1 이제 이스라엘 왕 엘라의 아들 호세아의 제삼년에 유다 왕 아하스의 아들 히스기야가 통치하기 시작하니라. Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
2 그가 통치하기 시작할 때에 나이가 이십오 세더라. 그가 예루살렘에서 이십구 년 동안 통치하니라. 그의 어머니의 이름은 또한 사가랴의 딸 아비더라. Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.
3 히스기야가 자기 조상 다윗이 행한 모든 것에 따라 주의 눈앞에서 올바른 것을 행하니라. And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that David his father did.
4 ¶그가 산당들을 제거하고 형상들을 깨뜨리며 작은 숲들을 베어 내고 모세가 만든 놋 뱀을 산산조각 내니 이는 그때까지 이스라엘 자손이 그 뱀에게 분향하였기 때문이더라. 그가 이 뱀을 느후스탄이라 하였더라. He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.
5 그가 주 이스라엘의 하나님을 신뢰하였으니 그러므로 그 이후의 유다의 모든 왕들 가운데 그와 같은 자가 없었고 또한 그 이전에도 없었더라. He trusted in the Lord God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.
6 그가 주를 굳게 붙들고 그분을 따르는 일에서 떠나지 아니하며 주께서 모세에게 명령하신 그분의 명령들을 지켰더라. For he clave to the Lord, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the Lord commanded Moses.
7 주께서 그와 함께 계시매 그가 어디로 가든지 형통하였더라. 그가 아시리아 왕을 배반하고 그를 섬기지 아니하였으며 And the Lord was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.
8 블레셋 사람들을 쳐서 가자와 그것의 경계에까지 이르고 파수꾼들의 망대에서부터 성벽을 두른 도시에까지 이르렀더라. He smote the Philistines, even unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.
9 ¶히스기야 왕의 제사년 곧 이스라엘 왕 엘라의 아들 호세아의 제칠년에 아시리아 왕 살만에셀이 사마리아를 치러 올라와 그곳을 에워쌌더라. And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.
10 삼 년이 끝날 때에 그들이 그것을 점령하니 히스기야의 제육년 곧 이스라엘 왕 호세아의 제구년에 사마리아가 점령되니라. And at the end of three years they took it: even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.
11 아시리아 왕이 이스라엘을 사로잡아 아시리아로 데려가서 할라와 고산 강가의 하볼과 메대 사람들의 도시들에 두었으니 And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel unto Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:
12 이는 그들이 주 자기들의 하나님의 음성에 순종하지 아니하고 오히려 그분의 언약과 주의 종 모세가 명령한 모든 것을 어기며 그것들을 들으려 하지도 아니하고 행하려 하지도 아니하였기 때문이더라. Because they obeyed not the voice of the Lord their God, but transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them.
13 ¶히스기야 왕의 제십사년에 아시리아 왕 산헤립이 올라와 유다의 성벽을 두른 모든 도시를 쳐서 점령하매 Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them.
14 유다 왕 히스기야가 라기스로 사람을 보내어 아시리아 왕에게 이르되, 내가 잘못하였나이다. 나를 떠나 돌아가소서. 왕이 내게 짐 지워 주시는 것을 내가 감당하리이다, 하였더니 아시리아 왕이 유다 왕 히스기야에게 은 삼백 달란트와 금 삼십 달란트를 지정해 주니라. And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
15 히스기야가 주의 집과 왕의 집의 보고에서 찾은 모든 은을 주었고 And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasures of the king’s house.
16 또 그때에 유다 왕 히스기야가 주의 성전의 문들과 자기가 전에 금을 입힌 기둥들에서 금을 벗겨 아시리아 왕에게 주었더라. At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the Lord, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.
17 ¶아시리아 왕이 다르단과 랍사리스와 랍사게를 큰 군대와 함께 라기스에서 히스기야 왕에게 보내어 예루살렘을 치게 하매 그들이 올라와 예루살렘에 이르니라. 그들이 올라올 때에 세탁공의 밭의 큰길에 있는 위 연못의 수로 곁에 이르러 서니라. And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rab–shakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.
18 그들이 왕을 부르매 힐기야의 아들로서 집안을 감독하던 엘리아김과 서기관 셉나와 아삽의 아들 기록관 요아가 그들에게 나가니라. And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.
19 랍사게가 그들에게 이르되, 너희는 이제 히스기야에게 말하라. 위대한 왕 곧 아시리아 왕께서 이같이 말씀하시되, 네가 신뢰하는 이것이 과연 무슨 확신이냐? And Rab–shakeh said unto them, Speak ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
20 네가 이르기를, 내게 싸움에 쓸 계략과 능력이 있다, 하나 (그것들은 헛된 말이라.) 네가 이제 누구를 신뢰하기에 나를 배반하느냐? Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words,) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
21 보라, 이제 네가 이 상한 갈대 지팡이 이집트를 신뢰하는도다. 사람이 그 지팡이를 의지하면 그것이 그의 손으로 들어가 손을 찌르리라. 이집트 왕 파라오는 그를 신뢰하는 모든 자에게 그와 같으니라. Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him.
