1	솔로몬은 유프라테스로부터 불레셋 땅을 지나 이집트 국경에 이르는 지역 안의 모든 왕국을 지배하였다. 그들은 솔로몬이 살아 있는 동안 조공을 바치며 섬겼다.	And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.
2	솔로몬의 하루 양곡은 고운 밀가루 삼십 섬, 거친 밀가루 육십 섬,	And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,
3	기름진 소 열 마리, 목장 소 스무 마리, 양 백 마리였고 그 밖에 수사슴, 산양, 수노루, 날짐승이 있었다.	Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.
4	그는 딥사에서 가자에 이르기까지 유프라테스 서쪽 전지역을 다스려 사방으로 평화를 유지하였다.	But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.
5	이렇게 솔로몬이 다스리는 동안, 유다와 이스라엘은 단에서 브엘세바에 이르기까지 마음놓고 살면서 저마다 자기의 포도나무와 무화과나무 아래에서 두 발 뻗고 잘 수 있었다.	And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.
6	솔로몬에게는 병거를 끄는 말을 둘 마굿간이 사천 간 있었고 말이 만 이천 마리 있었다.	Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.
7	그리고 이들 관리들이 솔로몬 왕과 솔로몬 왕의 식탁에 참석하는 이들을 위하여 각기 한 달씩 부족함이 없게 양곡을 대었다.	And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the Lord this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.
8	그들은 또 병거 끄는 말과 짐 나르는 짐승들이 먹을 보리와 밀짚을 지정한 곳으로 가져왔다.	And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.
9	솔로몬의 명성 더구나 하느님께서 솔로몬에게 지혜와 슬기를 한없이 주셨으므로 그의 박식하기가 바다의 모래 벌판 같았다.	My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.
10	솔로몬의 지혜는 동방의 어떤 사람도 따를 수 없었고 지혜 있다는 이집트의 누구도 따를 수 없었다.	So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire.
11	그는 에즈라 사람 에단이나 마홀의 아들 헤만, 갈골, 다르다보다도 지혜가 더하여 그의 명성은 모든 나라에 떨쳤다.	And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.
12	그는 삼천 가지 잠언을 지었고 그의 노래는 천다섯 편에 달하였다.	And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
13	그는 레바논에 있는 삼나무로부터 성벽에 자라는 우슬초에 이르기까지 모든 초목을 논할 수 있었으며 야수나 날짐승이나 기는 짐승이나 물고기를 모두 논하였다.	And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.
14	그리하여 모든 민족으로부터 사람들은 솔로몬의 지혜를 들으러 왔고 그의 지혜의 소식을 들은 세상의 모든 왕들이 또한 그리하였다.	And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy.
15	솔로몬이 성전 건축을 준비하다 띠로 왕 히람은 솔로몬이 다윗 대신 왕이 되었다는 소식을 듣고 평상시에도 다윗을 좋아했던 터이라 솔로몬에게 신하들을 보냈다.	And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains;
16	그러자 솔로몬은 히람에게 사람을 보내어 대답하였다.	Beside the chief of Solomon’s officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.
17	"당신께서도 아시다시피 내 부친 다윗은 그분의 하느님 야훼께 성전을 지어 바치지 못하셨습니다. 야훼께서 그들을 부친의 발밑에 밟히게 하시기까지 사방에 있는 원수들과 전쟁을 하셔야 했기 때문입니다.	And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.
18	그러나 이제 나를 지키시는 하느님 야훼께서는 밖으로 외적을 물리쳐 평온하게 하시고 안으로는 변란을 일으킬 세력을 없애셨습니다.	And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders did hew them, and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.
19	나는 나를 지키시는 하느님 야훼께 성전을 지어 바치고자 합니다. 야훼께서 내 부친 다윗에게 약속하시기를 '네 뒤를 이어 네 왕좌에 앉힐 너의 아들로 하여금 나의 전을 짓게 하리라.' 하셨던 것입니다.	—
20	그러니 레바논의 송백나무를 베어주십시오. 내 신하들이 당신의 신하와 힘을 합할 것입니다. 당신의 신하들에게는 당신이 정하는 급료를 지불해 드리겠습니다. 당신께서도 아시다시피 우리 가운데는 시돈 사람처럼 나무를 자를 줄 아는 사람이 없습니다."	—
21	히람은 솔로몬의 전갈을 듣고 매우 흡족하였다. "오늘 야훼께 찬양을 드려라. 그가 이렇듯이 다윗에게 슬기로운 아들을 주시어 그 큰 백성을 다스리게 하셨구나."	—
22	그리고 히람은 솔로몬에게 회신을 보내었다. "당신이 보낸 전갈을 받았소. 청하신 송백이며 전나무 건은 쾌히 허락합니다.	—
23	나의 신하들이 목재를 레바논에서 바다로 날라다가 뗏목을 만들어 바다로 해서 당신이 지시하는 장소에 옮길 것이오. 거기에서 뗏목을 풀면 곧 인수하십시오. 그리고 그 값으로 내가 청하는 것은 나의 왕실이 쓸 양식이니 그것을 대주면 됩니다."	—
24	이렇게 해서 히람은 솔로몬이 요구한 대로 송백나무와 전나무를 제공하였다.	—
25	그리고 솔로몬은 히람 왕실의 양식으로 밀 이만 섬과 찐기름 이십 섬을 공급하였다. 솔로몬은 해마다 이만큼씩 히람에게 보냈다.	—
26	야훼께서 약속하신 대로 솔로몬에게 은총을 내려주시어, 히람과 솔로몬 사이는 평화로웠고 그 둘은 조약을 맺었다.	—
27	솔로몬은 이스라엘 전국에 근로소집령을 내렸다. 소집에 응한 자는 삼만 명이었다.	—
28	그는 그들을 레바논으로 보내어 만 명이 한 달씩 번갈아 일하게 하였다. 그들은 레바논에서 한 달, 본국에서 두 달을 보내었다. 아도니람이 이 부역 책임자였다.	—
29	솔로몬은 또 짐 나르는 사람 칠만과 돌깨는 사람 팔만을 산악 지대에 두었는데	—
30	그 외에도 일을 감독하는 솔로몬의 고급 관리 삼천삼백 명이 있었다.	—
31	그들은 어명을 따라 돌을 새겨 신전의 기초를 놓으려고 크고 값진 돌들을 다듬었다.	—
32	이렇게 솔로몬과 히람의 건축자들과 그발 사람들이 신전 지을 재목과 돌을 다듬어 마련하였다.	—
