1 에훗이 죽은 뒤에 이스라엘 자손이 다시 주의 눈앞에서 악을 행하므로 And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord, when Ehud was dead.
2 주께서 하솔에서 통치하던 가나안 왕 야빈의 손에 그들을 파셨는데 그의 군대 대장은 이방인들의 하로셋에 거하던 시스라더라. And the Lord sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host was Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.
3 그에게는 철 병거 구백 대가 있었고 그가 이십 년 동안 이스라엘 자손을 심히 학대하였으므로 이스라엘 자손이 주께 부르짖으니라. And the children of Israel cried unto the Lord: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.
4 ¶그때에 라비돗의 아내 여대언자 드보라가 이스라엘을 재판하였더라. And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.
5 그 여인은 에브라임 산의 라마와 벧엘 사이에 있는 드보라의 종려나무 밑에 거하였고 이스라엘 자손은 그녀에게로 올라가 재판을 받았더라. And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Beth–el in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.
6 그녀가 사람을 보내어 아비노암의 아들 바락을 게데스납달리에서 불러 그에게 이르되, 주 이스라엘의 하나님께서 이같이 명령하지 아니하셨느냐? 말씀하시기를, 가서 납달리 자손과 스불론 자손 중에서 만 명을 거느리고 다볼 산으로 다가가라. And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh–naphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the Lord God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?
7 내가 야빈의 군대 대장 시스라와 그의 병거와 그의 무리를 기손 강으로 이끌어 네게 이르게 하고 그를 네 손에 넘겨주리라, 하셨느니라. And I will draw unto thee to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand.
8 바락이 그녀에게 이르되, 당신이 나와 함께 가면 내가 가려니와 당신이 나와 함께 가지 아니하면 내가 가지 아니하겠노라, 하매 And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go.
9 그녀가 이르되, 내가 반드시 너와 함께 가리라. 그럼에도 불구하고 네 여정이 네게 명예가 되지 아니하리니 이는 주께서 시스라를 한 여인의 손에 파실 것이기 때문이니라, 하고 드보라가 일어나 바락과 함께 게데스로 가니라. And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the Lord shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.
10 ¶바락이 스불론과 납달리를 게데스로 불러 자기 발밑에 만 명을 거느린 채 올라가고 드보라도 그와 함께 올라가니라. And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him.
11 이제 모세의 장인 호밥의 자손 중에서 겐 족속 헤벨이 자신을 분리하여 겐 족속을 떠나 게데스 옆의 사아나임 평야에 이르러 장막을 쳤더라. Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.
12 아비노암의 아들 바락이 다볼 산에 오른 것을 그들이 시스라에게 알리매 And they shewed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount Tabor.
13 시스라가 자기의 모든 병거 곧 철 병거 구백 대와 자기와 함께한 온 백성을 이방인들의 하로셋에서부터 기손 강으로 함께 모으니 And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Kishon.
14 드보라가 바락에게 이르되, 일어나라. 이 날은 주께서 시스라를 네 손에 넘겨주신 날이니라. 주께서 너보다 앞서 가지 아니하시느냐? 하니 이에 바락이 자기를 따르는 만 명을 거느리고 다볼 산에서 내려가니라. And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the Lord hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the Lord gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
15 주께서 시스라와 그의 모든 병거와 그의 온 군대를 바락 앞에서 칼날로 쳐서 무찌르시니 이에 시스라가 자기 병거에서 내려 걸어서 도망하니라. And the Lord discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet.
16 그러나 바락이 그 병거들과 군대를 추격하여 이방인들의 하로셋에 이르렀는데 시스라의 온 군대는 칼날에 쓰러졌고 한 사람도 남은 자가 없었더라. But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left.
17 그럼에도 불구하고 시스라는 걸어서 도망하여 겐 족속 헤벨의 아내 야엘의 장막에 이르렀으니 이는 하솔 왕 야빈과 겐 족속 헤벨의 집 사이에 화평이 있었기 때문이더라. Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.
18 ¶야엘이 나가서 시스라를 맞으며 그에게 이르되, 내 주여, 들어오소서. 내게로 들어오시고 두려워하지 마소서, 하매 그가 그녀에게로 돌이켜 장막에 들어가니 그녀가 겉옷으로 그를 덮으니라. And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle.
19 그가 그녀에게 이르되, 내가 목마르니 원하건대 내게 물을 조금 주어 마시게 하라, 하매 그녀가 우유 부대를 열어 그에게 마시게 하고 그를 덮으니 And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.
20 그가 또 그녀에게 이르되, 장막 문에 섰다가 만일 어떤 사람이 와서 네게 물어 말하기를, 여기 어떤 사람이 있느냐? 하거든 너는, 없다, 하라, 하고 Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and enquire of thee, and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No.
21 피곤하여 곧장 잠들매 그때에 헤벨의 아내 야엘이 장막의 말뚝을 취하고 손에 쇠망치를 들고 그에게 살며시 다가가 말뚝을 그의 관자놀이에 박고 땅에 고정시키니 이에 그가 죽으니라. Then Jael Heber’s wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.
22 보라, 바락이 시스라를 추격할 때에 야엘이 나가서 그를 맞으며 그에게 이르되, 오라, 네가 찾는 사람을 네게 보이리라, 하매 그가 그녀의 장막에 들어가니, 보라, 시스라가 죽은 채 누워 있고 말뚝이 그의 관자놀이에 박혀 있더라. And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples.
23 이같이 그 날에 하나님께서 가나안 왕 야빈을 이스라엘 자손 앞에 굴복하게 하셨으므로 So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.
24 이스라엘 자손의 손이 번창하게 되어 가나안 왕 야빈을 이기고 마침내 그들이 가나안 왕 야빈을 멸하였더라. And the hand of the children of Israel prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.
