1	여호수아가 기브온을 건지다 예루살렘 왕 아도니세덱은 여호수아가 아이에 쳐들어가 그 성을 말끔히 쓸어버렸다는 소식을 들었다. 예리고와 그 왕을 해치웠듯이 아이와 그 왕도 해치웠다는 것과 기브온 주민이 이스라엘과 우호 관계를 맺고 같이 어울리게 되었다는 소식을 듣고	Now it came to pass, when Adoni–zedek king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;
2	그는 아주 겁에 질렸다. 기브온은 일국의 수도가 되고도 남을 큰 도시였다. 아이보다 큰 도시인데다가 거기에 사는 남자들은 모두 힘깨나 쓰는 사람들이었다.	That they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.
3	예루살렘 왕 아도니세덱은 헤브론 왕 호함과 야르뭇 왕 비르암과 라기스 왕 야비아와 에글론 왕 드빌에게 전갈을 보냈다.	Wherefore Adoni–zedek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,
4	"나에게 와주십시오. 나와 힘을 모아 기브온을 칩시다. 기브온이 여호수아와 이스라엘 사람들과 우호 관계를 맺었습니다."	Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.
5	이리하여 예루살렘 왕과 헤브론 왕과 야르뭇 왕과 라기스 왕과 에글론 왕, 이렇게 다섯 아모리 왕은 전군을 동원시켜 기브온과 대진하고 공격을 개시하였다.	Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.
6	기브온 사람들은 길갈 진지로 여호수아에게 전갈을 보냈다. "소인들을 버리지 말아주십시오. 어서 올라와 주십시오. 우리를 도와 건져주십시오. 산악 지대에 사는 아모리 왕들이 모두 동맹을 맺고 우리를 치러왔습니다."	And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.
7	여호수아는 전군을 동원하여 길갈을 떠나 올라갔다. 날쌘 용사들은 모두 함께 올라갔다.	So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valour.
8	야훼께서 여호수아에게 이르셨다. "저자들을 두려워 마라. 내가 이미 그들을 네 손에 부쳤다. 그들 가운데는 아무도 너와 맞설 자가 없으리라."	And the Lord said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.
9	여호수아는 길갈을 떠나 밤새도록 진군해 가서 그들을 기습하였다.	Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.
10	야훼께서는 그들을 기브온에서 호되게 치시어 혼비백산 이스라엘 앞에서 도망치게 하시고 아제카와 막케다까지 벳호론 비탈을 타고 쫓아가며 치셨다.	And the Lord discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Beth–horon, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.
11	그들이 이스라엘에게 쫓겨 벳호론 비탈을 타고 아제카까지 달아나는데 야훼께서는 하늘에서 주먹 같은 우박을 쏟아 그들을 죽이셨다. 이스라엘 백성의 칼에 죽은 사람보다 우박에 맞아 죽은 사람들이 더 많았다.	And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Beth–horon, that the Lord cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.
12	그 때, 야훼께서 아모리 사람들을 이스라엘 백성에게 부치시던 날, 여호수아는 이스라엘이 보는 앞에서 야훼께 외쳤다. "해야, 기브온 위에 머물러라. 달아, 너도 아얄론 골짜기에 멈추어라."	Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
13	그러자 원수들에게 복수하기를 마칠 때까지 해가 머물렀고 달이 멈추어 섰다. 이 사실은 야살의 책에 기록되어 있지 않는가? 해는 중천에 멈추어 하루를 꼬박 움직이려고 하지 않았다.	And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
14	야훼께서 이렇게 사람의 소리를 들어주신 날은 전에도 없었고 후에도 없었다. 야훼께서 이스라엘 편에 서서 싸우셨던 것이다.	And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the Lord hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the Lord fought for Israel.
15	여호수아는 온 이스라엘을 이끌고 길갈 진지로 돌아왔다.	And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.
16	한편 다섯 왕은 도망하여 막케다 동굴에 숨었다.	But these five kings fled, and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah.
17	이 정보가 여호수아에게 전해졌다. "다섯 왕이 막케다 동굴에 숨어 있는 것을 알아냈습니다."	And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah.
18	그 말을 듣고 여호수아는 지시하였다. "큰 돌들을 굴려다가 동굴 입구를 막고 보초를 세워라.	And Joshua said, Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave, and set men by it for to keep them:
19	머뭇거리지 말고 모두들 적을 추격하여라. 뒤를 따라잡아 한 놈도 성 안으로 들여보내지 마라. 너희의 하느님 야훼께서 그들을 너희의 손에 부치셨다."	And stay ye not, but pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for the Lord your God hath delivered them into your hand.
20	여호수아는 이스라엘 백성을 거느리고 그들을 호되게 무찔러 거의 전멸시켰다. 그 중에서 죽음을 모면한 자들은 견고한 성으로 도망쳐 들어갔다.	And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, that the rest which remained of them entered into fenced cities.
21	그제야 온 백성은 막케다 진지에 있는 여호수아에게로 무사히 돌아갔다. 아무도 이스라엘 백성에게 함부로 혀를 놀리는 사람이 없게 되었다.	And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.
22	여호수아가 명령하였다. "동굴 어귀를 열고 그 동굴 속에 있는 다섯 왕을 내 앞으로 끌어내어라."	Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave.
