절	공동번역 개정판 (1999)	King James Version
1	믿지 않는 예수의 형제들 그 뒤에 예수께서는 유다인들이 자기를 죽이려고 했으므로 유다 지방으로는 다니고 싶지 않아서 갈릴래아 지방을 찾아다니셨다.	After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
2	그런데 유다인들의 명절인 초막절이 가까워지자	Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand.
3	예수의 형제들이 예수께 "이 곳을 떠나 유다로 가서 당신이 행하시는 그 훌륭한 일들을 제자들에게 보이십시오.	His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
4	널리 알려지려면 숨어서 일해서는 안 됩니다. 이런 훌륭한 일들을 할 바에는 자신을 세상에 드러내는 것이 좋겠습니다." 하고 권하였다.	For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.
5	이렇듯 예수의 형제들조차도 그분을 믿지 않았던 것이다.	For neither did his brethren believe in him.
6	그래서 예수께서는 그들에게 이렇게 대답하셨다. "너희에게는 아무 때나 상관없지만 나의 때는 아직 오지 않았다.	Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.
7	세상이 너희는 미워할 수 없지만 나는 미워하고 있다. 세상이 하는 짓이 악해서 내가 그것을 들추어내기 때문이다.	The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
8	너희는 어서 올라가서 명절을 지내라. 아직 나의 때가 되지 않았으니 나는 이번 명절에는 올라가지 않겠다."	Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.
9	예수께서는 형제들에게 이렇게 말씀하시고 계속하여 갈릴래아에 머무르셨다.	When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.
10	초막절 명절에 올라가신 예수 형제들이 명절을 지내러 올라가고 난 뒤에 예수께서도 남의 눈에 띄지 않게 올라가셨다.	But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
11	명절 동안에 유다인들은 "예수가 어디 있느냐?" 하고 물으며 찾아다녔다.	Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
12	그리고 군중 사이에서는 예수를 두고 이러쿵저러쿵 말들이 많았다. "그는 좋은 분이오." 하는 사람이 있는가 하면, "아니오, 그는 군중을 속이고 있소." 하는 사람도 있었다.	And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
13	그러나 유다인들이 두려워서 예수에 관하여 내놓고 말하는 사람은 하나도 없었다.	Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.
14	명절 중간쯤 해서 예수께서는 성전으로 올라가 가르치기 시작하셨다.	Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.
15	유다인들은 "저 사람은 배우지도 않았는데 어떻게 저렇듯 아는 것이 많을까?" 하고 기이하게 여겼다.	And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
16	예수께서는 그들에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "내가 가르치는 것은 내 것이 아니라 나를 보내신 분의 가르침이다.	Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
17	하느님의 뜻을 실천하려는 사람이면 이것이 하느님으로부터 나온 가르침인지 또는 내 생각에서 나온 가르침인지를 알 것이다.	If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
18	제 생각대로 말하는 사람은 자기 영광을 구하는 사람이다. 그러나 자기를 보내신 분의 영광을 위해서 힘쓰는 사람은 정직하며 그 속에 거짓이 없다.	He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
19	너희에게 율법을 제정해 준 이는 모세가 아니냐? 그런데도 너희 가운데 그 법을 지키는 사람은 하나도 없다. 도대체 너희는 어찌하여 나를 죽이려 하느냐?"	Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?
20	군중들은 "당신이 미치지 않았소? 누가 당신을 죽이려 한단 말이오?" 하였다.	The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?
21	예수께서는 이렇게 대답하셨다. "내가 안식일에 일을 한 가지 했다고 하여 너희는 모두 놀라고 있다.	Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.
22	모세가 할례법을 명령했다 하여 너희는 안식일에도 사내아이들에게 할례를 베풀고 있다. - 사실 할례법은 모세가 정한 것이 아니라 옛 선조에게서 비롯된 것이다.-	Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.
23	너희는 이렇게 모세의 율법을 어기지 않으려고 안식일에도 할례를 베풀면서 내가 안식일에 사람 하나를 온전히 고쳐주었다고 하여 그렇게 화를 내는 것이냐?	If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?
24	겉모양을 보고 판단하지 말고 공정하게 판단하여라."	Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
25	이분이 그리스도인가? 한편 예루살렘 사람들 중에서 더러는 "유다인들이 죽이려고 찾는 사람이 바로 이 사람이 아닌가?	Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
26	저렇게 대중 앞에서 거침없이 말하고 있는데도 말 한마디 못하는 것을 보면 혹시 우리 지도자들이 그를 정말 그리스도로 아는 것이 아닐까?	But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
27	그러나 그리스도가 오실 때에는 어디서 오시는지 아무도 모를 터인데 우리는 이 사람이 어디에서 왔는지 다 알고 있지 않은가?" 하고 말하였다.	Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.
