절	공동번역 개정판 (1999)	King James Version
1	엘리바즈의 세 번째 충고 데만 사람 엘리바즈가 말을 받았다.	Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2	하느님께서 장사의 힘을 빌려야 하겠다는 말인가? 슬기로운 사람의 덕이라도 입으셔야겠다는 말인가?	Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
3	자네가 올바르게 산다고 하여 그것이 전능하신 분께 무슨 대단한 일이 되겠는가? 자네가 흠없이 산다고 하여 그것이 하느님께 무슨 유익이 되겠는가?	Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
4	하느님께서, 당신을 공경하였다고 해서 자네를 꾸짖으시고 재판에 붙이시는 것인가?	Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
5	자네가 저지른 죄는 너무나도 많아 이루 다 셀 수 없지 않은가?	Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
6	한 피 받은 동기의 재산을 마구 빼앗고 헐벗은 이의 옷을 벗기며	For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
7	기진맥진한 사람에게 물 한 모금 주지 아니하고 굶어 죽는 사람에게 먹을 것을 주지 않더니,	Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
8	주먹이 세다고 하여 땅을 차지하고는 세도가 있다고 하여 그 차지한 땅에서 거들먹거리면서	But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
9	과부를 알몸으로 쫓아내고 고아들의 팔을 꺾더니,	Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
10	그러고도 어찌 올가미를 벗어나며 갑자기 덮치는 무서운 일을 피할 수 있겠는가?	Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;
11	어둠이 밀려오면 앞이 캄캄해지고 홍수에 휘말리는 것도 그 때문이 아닌가?	Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.
12	하느님께서는 하늘 높이 계시어 아득히 높은 별들을 내려다보고 계시는 분,	Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
13	그런데 자네는 감히 비웃는구나. "하느님이 안다면 무엇을 알랴. 어둠에 싸여 있으면서 무슨 심판을 하랴!	And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?
14	구름에 가리워 아무것도 보지 못하며 하늘 가를 서성거리고 있으면서……"	Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
15	악인들이 가던 그 옛길, 자네는 아직도 그 길을 걸으려는가?	Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
16	그들은 때도 아닌데 덜미를 잡히고 삶의 터전을 강물에 떠내려 보냈다네.	Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
17	그들은 하느님께, "썩 비키시오. 전능하신 분이 우리를 어찌하겠다는 거요?" 하며 빈정거렸고	Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
18	하느님을 제쳐놓고 일을 꾸몄는데도 하느님께서는 그 악한들의 집을 좋은 것으로 채워주셨단 말일세.	Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19	그러나 의인은 그들이 망하는 것을 보고 기뻐하며 순진한 사람은 그들을 비웃게 될 것일세.	The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
20	"그들의 재산은 말끔히 없어지고 쓰다 남은 것은 불에 타버리는구나."	Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.
21	그러니, 이제 하느님과 화해하고 가까워지게나. 그리하면 정녕 복이 돌아오리니,	Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
22	그의 입에서 나오는 가르침을 받고 그의 말씀을 속 깊이 새겨두게.	Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
23	겸손하게 전능하신 분께 돌아오고 장막에서 온갖 거짓을 몰아내게.	If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
24	금을 땅에 내버리고 오빌의 정금을 냇가의 돌틈에 버린다면,	Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
25	전능하신 분께서 금처럼 귀중하게 보이고 순은처럼 빛나 보일 것일세.	Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.
26	전능하신 분께서 자네의 즐거움이 되어 하느님께 얼굴을 쳐들게 될 것일세.	For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
27	그에게 빌면 정녕 들어주시리니 자네는 서원한 대로 바칠 수 있게 될 것일세.	Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
28	마음먹은 일은 무엇이든지 다 이루어지고 앞길은 환하게 빛날 것일세.	Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
29	하느님께서는 거만한 자를 누르시고 겸손한 자를 도와주신다네.	When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
30	그는 무죄한 사람을 풀어놓으시는 분, 그러니 자네도 손만 깨끗하다면 풀려날 것이 아닌가?	He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
