1 시리아와 이스라엘이 삼 년 동안 서로 전쟁을 하지 않고 지내었더라. And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israel.
2 셋째 해에 유다 왕 여호사밧이 이스라엘 왕에게 내려가매 And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.
3 이스라엘 왕이 자기 신하들에게 이르되, 길르앗에 있는 라못은 우리의 것인데 우리가 시리아 왕의 손에서 그곳을 취하지 아니하고 잠잠히 있음을 너희가 아느냐? 하고 And the king of Israel said unto his servants, Know ye that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, and we be still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria?
4 여호사밧에게 이르되, 당신은 나와 함께 라못길르앗으로 싸우러 가시겠느냐? 하니 여호사밧이 이스라엘 왕에게 이르되, 나는 당신과 같고 내 백성은 당신의 백성과 같으며 내 말(馬)들도 당신의 말들과 같나이다, 하고 And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramoth–gilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.
5 여호사밧이 또 이스라엘 왕에게 이르되, 원하건대 오늘 주의 말씀에 여쭈어 보소서, 하니라. And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the Lord to day.
6 이에 이스라엘 왕이 대언자 사백 명가량을 함께 모으고 그들에게 이르되, 내가 라못길르앗으로 싸우러 가랴, 아니면 삼가랴? 하니 그들이 이르되, 올라가소서. 주께서 그곳을 왕의 손에 넘겨주시리이다, 하매 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramoth–gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
7 여호사밧이 이르되, 우리가 주께 여쭙고자 하니 이들 말고 여기에 그분의 대언자가 없나이까? 하매 And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the Lord besides, that we might enquire of him?
8 이스라엘 왕이 여호사밧에게 이르되, 아직 한 사람 곧 이믈라의 아들 미가야가 있으니 우리가 그를 통해 주께 여쭐 수 있으나 그는 나에 관하여 좋게 대언하지 아니하고 나쁘게 대언하므로 내가 그를 미워하나이다, 하매 여호사밧이 이르되, 왕은 그런 말씀을 하지 마소서, 하니 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the Lord: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
9 이에 이스라엘 왕이 직무 수행자 하나를 불러 이르되, 이믈라의 아들 미가야를 속히 여기로 데려오라, 하니라. Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, Hasten hither Micaiah the son of Imlah.
10 이스라엘 왕과 유다 왕 여호사밧이 자기들의 의복을 입고 사마리아 성문 입구의 빈 곳에서 각각 자기 왕좌에 앉았고 모든 대언자들은 그들 앞에서 대언을 하더라. And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.
11 그나아나의 아들 시드기야가 자기를 위해 쇠로 뿔들을 만들고 이르되, 주가 이같이 말하노라. 네가 이것들로 시리아 사람들을 찔러 마침내 그들을 소멸시키리라, 하고 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron: and he said, Thus saith the Lord, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until thou have consumed them.
12 모든 대언자들도 그와 같이 대언하여 이르기를, 라못길르앗으로 올라가 형통하소서. 주께서 그곳을 왕의 손에 넘겨주시리이다, 하더라. And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth–gilead, and prosper: for the Lord shall deliver it into the king’s hand.
13 미가야를 부르러 간 사자가 그에게 말하여 이르되, 이제 보소서, 대언자들의 말이 한 입으로 왕에게 좋게 고하니 원하건대 당신의 말도 그들 중의 한 사람의 말처럼 되게 하여 좋은 것을 말하소서, 하매 And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good unto the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak that which is good.
14 미가야가 이르되, 주께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니 주께서 내게 말씀하시는 것 즉 그것을 내가 말하리라, 하니라. And Micaiah said, As the Lord liveth, what the Lord saith unto me, that will I speak.
15 ¶이에 그가 왕에게 나오니 왕이 그에게 이르되, 미가야야, 우리가 라못길르앗을 치려고 싸우러 가랴, 아니면 삼가랴? 하매 그가 왕에게 대답하되, 가서 형통하소서. 주께서 그곳을 왕의 손에 넘겨주시리이다, 하니 So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramoth–gilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
16 왕이 그에게 이르되, 내가 몇 번이나 너로 하여금 맹세하게 하여야 네가 주의 이름으로 오직 진실한 것만을 내게 고하겠느냐? 하매 And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the Lord?
