| 1 | 모든 혼은 더 높은 권력들에 복종할지니 하나님으로부터 나지 않은 권력이 없으며 이미 있는 권력들도 하나님께서 임명하셨느니라. | Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. |
| 2 | 그러므로 누구든지 권력에 거역하는 자는 하나님의 규례를 거역하나니 거역하는 자들은 스스로 정죄를 받으리라. | Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. |
| 3 | 치리자들은 선한 일이 아니라 악한 일에 대하여 두려움이 되나니 그런즉 네가 권력을 두려워하지 아니하려느냐? 선한 일을 행하라. 그리하면 네가 바로 그에게 칭찬을 받으리라. | For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: |

But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. |
| 5 | 그러므로 너희는 진노 때문만이 아니라 양심을 위해서도 반드시 복종해야 하느니라. | Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. |
| 6 | 이런 까닭에 너희가 공세도 바치나니 그들은 하나님의 사역자로서 바로 이 일에 항상 힘쓰느니라. | For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. |
| 7 | 그러므로 모든 사람에게 그들이 마땅히 받을 것을 주되 공세 받을 자에게 공세를, 관세 받을 자에게 관세를, 두려워할 자에게 두려움을, 존경할 자에게 존경을 주라. | Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. |
| 8 | 서로 사랑하는 것 외에는 누구에게든지 어떤 것도 빚지지 말라. 다른 사람을 사랑하는 자는 율법을 성취하였느니라. | Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. |
| 9 | 너는 간음하지 말라, 너는 살인하지 말라, 너는 도둑질하지 말라, 너는 거짓 증언하지 말라, 너는 탐내지 말라, 한 것과 어떤 다른 명령이 있을지라도 그것은, 너는 네 이웃을 네 자신과 같이 사랑하라, 하신 이 말씀 안에 간략하게 들어 있느니라. | For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. |
| 10 | 사랑은 자기 이웃에게 해를 끼치지 아니하나니 그러므로 사랑은 율법의 완성이니라. | Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. |
| 11 | 또 때를 알거니와 지금이 우리가 잠에서 깨어야 할 바로 그때이니 이는 지금 우리의 구원이 우리가 믿었을 때보다 더 가까이 있기 때문이라. | And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. |
| 12 | 밤이 많이 지나고 낮이 가까이 왔으니 그러므로 우리가 어둠의 행위를 벗어 버리고 빛의 갑옷을 입자. | The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. |
| 13 | 낮에 하듯이 우리가 정직하게 걸으며 흥청거리거나 술 취하지 말고 침실을 더럽히거나 방탕하지 말며 다투거나 시기하지 말자. | Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. |
| 14 | 오직 너희는 주 예수 그리스도로 옷 입고 육신의 정욕을 채우기 위해 육신에게 기회를 주지 말라. | But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. |
