1	백성이 불평하다 백성들이 괴로워하며 불평하는 소리가 야훼의 귀에 다다랐다. 그 소리를 들으시고 야훼께서는 몹시 화가 나시어 불을 떨어뜨려 진지의 변두리를 살라버리셨다.	And when the people complained, it displeased the Lord: and the Lord heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.
2	백성들이 살려달라고 울부짖는 소리를 듣고 모세가 야훼께 기도하자 불이 꺼졌다.	And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the Lord, the fire was quenched.
3	야훼의 불이 그들을 살랐다고 하여 그 곳 이름을 다브에라라고 부르게 되었다.	And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the Lord burnt among them.
4	그들 가운데 섞여 살던 외국인들이 먹을 것이 없다고 불평을 하자, 이스라엘 백성도 다시 우는 소리를 했다. "아, 고기 좀 먹어봤으면.	And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
5	이집트에서는 공짜로 먹던 생선, 오이, 참외, 부추, 파, 마늘이 눈앞에 선한데,	We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:
6	지금 우리는 먹을 것이 없어 죽는구나. 보기만 해도 지긋지긋한 이 만나밖에 없다니."	But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.
7	만나는 고수풀 씨처럼 생겼고 빛깔은 브델리움 같았다.	And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium.
8	백성들은 돌아다니며 그것을 모아다가 맷돌에 갈거나 절구에 빻아 냄비에다 구워서 빵을 만들었다. 그 맛은 기름에 튀겨낸 과자 맛이었다.	And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.
9	밤에 이슬이 내리면서 그들이 진을 친 곳에 만나도 함께 내리곤 하였다.	And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.
10	백성들이 저희들 천막 문 어귀에 끼리끼리 모여서 우는 소리가 모세의 귀에 들렸다. 야훼께서 크게 화가 나셨다. 모세는 몹시 걱정되어	Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the Lord was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.
11	야훼께 울부짖었다. "어찌하여 이 종에게 이런 꼴을 보이십니까? 제가 얼마나 당신의 눈 밖에 났으면, 이 백성을 모두 저에게 지워주시는 겁니까?	And Moses said unto the Lord, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?
12	이 백성이 모두 제 뱃속에서 생겼습니까? 제가 낳기라도 했습니까? 어찌하여 저더러 이 백성을 품고 선조들에게 주시겠다고 맹세하신 땅으로 가라고 하십니까? 유모가 젖먹이를 품듯이 품고 가라고 하십니까?	Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?
13	어디에서 이 백성이 다 먹을 만큼 고기를 얻어주란 말씀입니까? 저에게 먹을 고기를 내라고 아우성입니다.	Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
14	이 많은 백성을 저 혼자서는 도저히 책임질 수 없습니다. 너무나 무거운 짐입니다.	I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.
15	진정 이렇게 하셔야 하겠다면, 차라리 저를 죽여주십시오. 그러나 제가 과히 밉지 않으시거든 이런 꼴을 더 이상 보지 않게 해주십시오."	And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.
16	야훼께서 모세에게 이르셨다. "너는 이 백성을 지도해 온 장로 칠십 명과 함께 나에게로 오너라. 그들을 데리고 만남의 장막으로 와서 서 있어라.	And the Lord said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.
17	내가 내려가 거기에서 너와 말하리라. 그리고 너에게 내려주었던 영을 그들에게도 나누어주리라. 그리하면 그들이 백성에 대한 무거운 책임을 나누어 져서 너 혼자 애쓰지 않아도 될 것이다.	And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.
18	또 백성에게는 이제 곧 고기를 먹게 될 터이니, 내일까지 몸을 깨끗이 하고 마음을 단정히 가지라고 일러주어라. '아, 고기 좀 먹었으면, 이집트에 있을 때는 좋았는데.' 하며 울부짖는 너희 소리를 야훼가 듣고 이제 먹을 고기를 주리라.	And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the Lord, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the Lord will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.
