1	하느님께서 아브람과 계약을 맺으시다 이런 일들이 있은 뒤에 야훼께서 아브람에게 환상으로 나타나시어 말씀하셨다. "무서워하지 말아라, 아브람아, 나는 방패가 되어 너를 지켜주며, 매우 큰 상을 너에게 내리리라."	After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
2	그러자 아브람이 말씀 드렸다. "야훼 나의 주여, 나는 자식이 없는 몸입니다. 가문의 대를 이을 사람이라고는 다마스쿠스 사람 엘리에젤밖에 없는데, 나에게 무엇을 주신다는 말씀입니까?	And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
3	나를 보십시오. 하느님께서는 나에게 자식 하나도 점지해 주지 않으셨습니다. 내 대를 이을 사람이라고는 내 집의 이 종밖에는 없지 않습니까?" 아브람이 이렇게 여쭙자,	And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
4	야훼께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. "네 대를 이을 사람은 그가 아니다. 장차 네 몸에서 날 네 친아들이 네 대를 이을 것이다."	And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
5	그리고는 그를 밖으로 데리고 나가시어 말씀하셨다. "하늘을 쳐다보아라. 셀 수 있거든 저 별들을 세어보아라. 네 자손이 저렇게 많이 불어날 것이다."	And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6	그가 야훼를 믿으니, 야훼께서 이를 갸륵하게 여기시어,	And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
7	이렇게 말씀하셨다. "나는 이 땅을 너에게 주어 차지하게 하려고 너를 갈대아 우르에서 이끌어낸 야훼다."	And he said unto him, I am the Lord that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
8	아브람이 "내가 이 땅을 차지하게 되리라는 것을 무엇으로 알 수가 있겠습니까?" 하고 묻자	And he said, Lord God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?
9	야훼께서 말씀하셨다. "삼 년 된 암소와 삼 년 된 암염소와 삼 년 된 숫양과 산비둘기, 집비둘기를 한 마리씩 나에게 바쳐라."	And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
10	그는 이 모든 것을 잡아다가 반으로 쪼개고 그 쪼갠 것을 짝을 맞추어 마주 놓았다. 그러나 날짐승만은 쪼개지 않았다.	And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.
11	솔개들이 그 잡아놓은 짐승들 위에 날아오면, 아브람은 이를 쫓고 있었다.	And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.
12	해 질 무렵, 아브람이 신비경에 빠져들어 심한 두려움에 사로잡혀 있는데,	And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.
13	야훼께서 그에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "똑똑히 알아두어라. 네 자손이 남의 나라에 가서 그들의 종이 되어 얹혀살며 사백 년 동안 압제를 받을 것이다.	And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14	그러나 네 자손을 부리던 민족을 나는 심판하리라. 그런 다음, 네 자손에게 많은 재물을 들려 거기에서 나오게 하리라.	And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
15	그러나 너는 네 명대로 살다가 고이 세상을 떠나 안장될 것이다.	And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
16	네 자손은 아모리족의 죄가 찰 만큼 찬 다음, 사 대만에야 돌아오게 될 것이다."	But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
17	해가 져서 캄캄해지자, 연기 뿜는 가마가 나타나고 활활 타는 횃불이 쪼개놓은 짐승들 사이로 지나가는 것이었다.	And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
18	그 날 야훼께서 아브람과 계약을 맺으시며 말씀하셨다. "나는 이집트 개울에서 큰 강 유프라테스에 이르는 이 땅을 네 후손에게 준다.	In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
19	이 곳은 켄족, 크니즈족, 카드몬족,	The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,
20	헷족, 브리즈족, 르바족,	And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,
21	아모리족, 가나안족, 기르갓족, 여부스족이 살고 있는 땅이다."	And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.