17 그가 이르되, 내가 보니 온 이스라엘이 목자 없는 양같이 산들에 흩어졌는데 주께서 말씀하시기를, 이들에게 주인이 없은즉 그들이 각각 평안히 자기 집으로 돌아가게 하라, 하셨나이다. And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and the Lord said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace.
18 이스라엘 왕이 여호사밧에게 이르되, 그가 나에 관하여 좋게 대언하지 아니하고 나쁘게 대언하려 한다고 내가 당신에게 말하지 아니하였나이까? 하매 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?
19 그가 이르되, 그런즉 왕은 주의 말씀을 들으소서. 내가 보니 주께서 자신의 왕좌에 앉으셨고 하늘의 온 군대가 그분 옆으로 오른쪽과 왼쪽에 서 있었나이다. And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.
20 주께서 이르시되, 누가 아합을 설득하여 그가 올라가 라못길르앗에서 쓰러지게 할까? 하시니 하나는 이런 식으로 말하고 다른 하나는 저런 식으로 말하였는데 And the Lord said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth–gilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.
21 한 영이 나아와 주 앞에 서서 이르되, 내가 그를 설득하겠나이다, 하거늘 And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said, I will persuade him.
22 주께서 그에게 이르시되, 무엇으로 하겠느냐? 하시니 그가 이르되, 내가 나가서 그의 모든 대언자들의 입에서 거짓말하는 영이 되겠나이다, 하매 그분께서 이르시되, 너는 그를 설득하겠고 또 이기리라. 나아가서 그와 같이 하라, 하셨나이다. And the Lord said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.
23 그러므로 이제 보소서, 주께서 거짓말하는 영을 왕의 이 모든 대언자들의 입에 넣으셨고 또 주께서 왕에 관하여 화를 말씀하셨나이다, 하니라. Now therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil concerning thee.
24 그러나 그나아나의 아들 시드기야가 가까이 나아와 미가야의 뺨을 치며 이르되, 주의 영께서 나를 떠나 어느 길로 가서 네게 말씀하시더냐? 하니 But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the Lord from me to speak unto thee?
25 미가야가 이르되, 보라, 네가 안에 있는 방에 들어가서 숨는 그 날에 보리라, 하니라. And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.
26 이스라엘 왕이 이르되, 미가야를 붙잡아 도시의 감독자 아몬과 왕의 아들 요아스에게로 다시 끌고 가서 And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son;
27 이르되, 왕이 이같이 말하기를, 이놈을 감옥에 가두고 내가 평안히 올 때까지 고난의 빵과 고난의 물로 먹이라, 하신다, 하라, 하니 And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.
28 미가야가 이르되, 왕이 참으로 평안히 돌아오실진대 주께서 나를 통해 말씀하지 아니하셨나이다, 하고 또 그가 이르되, 오 백성들아, 너희는 다 귀를 기울일지어다, 하니라. And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.
29 이처럼 이스라엘 왕과 유다 왕 여호사밧이 라못길르앗으로 올라가니라. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth–gilead.
30 이스라엘 왕이 여호사밧에게 이르되, 나는 변장하고 싸우러 들어가려 하거니와 당신은 당신의 의복을 입으소서, 하고는 이스라엘 왕이 변장하고 싸우러 들어가니라. And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.
31 그러나 시리아 왕이 자기 병거를 다스리는 서른두 명의 대장들에게 명령하여 이르기를, 작은 자나 큰 자와 싸우지 말고 오직 이스라엘 왕과 싸우라, 하니라. But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.
32 병거의 대장들이 여호사밧을 보고 이르되, 그는 분명히 이스라엘 왕이라, 하고 돌이켜서 그와 싸우려 한즉 여호사밧이 크게 소리를 지르니라. And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.
33 병거의 대장들이 그가 이스라엘 왕이 아닌 줄을 알고는 그를 쫓는 일을 그치고 돌이켰더라. And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.