19	하루, 이틀이 아니라, 닷새, 열흘, 스무 날이 아니라	Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;
20	한 달 동안 먹게 될 것이다. 코에서 냄새가 나서 구역질이 날 때까지 먹게 될 것이다. '어쩌자고 이집트를 떠났을까?' 하며 너희 가운데 있는 야훼를 외면하고 그의 앞에서 우는 소리를 했는데, 어찌 그렇게 되지 않겠느냐?"	But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the Lord which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?
21	모세가 반문하였다. "저를 둘러싼 백성은 육십만 대군입니다. 그런데 당신께서는 그들이 한 달간이나 먹을 고기를 주시겠다는 말씀입니까?	And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.
22	양을 얼마나 잡고 소를 얼마나 잡으면 되겠습니까? 바다의 고기를 다 모아오면 되겠습니까?"	Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?
23	야훼께서는 모세에게 "야훼의 손이 짧아서 못할 일이 있겠느냐? 나의 말이 그대로 이루어지는지 이루어지지 않는지 곧 네가 보게 되리라." 하고 꾸짖으셨다.	And the Lord said unto Moses, Is the Lord’s hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.
24	칠십 장로가 주의 영을 받다 모세는 백성에게로 나아가 야훼의 말씀을 전하고 백성 가운데서 나이 많은 장로 칠십 명을 불러모아 장막 주위에 둘러 세웠다.	And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the Lord, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle.
25	야훼께서는 구름 속으로 내려오시어 모세와 말씀하시고, 그에게 내리셨던 영을 칠십 장로들에게도 나누어주셨다. 영이 그들에게 내려 머물자 그들은 입신하였다. 그러나 다시는 그런 일이 일어나지 않았다.	And the Lord came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
26	그런데 장로 명단에는 올라 있는데 성막으로 가지 않고 진중에 남아 있던 사람이 둘 있었다. 그 한 사람의 이름은 엘닷이요, 또 한 사람의 이름은 메닷이었다. 그들에게도 같은 영이 내려 진중에서 입신하였다.	But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
27	한 젊은이가 모세에게 달려와 엘닷과 메닷이 진중에서 입신하고 있다고 보고하였다.	And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.
28	젊었을 때부터 모세를 섬겨온 눈의 아들 여호수아가 아뢰었다. "우리의 영도자여, 그대로 두어서는 안 되십니다."	And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
29	모세가 그를 타일렀다. "너는 지금 나를 생각하여 질투하고 있느냐? 차라리 야훼께서 당신의 영을 이 백성에게 주시어 모두 예언자가 되었으면 좋겠다."	And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!
30	모세는 이스라엘 장로들과 함께 진중으로 돌아왔다.	And Moses gat him into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.
31	백성이 메추라기 고기를 먹고 벌을 받다 야훼께서 바람을 일으키시어 바다 쪽에서 메추라기를 몰아다가 진지 이쪽과 저쪽으로 하루 길 될 만한 사이에 떨어뜨리시어, 땅 위에 두 자 가량 쌓이게 되었다.	And there went forth a wind from the Lord, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day’s journey on this side, and as it were a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.
32	백성들은 몰려나와 그 날 밤과 낮 동안, 또 다음날 종일 메추라기를 모아서 진지 주위에 널어놓았다. 아무리 적게 모은 사람도 열 섬은 모았다.	And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.
33	백성들이 고기를 한창 뜯고 있는데 야훼의 진노가 그들에게 내렸다. 야훼께서 극심한 재앙으로 백성을 치신 것이다.	And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the Lord was kindled against the people, and the Lord smote the people with a very great plague.
34	욕심 사나운 백성을 거기에 묻었으므로 그 곳 이름을 키브롯하따아와라고 부르게 되었다.	And he called the name of that place Kibroth–hattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted.
35	백성들은 하세롯을 향하여 키브롯하따아와를 떠나 하세롯에 이르러 머물렀다.	And the people journeyed from Kibroth–hattaavah unto Hazeroth; and abode at Hazeroth.
