1	여로보암의 운명 그 때 여로보암의 아들 아비야가 병들어 눕게 되자	At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick.
2	여로보암 왕이 왕비에게 말하였다. "자, 이렇게 해봅시다. 당신은 왕비임을 몰라보게 몸을 변장하고 실로로 가시오. 그 곳에는 아히야라는 예언자가 살고 있소. 그 예언자는 내가 이 백성의 왕이 될 것이라고 일러주던 바로 그 사람이오.	And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh: behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, which told me that I should be king over this people.
3	빵 여남은 개와 과자 약간, 그리고 꿀 한 단지를 가지고 그에게 가서 물어보시오. 왕자가 나을지 낫지 못할지를 그가 말해 줄 것이오."	And take with thee ten loaves, and cracknels, and a cruse of honey, and go to him: he shall tell thee what shall become of the child.
4	여로보암의 아내는 그의 말대로 출발을 서둘러 실로에 있는 예언자 아히야의 집에 이르렀다. 그런데 아히야는 이미 늙었으므로 눈이 어두워 잘 보지 못하였다.	And Jeroboam’s wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. But Ahijah could not see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age.
5	야훼께서 아히야에게 미리 일러주셨다. "여로보암의 아내가 병든 제 아들의 병이 어떻게 될지 너에게 물으러 올 것이다. 오거든 이러이러하게 대답하여라. 여로보암의 아내는 신분을 감추고 딴 여자처럼 가장하고 오리라."	And the Lord said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall feign herself to be another woman.
6	아히야는 그 여자가 방문 앞으로 다가서는 발소리를 듣고 이렇게 말하였다. "여로보암의 아내여, 들어오시오. 어찌하여 이렇게 다른 여자인 양 가장하고 오셨소? 나는 당신에게 가슴 아픈 말을 전해야겠소.	And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.
7	여로보암에게 가서 말하시오. 이스라엘의 하느님 야훼께서 이렇게 말씀하십니다. '내가 너를 백성 가운데서 뽑아 내 백성 이스라엘을 다스리는 영도자로 임명했으며	Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted thee from among the people, and made thee prince over my people Israel,
8	다윗의 왕가에서 나라를 갈라 너에게 주었다. 그러나 너는 나의 종 다윗만하지 못하였다. 다윗은 나의 계명을 준수하였을 뿐만 아니라 마음을 다하여 나를 따랐으며 만사를 내 마음에 꼭 들도록 올바르게 처리하였다.	And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;
9	그러나 너는 선왕들보다 더 큰 악을 저질렀을 뿐 아니라 우상들을 쇠붙이로 부어 만들었고 다른 신을 섬겼다. 그리하여 마침내 나를 배반하여 내 속을 썩였다.	But hast done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:
10	그러므로 이제 내가 여로보암 왕가에 재난을 내리리라. 여로보암 가문에 속한 남자는 자유인이든 종이든 가리지 아니하고 모두 씨도 남기지 아니하리라. 그리하여 사람들이 똥을 치듯이 나는 여로보암 가문을 이 이스라엘에서 남김없이 쓸어버리리라.	Therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man taketh away dung, till it be all gone.
11	무릇 여로보암 가문에 속한 사람이 성 안에서 죽으면 그 시체를 개가 뜯어먹을 것이요, 성 밖에서 죽으면 공중의 새가 쪼아먹으리라. 야훼의 말이니 어김이 없다.'	Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat: for the Lord hath spoken it.
12	이제 집으로 돌아가시오. 당신이 궁에 도착하면 곧 왕자는 죽을 것이오.	Arise thou therefore, get thee to thine own house: and when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die.
13	그래도 그 아이만은 모든 이스라엘 백성들이 슬퍼하며 매장할 터인데 여로보암 가문에서 그만이 무덤에 묻힐 것이오. 그래도 그만은 이스라엘의 하느님 야훼께서 보시기에 옳게 살았기 때문이오.	And all Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him: for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward the Lord God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam.
14	그리고 나서 야훼께서는 이스라엘을 다스릴 새 왕을 뽑으시어 여로보암 가문을 멸종시킬 것입니다.	Moreover the Lord shall raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam that day: but what? even now.
