1 에브라임 사람들이 함께 모여 북쪽으로 가서 입다에게 이르되, 네가 암몬 자손과 싸우러 건너갈 때에 어찌하여 우리를 불러 너와 함께 가게 하지 아니하였느냐? 우리가 너와 네 집을 불태우리라, 하매 And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.
2 입다가 그들에게 이르되, 나와 내 백성이 암몬 자손과 크게 싸울 때에 내가 너희를 부르되 너희가 나를 그들의 손에서 건져 내지 아니하므로 And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.
3 너희가 나를 건져 내지 아니함을 내가 보고 내 생명을 내 손에 두고 건너가서 암몬 자손을 쳤더니 주께서 그들을 내 손에 넘겨주셨거늘 너희가 어찌하여 이 날 내게로 올라와서 나와 싸우고자 하느냐? 하고 And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the Lord delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?
4 그때에 입다가 길르앗의 모든 사람들을 함께 모아 에브라임과 싸웠더라. 길르앗 사람들이 에브라임을 쳤으니 이는 그들이 말하기를, 너희 길르앗 사람들은 에브라임에서 도망한 자들로서 에브라임 사람들과 므낫세 사람들 가운데 있느니라, 하였기 때문이라. Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.
5 길르앗 사람들이 에브라임 사람들보다 먼저 요르단의 통로를 점령하고는 도망한 그 에브라임 사람들이 말하기를, 내가 지나가게 하라, 하면 길르앗 사람들이 그에게 말하기를, 네가 에브라임 사람이냐? 하여 그가 만일 말하기를, 아니라, 하면 And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;
6 그들이 그에게, 이제 쉽볼렛을 말해 보라, 하고 그가 능히 그것을 바르게 발음하여 말하지 못하므로 십볼렛이라 하면 그들이 곧 그를 붙잡아 요르단의 통로에서 죽였더라. 그때에 에브라임 사람들 중에서 쓰러진 자가 사만 이천 명이었더라. Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
7 입다가 육 년 동안 이스라엘을 재판하였고 그때에 길르앗 사람 입다가 죽어서 길르앗의 도시들 중의 하나에 묻히니라. And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.
8 ¶입다 이후에는 베들레헴의 입산이 이스라엘을 재판하니라. And after him Ibzan of Beth–lehem judged Israel.
9 그에게 아들 서른 명과 딸 서른 명이 있었는데 그가 딸들은 다른 곳으로 보내고 아들들을 위하여 다른 곳에서 딸 서른 명을 데려왔더라. 그가 칠 년 동안 이스라엘을 재판하니라. And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
10 입산이 죽어서 베들레헴에 묻히니라. Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Beth–lehem.
11 ¶입산 이후에는 스불론 사람 엘론이 이스라엘을 재판하되 십 년 동안 이스라엘을 재판하였더라. And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.
12 스불론 사람 엘론이 죽어서 스불론 지방 아이얄론에 묻히니라. And Elon the Zebulonite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.
13 ¶엘론 이후에는 비라돈 사람 힐렐의 아들 압돈이 이스라엘을 재판하니라. And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.
14 그에게 아들 마흔 명과 손자 서른 명이 있었는데 그들이 어린 나귀 일흔 마리를 탔더라. 압돈이 팔 년 동안 이스라엘을 재판하니라. And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.
15 비라돈 사람 힐렐의 아들 압돈이 죽어서 에브라임 땅 곧 아말렉 족속의 산에 있는 비라돈에 묻히니라. And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the Amalekites.