34 어떤 사람이 우연히 활을 당겨 이스라엘 왕의 갑옷 이음매 사이를 쏘니 그러므로 그가 자기 병거를 모는 자에게 이르되, 내가 부상을 당하였은즉 네 손을 돌이켜 나를 군대에서 데리고 나가라, 하니라. And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
35 그 날에 싸움이 더 커졌으므로 왕이 자기 병거에 남아 시리아 사람들을 막다가 저녁때에 죽으니 상처에서 나온 피가 병거의 한가운데로 흘렀더라. And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.
36 해가 질 무렵에 군대에서 두루 선포하는 소리가 있어 이르되, 각각 자기 도시로 각각 자기 본향으로 돌아가라, 하였더라. And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.
37 ¶이와 같이 왕이 죽으매 그들이 사마리아로 왕을 데리고 가서 왕을 사마리아에 묻으니라. So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.
38 한 사람이 그 병거를 사마리아의 연못에서 씻으매 개들이 그의 피를 핥았고 그들이 그의 갑옷을 씻었으니 주께서 그에게 하신 말씀대로 되었더라. And one washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armour; according unto the word of the Lord which he spake.
39 이제 아합의 나머지 행적과 그가 행한 모든 일과 그가 만든 상아 집과 그가 건축한 모든 도시들은 이스라엘 왕들의 연대기 책에 기록되어 있지 아니하냐? Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he made, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
40 이렇게 아합이 자기 조상들과 함께 잠드니 그의 아들 아하시야가 그를 대신하여 통치하니라. So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.
41 ¶이스라엘 왕 아합의 제사년에 아사의 아들 여호사밧이 유다를 통치하기 시작하니라. And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.
42 여호사밧이 통치하기 시작할 때에 나이가 삼십오 세더라. 그가 예루살렘에서 이십오 년 동안 통치하니라. 그의 어머니의 이름은 실히의 딸 아수바더라. Jehoshaphat was thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
43 그가 자기 아버지 아사의 모든 길로 걸으며 거기서 돌이키지 아니하고 주의 눈에 올바른 것을 행하였으나 그럼에도 불구하고 산당들은 제거하지 아니하였으니 이는 백성이 여전히 산당들에서 헌물을 드리며 분향하였기 때문이더라. And he walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the Lord: nevertheless the high places were not taken away; for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places.
44 여호사밧이 이스라엘 왕과 화친하니라. And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.
45 이제 여호사밧의 나머지 행적과 그가 보여 준 그의 권력과 또 그가 어떻게 전쟁하였는지는 유다 왕들의 연대기 책에 기록되어 있지 아니하냐? Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he shewed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
46 그가 남색 하는 자들 중에서 남은 자들 곧 자기 아버지 아사 시대에 남아 있던 자들을 그 땅에서 쫓아내었더라. And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land.
47 그때에 에돔에는 왕이 없었고 대리인이 왕이었더라. There was then no king in Edom: a deputy was king.
48 여호사밧이 다시스의 배들을 만들고 오빌로 금을 가지러 가게 하였으나 그 배들이 에시온게벨에서 부서졌으므로 가지 못하였더라. Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Ezion–geber.
49 그때에 아합의 아들 아하시야가 여호사밧에게 이르되, 내 종들이 당신의 종들과 함께 배들로 가게 하소서, 하였으나 여호사밧이 허락하지 아니하였더라. Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab unto Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not.
50 ¶여호사밧이 자기 조상들과 함께 잠들어 자기 조상 다윗의 도시에 자기 조상들과 함께 묻히니 그의 아들 여호람이 그를 대신하여 통치하니라. And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.
51 ¶유다 왕 여호사밧의 제십칠년에 아합의 아들 아하시야가 사마리아에서 이스라엘을 통치하기 시작하여 이 년 동안 이스라엘을 통치하니라. Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned two years over Israel.
52 그가 주의 눈앞에서 악을 행하여 자기 아버지의 길과 자기 어머니의 길과 이스라엘로 하여금 죄를 짓게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 길로 걸었더라. And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin:
53 그가 바알을 섬기고 그에게 경배하며 자기 아버지가 행한 모든 것에 따라 주 이스라엘의 하나님의 분노를 일으켰더라. For he served Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked to anger the Lord God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.