28	그 때 예수께서는 성전에서 가르치시면서 큰소리로 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "너희는 나를 알고 있으며 내가 어디에서 왔는지도 알고 있다. 그러나 나는 내 마음대로 온 것이 아니다. 나를 보내신 분은 정녕 따로 계신다. 너희는 그분을 모르지만	Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
29	나는 알고 있다. 나는 그분에게서 왔고 그분은 나를 보내셨다."	But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.
30	그러자 그들은 예수를 잡고 싶었으나 그에게 손을 대는 사람은 하나도 없었다. 예수의 때가 아직 이르지 않았던 것이다.	Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
31	그러나 군중 가운데는 "그리스도가 정말 온다 해도 이분보다 더 많은 기적을 보여줄 수 있겠는가?" 하며 예수를 믿는 사람이 많았다.	And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?
32	보내신 분에게 돌아가리라 사람들이 예수를 두고 이렇게 수군거리는 소리를 바리사이파 사람들이 들었다. 그래서 그들과 사제들은 예수를 잡아오라고 성전 경비병들을 보냈다.	The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
33	그 때 예수께서는 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "내가 아직 얼마 동안은 너희와 같이 있겠지만 결국 나를 보내신 분에게 돌아가야 한다.	Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
34	너희는 나를 찾아다녀도 찾지 못할 것이다. 내가 가 있는 곳에는 올 수가 없다."	Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.
35	유다인들은 이 말씀을 듣고 "우리가 자기를 찾아내지 못하리라고 하는데 도대체 어디로 가겠다는 말인가? 이방인들 사이에 흩어져 사는 유다인들에게 가서 이방인들을 가르칠 셈인가?	Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
36	우리가 자기를 찾아도 찾아내지 못한다느니 또는 자기가 있는 곳에는 올 수 없다느니 하는 말은 대관절 무슨 뜻일까?" 하고 수군거렸다.	What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?
37	목마른 사람은 내게로 오라 그 명절의 고비가 되는 마지막 날에 예수께서는 일어서서 이렇게 외치셨다. "목마른 사람은 다 나에게 와서 마셔라.	In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38	나를 믿는 사람은 성서의 말씀대로 그 속에서 샘솟는 물이 강물처럼 흘러 나올 것이다."	He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39	이것은 예수께서 당신을 믿는 사람들이 받을 성령을 가리켜 하신 말씀이었다. 그 때는 예수께서 영광을 받지 않으셨기 때문에 성령이 아직 사람들에게 와 계시지 않으셨던 것이다.	(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
40	그리스도에 관한 구구한 생각 이 말씀을 들은 사람들 중에는 "저분은 분명히 그 예언자이시다."	Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
41	또는 "저분은 그리스도이시다." 하고 말하는 사람들이 있는가 하면 어떤 사람들은 "그리스도가 갈릴래아에서 나올 리가 있겠는가?	Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
42	성서에도 그리스도는 다윗의 자손으로 다윗이 살던 동네 베들레헴에서 태어나리라고 하지 않았느냐?" 하고 말했다.	Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
43	이렇게 군중은 예수 때문에 서로 갈라졌다.	So there was a division among the people because of him.
44	몇 사람은 예수를 잡아가고 싶어하였지만 예수께 손을 대는 사람은 하나도 없었다.	And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
45	유다 지도자들의 논란 성전 경비병들이 그대로 돌아온 것을 보고 대사제들과 바리사이파 사람들은 "어찌하여 그를 잡아오지 않았느냐?" 하고 물었다.	Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
46	경비병들은 "저희는 이제까지 그분처럼 말하는 사람은 본 적이 없습니다." 하고 대답하였다.	The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
47	이 말을 들은 바리사이파 사람들은 "너희마저 속아 넘어갔느냐?	Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?
48	우리 지도자들이나 바리사이파 사람들 중에 단 한 사람이라도 그를 믿는 사람을 보았느냐?	Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
49	도대체 율법도 모르는 이 따위 무리는 저주받을 족속이다." 하고 말하였다.	But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.
50	그 자리에는 전에 예수를 찾아왔던 니고데모도 끼여 있었는데 그는	Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)
51	"도대체 우리 율법에 먼저 그 사람의 말을 들어보거나 그가 한 일을 알아보지도 않고 죄인으로 단정하는 법이 어디 있소?" 하고 한마디 하였다.	Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
52	그러자 그들은 "당신도 갈릴래아 사람이란 말이오? 성서를 샅샅이 뒤져보시오. 갈릴래아에서 예언자가 나온다는 말은 없소." 하고 핀잔을 주었다.	They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
53	간음한 여자 (그리고 나서 사람들은 모두 집으로 돌아갔고	And every man went unto his own house.
