1	롯이 분가하다 아브람은 모든 재물을 거두어가지고 아내와 함께 이집트에서 나와 네겝으로 올라갔다. 롯도 함께 올라갔다.	And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.
2	아브람은 가축과 은과 금을 많이 가진 큰 부자가 되었다.	And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.
3	아브람은 네겝에서 베델 쪽으로 옮겨가다가 전에 천막을 쳤던 베델과 아이 사이에 이르렀다.	And he went on his journeys from the south even to Beth–el, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth–el and Hai;
4	그 곳은 지난날 아브람이 제단을 쌓고 야훼의 이름을 불러 예배하던 곳이었다.	Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the Lord.
5	아브람을 따라다니는 롯도 양떼와 소떼를 비롯하여 천막도 여러 개 가지고 있었다.	And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.
6	그 지방은 그들이 함께 살 만한 곳이 못 되었다. 그들이 지닌 재산이 너무 많아서 도저히 함께 살 수가 없었던 것이다.	And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.
7	그래서 아브람의 목자들과 롯의 목자들 사이에 싸움이 잦았다. 그 때는 가나안 사람들과 브리즈 사람들이 그 땅에 살고 있던 때였다.	And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdmen of Lot’s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.
8	아브람이 롯에게 말하였다. "너와 나는 한 골육이 아니냐? 네 목자들과 내 목자들이 서로 다투어서야 되겠느냐?	And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.
9	네 앞에 얼마든지 땅이 있으니, 따로 나가서 살림을 차려라. 네가 왼쪽을 차지하면 나는 오른쪽을 가지겠고, 네가 오른쪽을 원하면 나는 왼쪽을 택하겠다."	Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
10	롯이 멀리 요르단 분지를 다 둘러보니, 소알에 이르기까지 마치 야훼의 동산같이, 이집트의 땅같이 물이 넉넉하였다. 그것은 야훼께서 소돔과 고모라를 멸하시기 전의 모습이었다.	And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
11	롯은 요르단 분지를 다 차지하기로 하고 그리로 옮겨갔다. 이렇게 하여 그들은 서로 헤어졌다.	Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.
12	아브람은 가나안 땅에 살았고, 롯은 요르단 분지에 있는 여러 도시에서 살다가 마침내 소돔으로 천막을 옮겼다.	Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.
13	그런데 소돔 사람들은 야훼께 못할 짓만 하는 아주 못된 사람들이었다.	But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly.
14	롯이 떠나간 다음 야훼께서 아브람에게 말씀하셨다. "고개를 들어 네가 있는 곳에서 동서남북을 둘러보아라.	And the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:
15	네 눈에 비치는 온 땅을 너와 네 자손에게 아주 주겠다.	For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
16	나는 네 자손을 땅의 티끌만큼 불어나게 하리라. 땅의 티끌을 셀 수 없듯이 네 자손도 셀 수 없게 될 것이다.	And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.
17	어서 이 땅을 두루 돌아보아라. 내가 이 땅을 너에게 주리라."	Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.
18	아브람은 천막을 거두어 헤브론에 있는 마므레의 상수리나무 있는 곳으로 가서 자리를 잡고 거기에서 제단을 쌓아 야훼께 바쳤다.	Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the Lord.
