| 1 | 至愛なる者よ、汝等凡ての霊を信ぜずして、霊の神よりのものなりや否やを試みよ、其は多くの偽預言者世に出でたればなり。 | Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. |
| 2 | 神の霊は斯を以て知るべし、即ち肉身に於て來り給ひしイエズス、キリストを宣言する霊は、総て神よりのものなり。 | Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: |
| 3 | 又イエズスを宣言せざる霊は、総て神よりのものに非ず、是非キリストの霊なり。汝等曾て彼の來るを聞きしが、彼今已に世に居るなり。 | And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. |
| 4 | 小子よ、汝等は神よりのものにして、彼偽預言者に勝てり、是汝等に在せるものは、世に在るものより優り給へばなり。 | Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. |
| 5 | 彼等は世よりのものなれば世に從ひて語り、而して世は彼等に聴く。 | They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. |
| 6 | 我等は神よりのものなり、神を識り奉る人は我等に聴き、神よりならざる人は我等に聴かず。我等は是を以て眞理の霊と誤謬の霊とを識る。 | We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. |
| 7 | 至愛なる者よ、我等は相愛すべし、是愛は神より出で又総て愛する人は神より生れて神を識り奉る者なればなり。 | Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. |
| 8 | 愛せざる人は神を識り奉らず、蓋神は愛にて在す。 | He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. |
| 9 | 神の愛の我等に於て顕れしは、神が我等をして是によりて活きしめん為に、其御獨子を世に遣はし給ひしを以てなり。 | In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. |
| 10 | 愛とは斯なり、即ち我等が先に神を愛し奉りしに非ずして、神御自ら先に我等を愛し給ひ、我等の罪の為に御子を贖として遣はし給ひしなり。 | Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. |
| 11 | 至愛なる者よ、神の我等を愛し給ひし事斯の如くなれば、我等も亦相愛すべきなり。 | Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. |
| 12 | 誰も曾て神を見奉りし事なし、我等にして相愛せば、神我等の衷に止り給ひて、之を愛し奉る愛は我等に於て完全なり。 | No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. |
| 13 | 我等が神に止り奉る事と神が我等に止り給ふ事とを知るは、神が其霊を我等に賜ひしによりてなり。 | Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. |
| 14 | 父が御子を世の救主として遣はし給ひし事は、我等目撃して之を證す。 | And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. |
| 15 | 凡そイエズスが神の御子にて在すことを宣言する者は、神之に止り給ふ、彼も亦神に止り奉る、 | Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. |
| 16 | 神の我等に對して有し給へる愛は、我等こそ之を知り、且信じたる者なれ。神は愛にて在す、而して愛に止る者は神に止り奉り、神も亦之に止り給ふ。 | And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. |
| 17 | 愛が我等に於て完全なるは、我等が審判の日に憚る所なからん為なり、其は我等は此世に於て主に似奉ればなり。 | Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. |
| 18 | 愛には懼れなし、懼れは苦罰を含むが故に、完全なる愛は懼を除く、懼るる者は愛に完全ならざる者なり。 | There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. |
| 19 | 然れば我等神を愛し奉るべし、神先我等を愛し給ひたればなり。 | We love him, because he first loved us. |
| 20 | 人ありて、我神を愛し奉ると言ひつつ己が兄弟を憎まば、これ虚言者なり、蓋目に見ゆる兄弟を愛せざる者争でか見え給はざる神を愛し奉ることを得べき。 | If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? |
| 21 | 且神を愛し奉る人は己が兄弟をも愛すべしとは、是我等が神より賜はれる掟なり。 | And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. |