15	야훼께서 이스라엘을 치실 때는 마치 급류에 휩쓸린 갈대처럼 흔들리게 하실 것이오. 야훼께서 그들 선조들에게 주신 이 좋은 땅에서 송두리째 뽑아 내쫓으실 것이고, 유프라테스 강 저편으로 흩어버리실 것입니다. 이스라엘이 목신을 만들어 야훼의 분노를 샀기 때문이오.	For the Lord shall smite Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water, and he shall root up Israel out of this good land, which he gave to their fathers, and shall scatter them beyond the river, because they have made their groves, provoking the Lord to anger.
16	여로보암 왕은 자기 혼자만이 이 죄를 지은 것이 아니고 이스라엘 백성들까지도 같은 죄를 짓게 하였습니다. 야훼께서는 이 여로보암의 죄 때문에 이스라엘을 버리실 것이오."	And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.
17	여로보암의 아내는 말을 다 듣고 일어나서 그 곳을 떠나 디르사로 돌아왔다. 궁전 문을 막 들어서는데 왕자가 숨을 거두었다.	And Jeroboam’s wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah: and when she came to the threshold of the door, the child died;
18	이스라엘 백성은 죽은 왕자를 장사지내고 그의 죽음을 슬퍼하였다. 야훼께서 당신의 종인 예언자 아히야를 시켜 말씀하신 그대로였다.	And they buried him; and all Israel mourned for him, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by the hand of his servant Ahijah the prophet.
19	여로보암의 나머지 행적, 치적 및 그가 치른 전쟁에 관하여는 이스라엘 왕조실록에 모두 기록되어 있다.	And the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.
20	여로보암은 이십이 년간 통치한 후 열조와 함께 잠들었다. 왕자 나답이 그의 왕위를 계승하였다.	And the days which Jeroboam reigned were two and twenty years: and he slept with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his stead.
21	르호보암의 유다 통치 한편 유다는 솔로몬의 아들 르호보암 왕이 다스리고 있었다. 르호보암은 사십일 세에 왕이 되어 야훼께서 모든 이스라엘 지파 가운데서 따로 선택하여 당신 것으로 삼으신 도성, 예루살렘에서 십칠 년간 다스렸다. 그의 어머니는 나아마라는 암몬 여자였다.	And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
22	유다 백성도 역시 야훼께서 보시기에 악한 일을 저질렀다. 선조들보다도 더 큰 죄를 범하여 야훼께 미움을 샀다.	And Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done.
23	그들 역시 높은 언덕과 우거진 나무 아래마다 산당을 짓고 거기에다 돌로 남신을 만들고 나무로 여신을 만들어 세웠다.	For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.
24	게다가 전국 곳곳에 남창이 우글거렸다. 이스라엘 백성은 야훼께서 자기들 면전에서 쫓아내신 원주민들의 온갖 추악한 폐습을 이렇게 본받았던 것이다.	And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel.
25	르호보암 왕 제오년에 이집트의 시삭 왕이 예루살렘을 침공하여	And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem:
26	야훼의 전과 왕궁의 모든 보물을 샅샅이 뒤져 모두 가져갔다. 그는 솔로몬이 만든 금방패를 포함하여 모든 값진 것을 가져갔다.	And he took away the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king’s house; he even took away all: and he took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
27	르호보암 왕은 금방패 대신 놋방패를 만들어 왕궁을 경비하는 친위대 장교들을 무장시켰다.	And king Rehoboam made in their stead brasen shields, and committed them unto the hands of the chief of the guard, which kept the door of the king’s house.
28	왕이 야훼의 전에 출입할 때마다 친위대원들은 그 놋방패를 들고 섰다가 다시 친위대실로 가져다 두곤 하였다.	And it was so, when the king went into the house of the Lord, that the guard bare them, and brought them back into the guard chamber.
29	르호보암의 나머지 행적과 치적은 유다 왕조실록에 모두 기록되어 있다.	Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
30	르호보암과 여로보암 사이에는 그들이 살아 있는 동안 전쟁이 그칠 사이가 없었다.	And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all their days.
31	르호보암은 세상을 떠나 다윗 성 안의 왕실 묘지에 안장되었다. 그의 아들 아비얌이 왕위를 계승하였다.	And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess. And Abijam his son reigned in his stead.
