1 아합의 아들 칠십 명이 사마리아에 있더라. 예후가 편지를 써서 사마리아로 보내되 예스르엘의 치리자들 곧 장로들과 아합의 아이들을 양육한 자들에게 보내니라. 일렀으되, And Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Jehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria, unto the rulers of Jezreel, to the elders, and to them that brought up Ahab’s children, saying,
2 너희 주인의 아들들이 너희와 함께 있고 또 병거와 말과 성벽을 두른 도시와 갑옷도 너희에게 있으니 이제 이 편지가 너희에게 이르거든 곧바로 Now as soon as this letter cometh to you, seeing your master’s sons are with you, and there are with you chariots and horses, a fenced city also, and armour;
3 너희 주인의 아들들 중에서 가장 훌륭하고 적당한 자를 찾아 그의 아버지의 왕좌에 앉히고 너희 주인의 집을 위하여 싸우라, 하였더라. Look even out the best and meetest of your master’s sons, and set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house.
4 그러나 그들이 심히 두려워하여 이르되, 보라, 두 왕이 그 앞에서 서지 못하였거든 우리가 어찌 설 수 있으리요? 하고 But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, two kings stood not before him: how then shall we stand?
5 그 집을 다스리는 자와 도시를 다스리는 자와 또한 장로들과 그 아이들을 양육하는 자들이 예후에게 사람을 보내어 이르되, 우리는 당신의 종이오매 당신이 우리에게 명하는 모든 것을 우리가 행하고 아무도 왕으로 세우지 아니하리니 당신은 당신의 눈에 좋은 것을 행하소서, 하니라. And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up of the children, sent to Jehu, saying, We are thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt bid us; we will not make any king: do thou that which is good in thine eyes.
6 그때에 그가 두 번째 그들에게 편지를 쓰니라. 일렀으되, 만일 너희가 내 편이 되어 내 목소리에 귀를 기울이려거든 너희 주인의 아들들 곧 그 사람들의 머리를 취하고 내일 이맘때에 예스르엘에 이르러 내게 나아오라, 하였더라. 이제 왕의 아들들 칠십 명이 자기들을 양육한 자들 곧 그 도시의 위대한 자들과 함께 있을 때에 Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If ye be mine, and if ye will hearken unto my voice, take ye the heads of the men your master’s sons, and come to me to Jezreel by to morrow this time. Now the king’s sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, which brought them up.
7 편지가 그들에게 이르매 그들이 왕의 아들들을 데려다가 칠십 명을 죽이고 그들의 머리를 바구니에 담아 예스르엘에 있는 예후에게로 보내니라. And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons, and slew seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent him them to Jezreel.
8 ¶사자가 와서 그에게 고하여 이르되, 그들이 왕의 아들들의 머리를 가져왔나이다, 하니 그가 이르되, 너희는 아침까지 그것들을 성문 어귀에 두 무더기로 쌓아 두라, 하고 And there came a messenger, and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king’s sons. And he said, Lay ye them in two heaps at the entering in of the gate until the morning.
9 아침에 그가 나가 서서 온 백성에게 이르되, 너희는 의로울지어다. 보라, 나는 내 주인을 대적하여 음모를 꾸미고 그를 죽였거니와 이 모든 사람을 죽인 자는 누구냐? And it came to pass in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said to all the people, Ye be righteous: behold, I conspired against my master, and slew him: but who slew all these?
10 이제 알라. 곧 주께서 아합의 집에 관하여 말씀하신 주의 말씀은 하나도 땅에 떨어지지 아니하리라. 주께서 자신의 종 엘리야를 통하여 말씀하신 것을 행하셨도다, 하니라. Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of the Lord, which the Lord spake concerning the house of Ahab: for the Lord hath done that which he spake by his servant Elijah.
11 이와 같이 예후가 예스르엘에서 아합의 집에 속한 자들 중에 남아 있던 모든 자를 죽이고 그에게 속한 자가 하나도 남지 않을 때까지 그의 위대한 자들과 가까운 친척과 제사장들을 죽였더라. So Jehu slew all that remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his kinsfolks, and his priests, until he left him none remaining.
12 ¶예후가 일어나 떠나서 사마리아로 갔더라. 그가 길에서 양털 깎는 집에 있을 때에 And he arose and departed, and came to Samaria. And as he was at the shearing house in the way,
13 유다 왕 아하시야의 형제들을 만나 이르되, 너희는 누구냐? 하매 그들이 대답하되, 우리는 아하시야의 형제라. 우리가 왕의 자녀들과 왕비의 자녀들에게 문안하러 내려가노라, 하니 Jehu met with the brethren of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, Who are ye? And they answered, We are the brethren of Ahaziah; and we go down to salute the children of the king and the children of the queen.
14 그가 이르되, 그들을 산 채로 사로잡으라, 하매 그들이 그들을 산 채로 사로잡아 양털 깎는 집 구덩이에서 죽이니 곧 사십이 명이더라. 그가 그들 중의 하나도 남기지 아니하였더라. And he said, Take them alive. And they took them alive, and slew them at the pit of the shearing house, even two and forty men; neither left he any of them.
