| 1 | 아하시야의 어머니 아달랴가 자기 아들이 죽은 것을 보고 일어나 왕가의 모든 씨를 멸하였으나 | And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal. |
| 2 | 요람 왕의 딸 곧 아하시야의 누이 여호세바가 아하시야의 아들 요아스를 취하여 죽임을 당한 왕의 아들들 가운데서 그를 훔쳐 내니라. 그들이 그와 그의 유모를 침실에 숨겨 아달랴에게서 피하게 하였으므로 그가 죽임을 당하지 아니하였더라. | But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain. |

| 4 | ¶일곱째 해에 여호야다가 사람을 보내어 백 명을 다스리는 치리자들을 대장들과 호위대와 함께 부르고 주의 집으로 그들을 데리고 들어가 그들과 언약을 맺으며 그들로 하여금 주의 집에서 맹세하게 한 뒤에 왕의 아들을 그들에게 보여 주고 | And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the Lord, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the Lord, and shewed them the king’s son. |
| 5 | 그들에게 명령하여 이르되, 너희가 행할 일은 이러하니라. 너희 중에서 삼분의 일 곧 안식일에 들어가는 자들은 왕의 집을 주의하여 지키라. | And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you that enter in on the sabbath shall even be keepers of the watch of the king’s house; |
| 6 | 또 삼분의 일은 수르 문에 있고 삼분의 일은 호위대 뒤에 있는 문에 있어서 너희가 이와 같이 그 집을 주의하여 지켜 그것이 침범당하지 아니하게 하라. | And a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the guard: so shall ye keep the watch of the house, that it be not broken down. |
| 7 | 또 안식일에 나아가는 너희 모든 사람의 두 무리 곧 그들은 왕을 위해 주의 집을 주의하여 지키되 | And two parts of all you that go forth on the sabbath, even they shall keep the watch of the house of the Lord about the king. |
| 8 | 너희는 각각 손에 병기를 잡고 사방으로 왕을 에워싸며 구역 안에 들어오는 자는 죽이고 왕이 나가고 들어올 때에 왕과 함께할지니라, 하니라. | And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand: and he that cometh within the ranges, let him be slain: and be ye with the king as he goeth out and as he cometh in. |
| 9 | 백인 대장들이 제사장 여호야다가 명령한 모든 것대로 행하여 그들이 각각 안식일에 들어가야 할 자기의 사람들을 안식일에 나와야 할 자들과 함께 거느리고 제사장 여호야다에게 나아오매 | And the captains over the hundreds did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest commanded: and they took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that should go out on the sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest. |
| 10 | 제사장이 주의 성전에 있던 다윗 왕의 창과 방패들을 백인 대장들에게 주니라. | And to the captains over hundreds did the priest give king David’s spears and shields, that were in the temple of the Lord. |
| 11 | 호위병들이 각각 손에 무기를 잡고 왕을 둘러싸되 성전의 오른쪽 모서리에서부터 성전의 왼쪽 모서리까지 제단과 성전 옆에 서고 | And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, round about the king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple, along by the altar and the temple. |
| 12 | 그가 왕의 아들을 데리고 나와 그에게 왕관을 씌우며 증언 책을 주매 그들이 그를 왕으로 삼고 그에게 기름을 부으며 손뼉을 치고 말하기를, 국왕 폐하 만세, 하니라. | And he brought forth the king’s son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, God save the king. |
| 13 | ¶아달랴가 호위병들과 백성의 소란한 소리를 듣고 주의 성전으로 들어가 백성에게 이르러 | And when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into the temple of the Lord. |
| 14 | 보매, 보라, 왕이 관례대로 기둥 옆에 섰고 통치자들과 나팔 부는 자들이 왕 옆에 섰으며 그 땅의 온 백성이 기뻐하여 나팔을 부니라. 아달랴가 옷을 찢으며 외치되, 반역이로다, 반역이로다, 하였으나 | And when she looked, behold, the king stood by a pillar, as the manner was, and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets: and Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, Treason, Treason. |
| 15 | 제사장 여호야다가 백인 대장들 곧 군대의 직무 수행자들에게 명령하고 그들에게 이르되, 그녀를 구역 밖으로 몰아내고 그녀를 따르는 자는 칼로 죽이라, 하였으니 전에 그 제사장이 말하기를, 주의 집에서는 그녀를 죽이지 말라, 하였더라. | But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the ranges: and him that followeth her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the Lord. |
| 16 | 그들이 그녀에게 손을 대매 그녀가 말들이 왕의 집에 이를 때에 지나는 길로 가다가 거기서 죽임을 당하였더라. | And they laid hands on her; and she went by the way by the which the horses came into the king’s house: and there was she slain. |
| 17 | ¶여호야다가 주와 왕과 백성 사이에 언약을 맺어 그들이 주의 백성이 되게 하고 또 왕과 백성 사이에도 언약을 맺게 하매 | And Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people, that they should be the Lord’s people; between the king also and the people. |
| 18 | 그 땅의 온 백성이 바알의 집으로 가서 그 집을 허물고 그의 제단들과 형상들을 철저히 산산조각 내며 제단들 앞에서 바알의 제사장 맛단을 죽이니라. 제사장이 주의 집을 지킬 직무 수행자들을 임명하고 | And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord. |
| 19 | 또 백 명을 다스리는 치리자들과 대장들과 호위대와 그 땅의 온 백성을 거느리고 왕을 주의 집에서 모시고 내려와 호위대의 문 길을 통해 왕의 집에 이르매 그가 왕들의 왕좌에 앉으니라. | And he took the rulers over hundreds, and the captains, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of the Lord, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king’s house. And he sat on the throne of the kings. |
| 20 | 그 땅의 온 백성이 기뻐하고 그 도시가 평온해졌더라. 그들이 아달랴를 왕의 집 옆에서 칼로 죽였더라. | And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king’s house. |
| 21 | 여호아스가 통치하기 시작할 때에 나이가 칠 세였더라. | Seven years old was Jehoash when he began to reign. |
