가운데서 떠나 떨어져 지내고자 함이더라. | Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people. |
| 13 | 그가 베냐민의 성문 안에 있을 때에 하나냐의 손자요 셀레미야의 아들로서 이리야라는 이름을 가진 파수대 대장이 거기 있었는데 그가 대언자 예레미야를 붙잡고 이르되, 네가 갈대아 사람들에게 항복하는도다, 하매 | And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans. |
| 14 | 그때에 예레미야가 이르되, 그것은 거짓이라. 나는 갈대아 사람들에게 항복하지 아니하노라, 하였으나 그가 그의 말에 귀를 기울이지 아니하고 이처럼 이리야가 예레미야를 붙잡아 통치자들에게로 데려오니라. | Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes. |
| 15 | 그러므로 통치자들이 예레미야에게 화를 내고 그를 때려서 서기관 요나단의 집에 있던 감옥에 가두었으니 이는 그들이 그것을 감옥으로 삼았기 때문이더라. | Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison. |
| 16 | ¶예레미야가 지하 감옥의 골방에 들어가 거기서 여러 날 머물러 있었더니 | When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days; |
| 17 | 그때에 시드기야 왕이 사람을 보내어 그를 끌어내고 자기 집에서 그에게 은밀히 물어 이르되, 주로부터 받은 말씀이 있느냐? 하매 예레미야가 이르되, 있나이다. 그분께서 이르시기를, 네가 바빌론 왕의 손에 넘겨지리라, 하셨나이다, 하니라. | Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the Lord? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon. |
| 18 | 또 예레미야가 시드기야 왕에게 이르되, 내가 왕과 왕의 신하들과 이 백성에게 무슨 죄를 범하였기에 당신들이 나를 감옥에 가두었나이까? | Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison? |
| 19 | 바빌론 왕이 와서 당신들과 이 땅을 치지 아니하리라, 하며 당신들에게 대언하던 당신들의 대언자들은 지금 어디 있나이까? | Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land? |
| 20 | 그러므로, 오 내 주 왕이여, 원하건대 이제 들으소서. 원하건대 왕께서는 왕 앞에 드리는 나의 간구를 받으사 나를 서기관 요나단의 집으로 돌려보내지 마옵소서. 내가 거기서 죽을까 염려하나이다, 하매 | Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there. |
| 21 | 그때에 시드기야 왕이 명령하여 그들이 예레미야를 감옥 뜰에 두게 하고 또 빵 만드는 자들의 거리에서 나오는 빵 한 조각을 날마다 그에게 주게 하되 그 도시에서 빵이 다 떨어질 때까지 그리하게 하니라. 이와 같이 예레미야가 감옥 뜰에 머무니라. | Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison. |