15 ¶예후가 거기서 떠나가다가 자기를 맞으러 오는 레갑의 아들 여호나답을 우연히 만나매 그가 그에게 안부를 묻고 그에게 이르되, 내 마음이 네 마음을 향하여 올바른 것 같이 네 마음도 그러하냐? 하니 여호나답이 대답하되, 그러하니이다, 하매 그가 이르되, 그러면 네 손을 내게 달라, 하니 그가 손을 주매 그가 그를 병거에 끌어올리며 And when he was departed thence, he lighted on Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him: and he saluted him, and said to him, Is thine heart right, as my heart is with thy heart? And Jehonadab answered, It is. If it be, give me thine hand. And he gave him his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot.
16 이르되, 나와 함께 가서 주를 위한 내 열심을 보라, 하거늘 이에 그들이 그를 그의 병거에 태우니라. And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord. So they made him ride in his chariot.
17 그가 사마리아에 이르러 주께서 엘리야에게 하신 말씀대로 사마리아에서 아합에게 남아 있던 모든 자를 죽여 마침내 그를 멸하였더라. And when he came to Samaria, he slew all that remained unto Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the saying of the Lord, which he spake to Elijah.
18 ¶예후가 온 백성을 함께 모으고 그들에게 말하되, 아합은 바알을 조금 섬겼으나 예후는 그를 많이 섬기리라. And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu shall serve him much.
19 내가 큰 희생물을 바알에게 드리려 하노니 그러므로 이제 바알의 모든 대언자들과 그의 모든 종들과 모든 제사장들을 불러 내게로 나오게 하라. 아무도 빠지지 않게 하라. 누구든지 빠지는 자는 살지 못하리라, 하니라. 그러나 예후가 바알 숭배자들을 멸하려는 목적으로 그 일을 교묘히 행하였더라. Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.
20 예후가 이르기를, 바알을 위한 엄숙한 집회를 선포하라, 하니 그들이 그것을 선포하였더라. And Jehu said, Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it.
21 예후가 온 이스라엘에 두루 사람을 보내었더니 모든 바알 숭배자들이 오므로 오지 않은 자는 하나도 남지 아니하였으며 그들이 바알의 집으로 들어가매 바알의 집이 이 끝부터 저 끝까지 가득 찼더라. And Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was full from one end to another.
22 예후가 예복실을 담당하는 자에게 말하되, 예복을 가져다가 모든 바알 숭배자들에게 주라, 하매 그가 그들에게 예복을 가져오니 And he said unto him that was over the vestry, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought them forth vestments.
23 예후와 레갑의 아들 여호나답이 바알의 집에 들어가 바알 숭배자들에게 이르되, 살피고 조심하여 바알 숭배자들만 있게 하며 주의 종은 여기에 한 사람도 너희와 함께하지 못하게 하라, 하고 And Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of Baal, and said unto the worshippers of Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of the Lord, but the worshippers of Baal only.
24 그들이 희생물과 번제 헌물을 드리러 들어간 때에 예후가 밖에 팔십 명을 정하여 두고는 이르되, 내가 너희 손에 넘겨준 자들 중의 하나라도 도망하면 그를 가게 하는 자로 말하건대 그의 생명이 그 사람의 생명을 대신하리라, 하니라. And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him.
25 예후가 번제 헌물 드리기를 마치고는 곧바로 호위병들과 대장들에게 이르되, 들어가서 한 사람도 나가지 못하게 하고 그들을 죽이라, 하매 호위병들과 대장들이 칼날로 그들을 쳐서 밖으로 던지고 바알의 집이 있는 도시로 가서 And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and slay them; let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal.
26 바알의 집에서 형상들을 가져다가 불태우며 And they brought forth the images out of the house of Baal, and burned them.
27 바알의 형상을 부수고 바알의 집을 부수어 변소를 만들었더니 이 날까지 이르니라. And they brake down the image of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a draught house unto this day.
28 예후가 이와 같이 바알을 이스라엘에서 멸하였더라. Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.
29 ¶그러나 예후가 이스라엘로 하여금 죄를 짓게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 죄들 곧 벧엘과 단에 있던 금송아지들을 따르는 죄들에서는 떠나지 아니하였더라. Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Beth–el, and that were in Dan.
30 주께서 예후에게 이르시되, 네가 내 눈에 올바른 것을 집행하되 잘 행하여 내 마음에 있는 모든 것에 따라 아합의 집에 행하였은즉 네 사대 자손이 이스라엘 왕좌에 앉으리라, 하시니라. And the Lord said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.
31 그러나 예후가 주의를 기울여 자기의 마음을 다해 주 이스라엘의 하나님의 율법 안에서 걸으려 하지 아니하였으니 그가 이스라엘로 하여금 죄를 짓게 한 여로보암의 죄들에서 떠나지 아니하였더라. But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.
32 ¶그때에 주께서 이스라엘을 단축시키기 시작하시매 하사엘이 이스라엘 온 지역에서 그들을 치되 In those days the Lord began to cut Israel short: and Hazael smote them in all the coasts of Israel;
33 요르단에서 동쪽으로 길르앗 온 땅 곧 갓 족속과 르우벤 족속과 므낫세 족속과 아르논 강 옆의 아로엘에서부터 길르앗과 바산에 이르기까지 치니라. From Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.
34 이제 예후의 나머지 행적과 그가 행한 모든 일과 그의 모든 권력은 이스라엘 왕들의 연대기 책에 기록되어 있지 아니하냐? Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
35 예후가 자기 조상들과 함께 잠들매 그들이 그를 사마리아에 묻으니 그의 아들 여호아하스가 그를 대신하여 통치하니라. And Jehu slept with his fathers: and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son reigned in his stead.
36 예후가 사마리아에서 이스라엘을 통치한 기간은 이십팔 년이더라. And the time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty and eight years.
