1	말씀이 사람이 되시다 한처음, 천지가 창조되기 전부터 말씀이 계셨다. 말씀은 하느님과 함께 계셨고 하느님과 똑같은 분이셨다.	In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2	말씀은 한처음 천지가 창조되기 전부터 하느님과 함께 계셨다.	The same was in the beginning with God.
3	모든 것은 말씀을 통하여 생겨났고 이 말씀 없이 생겨난 것은 하나도 없다. 생겨난 모든 것이	All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4	그에게서 생명을 얻었으며 그 생명은 사람들의 빛이었다.	In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5	그 빛이 어둠 속에서 비치고 있다. 그러나 어둠이 빛을 이겨본 적이 없다.	And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6	하느님께서 보내신 사람이 있었는데 그의 이름은 요한이었다.	There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7	그는 그 빛을 증언하러 왔다. 모든 사람으로 하여금 자기 증언을 듣고 믿게 하려고 온 것이다.	The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8	그는 빛이 아니라 다만 그 빛을 증언하러 왔을 따름이다.	He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9	말씀이 곧 참 빛이었다. 그 빛이 이 세상에 와서 모든 사람을 비추고 있었다.	That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10	말씀이 세상에 계셨고 세상이 이 말씀을 통하여 생겨났는데도 세상은 그분을 알아보지 못하였다.	He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11	그분이 자기 나라에 오셨지만 백성들은 그분을 맞아주지 않았다.	He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12	그러나 그분을 맞아들이고 믿는 사람들에게는 하느님의 자녀가 되는 특권을 주셨다.	But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13	그들은 혈육으로나 육정으로나 사람의 욕망으로 난 것이 아니라 하느님에게서 난 것이다.	Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14	말씀이 사람이 되셔서 우리와 함께 계셨는데 우리는 그분의 영광을 보았다. 그것은 외아들이 아버지에게서 받은 영광이었다. 그분에게는 은총과 진리가 충만하였다.	And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15	요한은 그분을 증언하여 외치기를 "그분은 내 뒤에 오시지만 사실은 내가 나기 전부터 계셨기 때문에, 나보다 앞서신 분이라고 말한 것은 바로 이분을 두고 한 말이다." 하였다.	John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16	우리는 모두 그분에게서 넘치는 은총을 받고 또 받았다.	And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17	모세에게서는 율법을 받았지만 예수 그리스도에게서는 은총과 진리를 받았다.	For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
18	일찍이 하느님을 본 사람은 없다. 그런데 아버지의 품 안에 계신 외아들로서 하느님과 똑같으신 그분이 하느님을 알려주셨다. (; ; )	No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
19	세례자 요한의 증언 유다인들이 예루살렘에서 대사제들과 레위 지파 사람들을 요한에게 보내어 그가 누구인지 알아보게 하였다. 이 때 요한은 이렇게 증언하였다.	And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?
20	"나는 그리스도가 아니오." 그는 조금도 숨기지 않고 분명히 말해 주었다.	And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
21	그들이 "그러면 누구란 말이오? 엘리야요?" 하고 다시 묻자 요한은 또 아니라고 대답하였다. "그러면 우리가 기다리던 그 예언자요?" 그들이 다시 물었을 때 요한은 그도 아니라고 하였다.	And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.
22	"우리를 보낸 사람들에게 대답해 줄 말이 있어야 하겠으니 당신이 누군지 좀 알려주시오. 당신은 자신을 누구라고 생각하고 있소?" 이렇게 다그쳐 묻자	Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
23	요한은 그제야 "나는 예언자 이사야의 말대로 '주님의 길을 곧게 하여라.' 하며 광야에서 외치는 이의 소리요." 하고 대답하였다.	He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.
24	그들은 바리사이파에서 보낸 사람들이었다.	And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
25	그들은 또 요한에게 "당신이 그리스도도 아니요 엘리야도 아니요 그 예언자도 아니라면 어찌하여 세례를 베푸는 거요?" 하고 물었다.	And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?