23	그들은 명령대로 예루살렘 왕, 헤브론 왕, 야르뭇 왕, 라기스 왕, 에글론 왕, 다섯 왕을 동굴에서 그의 앞으로 끌어냈다.	And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.
24	그 왕들을 여호수아 앞으로 끌어내자, 여호수아는 이스라엘의 모든 사람을 불러모으고 자기를 따라 싸우던 지휘관들에게 지시하였다. "앞으로 나와서 이 왕들의 목을 발로 밟아라." 그들이 앞으로 나와 그들의 목을 발로 밟자,	And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.
25	여호수아가 외쳤다. "두려워하지 마라, 놀라지 마라. 힘을 내어라, 용기를 가져라. 너희가 원수를 칠 때 야훼께서 그들을 모두 이렇게 해치우시리라."	And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the Lord do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.
26	여호수아는 이렇게 말하고 그들을 쳐죽인 다음 나무 기둥 다섯에 하나씩 매달았다. 그들은 저녁때까지 나무에 매달려 있었다.	And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.
27	해 질 무렵에 여호수아의 명령을 받아 사람들은 그 시체를 나무에서 내려 그들이 숨었던 동굴에 넣고 큰 돌로 동굴 입구를 막았다. 그것이 오늘날까지 그대로 있다.	And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had been hid, and laid great stones in the cave’s mouth, which remain until this very day.
28	팔레스틴 남부를 점령하다 같은 날 여호수아는 막케다를 공략하고 그 성 주민과 왕을 칼로 쳐서 숨쉬는 것이면 하나도 살려두지 않고 모조리 죽였다. 여호수아는 막케다 왕을 예리고 왕처럼 해치웠다.	And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof he utterly destroyed, them, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho.
29	여호수아는 온 이스라엘을 거느리고 막케다에서 다시 리브나로 발길을 돌려 리브나를 쳤다.	Then Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah:
30	야훼께서는 그 성과 왕도 이스라엘 손에 부치셨다. 이스라엘은 숨쉬는 것이면 하나도 살려두지 않고 모조리 칼로 쳐죽였고 그 왕도 예리고 왕을 해치운 것처럼 해치웠다.	And the Lord delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho.
31	여호수아는 온 이스라엘을 거느리고 리브나에서 라기스로 발길을 돌려 진을 치고 라기스를 쳤다.	And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it:
32	야훼께서 라기스도 이스라엘 손에 부치셨다. 이스라엘은 이틀 만에 그 성을 공략하고 숨쉬는 것이면 모조리 칼로 쳐서 리브나를 해치운 것처럼 해치웠다.	And the Lord delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, which took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.
33	그 때에 게젤 왕 호람이 라기스를 도우려고 올라왔지만 여호수아는 그와 그의 백성을 하나도 살려두지 않고 모조리 무찔렀다.	Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.
34	여호수아는 온 이스라엘을 거느리고 라기스에서 에글론으로 발길을 돌려 진을 치고 에글론을 쳤다.	And from Lachish Joshua passed unto Eglon, and all Israel with him; and they encamped against it, and fought against it:
35	그들은 그 날로 그 성을 공략하고 주민을 칼로 무찔러 숨쉬는 것이면 하나도 살려두지 않고 모조리 없애버렸다. 이렇게 라기스를 해치운 것처럼 해치웠다.	And they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.
36	여호수아는 온 이스라엘을 거느리고 에글론에서 헤브론으로 쳐 올라가	And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it:
37	그 성을 공략하고 왕과 모든 위성 마을의 주민을 칼날로 무찔러 모조리 없앴다. 에글론에서처럼 그는 그 성을 진멸하고 숨쉬는 것이면 하나도 살려두지 않고 죽여버렸다.	And they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein.
38	여호수아는 온 이스라엘을 거느리고 돌아와서 드빌을 쳤다.	And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it:
39	여호수아는 그 성과 모든 위성 마을을 공략하여 왕을 사로잡고 사람들을 칼로 무찔렀다. 그리고 숨쉬는 것이면 하나도 살려두지 않고 모조리 죽여버렸다. 그는 드빌과 그 왕을 헤브론을 해치운 것처럼, 리브나와 그 왕을 해치운 것처럼 그렇게 해치웠다.	And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to her king.
40	이렇게 하여 여호수아는 그 온 지역을 정복하였다. 산악 지대와 네겝 지방과 야산 지대와 비탈진 지역과 거기에 사는 모든 왕들을 쳐서 한 사람도 살려두지 않았다. 이렇게 이스라엘의 하느님 야훼께서 분부하신 대로 숨쉬는 것이면 무엇이든지 모조리 죽여버렸다.	So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the Lord God of Israel commanded.
41	여호수아는 카데스바르네아에서 가자에 이르기까지 정복하고 또 기브온에 이르는 고센의 전지역을 정복하였다.	And Joshua smote them from Kadesh–barnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.
42	이스라엘의 하느님 야훼께서 이스라엘 편에 서서 싸워주셨기 때문에 여호수아는 한번 출정하여 이 모든 왕들을 사로잡고 영토를 점령하였던 것이다.	And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the Lord God of Israel fought for Israel.
43	그리고 나서 여호수아는 온 이스라엘을 거느리고 길갈 진지로 돌아왔다.	And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.