22 그러나 너희는 내게 이르기를, 우리는 주 우리 하나님을 신뢰하노라, 하지만 그는 히스기야가 산당들과 제단들을 제거하고 유다와 예루살렘에게 이르기를, 너희는 예루살렘에 있는 이 제단 앞에서 경배하라, 하던 그 신이 아니냐? 하시나니 But if ye say unto me, We trust in the Lord our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?
23 그러므로 원하건대 이제 내 주 아시리아 왕에게 보증금을 내라. 만일 네가 네 편에서 말 이천 마리에 말 타는 자를 태울 수 있거든 내가 그 말들을 네게 넘겨주리라. Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
24 그러할진대 네가 어찌 내 주인의 신하들 중의 가장 작은 대장의 얼굴을 물리치며 이집트를 신뢰하여 병거와 기병을 얻고자 하느냐? How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
25 내가 주의 뜻도 없이 이제 이곳을 쳐서 멸하러 올라왔겠느냐? 주가 내게 말하기를, 올라가서 이 땅을 치고 멸하라, 하였느니라, 하니라. Am I now come up without the Lord against this place to destroy it? The Lord said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
26 그때에 힐기야의 아들 엘리아김과 셉나와 요아가 랍사게에게 이르되, 우리가 그것을 알아듣사오니 원하건대 시리아 말로 당신의 종들에게 말씀하시고 성벽 위에 있는 백성의 귀에 대고 유대인들의 말로 우리에게 이야기하지 마옵소서, 하니라. Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, unto Rab–shakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and talk not with us in the Jews’ language in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
27 그러나 랍사게가 그들에게 이르되, 내 주인께서 네 주인과 네게만 이 말들을 하라고 나를 보내셨느냐? 그분께서 나를 성벽에 앉은 사람들에게도 보내사 그들이 너희와 함께 자기들의 대변을 먹게 하고 자기들의 소변을 마시게 하지 아니하셨느냐? 하고 But Rab–shakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?
28 그때에 랍사게가 서서 유대인들의 말로 크게 소리 질러 말하여 이르되, 위대한 왕 곧 아시리아 왕의 말씀을 들으라. Then Rab–shakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spake, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria:
29 왕께서 이같이 말씀하시되, 히스기야가 너희를 속이지 못하게 하라. 그가 능히 너희를 내 손에서 건져 내지 못하리라. Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand:
30 또한 히스기야가 이르되, 주께서 반드시 우리를 건지실 터인즉 이 도시가 아시리아 왕의 손에 넘어가지 아니하리라, 하면서 너희로 하여금 주를 신뢰하게 하지 못하도록 하라. Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying, The Lord will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
31 히스기야의 말에 귀를 기울이지 말라. 아시리아 왕이 이같이 말하노라. 예물을 가지고 나와 협정을 맺고 내게로 나아오라. 그리하고 너희는 각각 자기 포도나무와 자기 무화과나무에서 나는 것을 먹고 또 각각 자기 물 저장고의 물을 마시라. Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:
32 마침내 내가 와서 너희를 사로잡아 너희 땅과 같은 땅으로 옮길 터인데 그 땅은 곡식과 포도즙이 있는 땅이요, 빵과 포도원이 있는 땅이며 기름 올리브와 꿀이 있는 땅이라. 그리하여야 너희가 살고 죽지 아니하리라. 히스기야가 너희를 설득하여 이르기를, 주께서 우리를 건지시리라, 하여도 그의 말에 귀를 기울이지 말라. Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The Lord will deliver us.
33 민족들의 신들 중의 어떤 신이 자기 땅을 아시리아 왕의 손에서 건져 내었느냐? Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
34 하맛과 아르밧의 신들이 어디 있느냐? 스발와임과 헤나와 이바의 신들이 어디 있느냐? 그들이 사마리아를 내 손에서 건져 내었느냐? Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of mine hand?
35 이 나라들의 모든 신들 가운데서 누가 자기 나라를 내 손에서 건져 내었기에 주가 예루살렘을 내 손에서 건져 내겠느냐? 하시느니라. Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of mine hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of mine hand?
36 그러나 백성이 잠잠하고 한 마디도 그에게 대답하지 아니하였으니 이는 왕이 명령하여 이르기를, 그에게 대답하지 말라, 하였기 때문이라. But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
37 그때에 힐기야의 아들로서 집안을 감독하던 엘리아김과 서기관 셉나와 아삽의 아들 기록관 요아가 자기들의 옷을 찢고 히스기야에게 가서 랍사게의 말들을 그에게 고하니라. Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rab–shakeh.