26	요한은 이렇게 대답하였다. "나는 다만 물로 세례를 베풀 따름이오. 그런데 당신들이 알지 못하는 사람 한 분이 당신들 가운데 서 계십니다.	John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
27	이분은 내 뒤에 오시는 분이지만 나는 이분의 신발 끈을 풀어드릴 만한 자격조차 없는 몸이오."	He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
28	이것은 요한이 세례를 베풀던 요르단 강 건너편 베다니아에서 일어난 일이었다.	These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29	하느님의 어린 양 다음날 요한은 예수께서 자기한테 오시는 것을 보고 이렇게 말하였다. "이 세상의 죄를 없애시는 하느님의 어린 양이 저기 오신다.	The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
30	내가 전에 내 뒤에 오시는 분이 한 분 계신데 그분은 사실은 내가 태어나기 전부터 계셨기 때문에 나보다 앞서신 분이라고 말한 것은 바로 이분을 두고 한 말이었다.	This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
31	나도 이분이 누구신지 몰랐다. 그러나 내가 와서 물로 세례를 베푼 것은 이분을 이스라엘에게 알리려는 것이었다."	And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
32	요한은 또 증언하였다. "나는 성령이 하늘에서 비둘기 모양으로 내려와 이분 위에 머무르는 것을 보았다.	And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
33	나는 이분이 누구신지 몰랐다. 그러나 물로 세례를 베풀라고 나를 보내신 분이 '성령이 내려와서 어떤 사람 위에 머무르는 것을 보거든 그가 바로 성령으로 세례를 베푸실 분인 줄 알아라.' 하고 말씀해 주셨다.	And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
34	과연 나는 그 광경을 보았다. 그래서 나는 지금 이분이 하느님의 아드님이시라고 증언하는 것이다." (; ; )	And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
35	예수의 첫 번째 제자들 다음날 요한이 자기 제자 두 사람과 함께 다시 그 곳에 서 있다가	Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
36	마침 예수께서 걸어가시는 것을 보고 "하느님의 어린 양이 저기 가신다." 하고 말하였다.	And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
37	그 두 제자는 요한의 말을 듣고 예수를 따라갔다.	And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38	예수께서는 뒤돌아 서서 그들이 따라오는 것을 보시고 "너희가 바라는 것이 무엇이냐?" 하고 물으셨다. 그들은 "라삐, 묵고 계시는 데가 어딘지 알고 싶습니다." 하고 말하였다. (라삐는 선생님이라는 뜻이다.)	Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?
39	예수께서 와서 보라고 하시자 그들은 따라가서 예수께서 계시는 곳을 보고 그 날은 거기에서 예수와 함께 지냈다. 때는 네 시쯤이었다.	He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
40	요한의 말을 듣고 예수를 따라간 두 사람 중의 하나는 시몬 베드로의 동생 안드레아였다.	One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
41	그는 먼저 자기 형 시몬을 찾아가 "우리가 찾던 메시아를 만났소." 하고 말하였다. (메시아는 그리스도라는 뜻이다.)	He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
42	그리고 시몬을 예수께 데리고 가자 예수께서 시몬을 눈여겨보시며 "너는 요한의 아들 시몬이 아니냐? 앞으로는 너를 게파라 부르겠다." 하고 말씀하셨다. (게파는 베드로 곧 바위라는 뜻이다.)	And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
43	필립보와 나타나엘을 부르시다 그 이튿날 예수께서 갈릴래아로 떠나가시려던 참에 필립보를 만나 "나를 따라오너라." 하고 부르셨다.	The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.
44	필립보는 베싸이다 출신으로 안드레아와 베드로와 한 고향 사람이다.	Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45	그가 나타나엘을 찾아가서 "우리는 모세의 율법서와 예언자들의 글에 기록되어 있는 분을 만났소. 그분은 요셉의 아들 예수인데 나자렛 사람이오." 하고 말하였다.	Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
46	그러나 그는 "나자렛에서 무슨 신통한 것이 나올 수 있겠소?" 하고 물었다. 그래서 필립보는 나타나엘에게 와서 보라고 권하였다.	And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.
47	예수께서는 나타나엘이 가까이 오는 것을 보시고 "이 사람이야말로 정말 이스라엘 사람이다. 그에게는 거짓이 조금도 없다." 하고 말씀하셨다.	Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
48	나타나엘이 예수께 "어떻게 저를 아십니까?" 하고 물었다. "필립보가 너를 찾아가기 전에 네가 무화과나무 아래 있는 것을 보았다." 예수께서 이렇게 대답하시자	Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
49	나타나엘은 "선생님, 선생님은 하느님의 아들이시며 이스라엘의 왕이십니다." 하고 말하였다.	Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
50	예수께서는 "네가 무화과나무 아래 있는 것을 보았다고 해서 나를 믿느냐? 앞으로는 그보다 더 큰 일을 보게 될 것이다." 하시고	Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.
51	"정말 잘 들어두어라. 너희는 하늘이 열려 있는 것과 하느님의 천사들이 하늘과 사람의 아들 사이를 오르내리는 것을 보게 될 것이다." 하고 말씀하셨다.	And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
