1 예수 그리스도의 갇힌 자 된 바울과 우리 형제 디모데는 우리가 극진히 사랑하는 자요 동료 일꾼인 빌레몬과 Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer,
2 우리가 사랑하는 압비아와 우리의 동료 군사 아깁보와 네 집에 있는 교회에 편지하노니 And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house:
3 하나님 우리 아버지와 주 예수 그리스도로부터 은혜와 평강이 너희에게 있기를 원하노라. Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 내가 내 하나님께 감사하고 기도할 때에 항상 너에 관하여 말함은 I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,
5 주 예수님과 또 모든 성도들을 향해 네가 품은 네 사랑과 믿음에 관하여 듣기 때문이라. Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;
6 또 내가 그리함은 너의 믿음을 나누는 일이 그리스도 예수님 안에서 너희 안에 있는 모든 선한 것을 인정받음으로 말미암아 효력 있게 하려 함이라. That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
7 형제여, 성도들의 속 중심이 너로 말미암아 상쾌하게 되었으므로 우리는 네 사랑 안에서 큰 기쁨과 안위를 얻었노라. For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.
8 그러므로 내가 그리스도 안에서 심히 담대하여 합당한 것을 네게 명할 수도 있으나 Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,
9 도리어 사랑으로 인해 네게 간청하노라. 나이가 많은 나 바울은 또한 지금 예수 그리스도의 갇힌 자가 되어 Yet for love’s sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
10 내가 결박 중에 낳은 나의 아들 오네시모를 위하여 네게 간청하노라. I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:
11 그가 지나간 때에는 네게 무익하였으나 이제는 너와 내게 유익하므로 Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:
12 내가 그를 다시 보내었노니 그런즉 너는 그를 받아들이라. 그는 곧 내 속 중심과 같은 자니라. Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:
13 내가 그를 나와 함께 있게 하여 복음으로 인해 결박당한 나를 너 대신 섬기게 할 수 있었으나 Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:
14 너의 동의 없이는 내가 아무것도 하기를 원치 아니하노니 이것은 네가 베푸는 은택이 마지못해 하는 것처럼 되지 아니하고 자진해서 하는 것처럼 되게 하려 함이라. But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.
15 그런즉 그가 잠시 떠난 것은 아마도 네가 그를 영원히 받아들이게 하려 함이리니 For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;
16 이제는 종으로서가 아니요 오히려 종 이상의 사랑하는 형제로서니라. 특별히 내게 그러하거늘 하물며 네게는 육신 안에서나 주 안에서나 얼마나 더 많이 그러하랴? Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?
17 그러므로 네가 나를 동반자로 여기거든 마치 나를 받아들이는 것 같이 그를 받아들이라. If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.
18 만일 그가 네게 잘못을 했거나 조금이라도 빚을 졌거든 그것을 내 회계장부에 넣으라. If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;
19 나 바울은 내 손으로 그것을 썼노니 내가 그것을 갚으리라. 그러나 네가 이 외에 네 자신마저도 내게 빚지고 있는 것에 대하여는 내가 네게 말하지 아니하노라. I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.
20 참으로 형제여, 내가 주 안에서 너로 말미암아 기쁨을 얻게 하고 내 속 중심을 주 안에서 상쾌하게 하라. Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.
21 나는 네가 순종할 것을 확신하므로 네게 썼으며 또한 내가 말하는 것 이상으로 네가 행할 줄을 아노라. Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
22 한편 이 외에도 또한 나를 위해 숙소를 마련하라. 너희 기도를 통해 내가 너희에게로 보내어질 줄 확신하노라. But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.
23 그리스도 예수님 안에서 나와 함께 갇힌 자 된 에바브라가 네게 문안하며 There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;
24 나의 동료 일꾼 마가와 아리스다고와 데마와 누가가 문안하노라. Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.
25 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜가 너희 영과 함께 있기를 원하노라. 아멘. ¶빌레몬에게 로마에서 써서 종 오네시모 편에 보내다. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. Written from Rome to Philemon, by Onesimus a servant.
