| 2 | 至愛なる者よ、我汝が魂の榮ゆる如くに萬事に於て榮え、且壮健ならん事を祈る。 | Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. |
| 3 | 或兄弟等來りて、汝の忠實、即ち汝が如何に忠實に歩めるかを證したれば、我甚だ喜べり。 | For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. |
| 4 | 我に取りて、我子等の忠實に歩めるを聞くに優れる喜びはあらず。 | I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. |
| 5 | 至愛なる者よ、汝は兄弟等、而も旅人に對して、何事を為すにも忠實に之を為せり。彼等は教會の前に於て汝の愛情を證せしが、 | Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers; |
| 6 | 汝が尚神に相應はしからん様、彼等の旅行を扶けんは然るべき事なり。 | Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well: |
| 7 | 其は彼等は神の御名の為に出立して、何物をも異教人に受けざればなり。 | Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles. |
| 8 | 故に我等は眞理と協力せん為に、宜しく斯の如き人を接待すべきなり。 | We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth. |
| 9 | 我教會に宛てて一筆書贈れり、然れど其中に頭立つ事を好めるデオトレフェス我等を承容れざるなり。 | I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not. |
| 10 | 故に我が至りたらん時、其為す所の業を其心に喚起さんとす。即ち彼は我等を惡口して、而も足らざるものの如く、自ら兄弟等を承容れず、併せて承容れんとする人々を禁め、且教會より追出すなり。 | Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church. |
| 11 | 至愛なる者よ、汝は惡に倣はずして善に倣へ、善を為す人は神よりのものなり。惡を為す人は神を見奉りし事なし。 | Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God. |
| 12 | デメトリオは衆人にも實際にも證明せられ、我等も亦之が為に證明す、而して我等の證明の眞實なるは汝等之を知れり。 | Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true. |
| 13 | 汝に書贈るべきことは多かりしかども、我は墨筆を以て書贈るを好まず。 | I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee: |
| 14 | 願はくは不日汝を見て、我等口づから相語らん。汝に平安あれかし。友人等は汝に宜しくと言へり。友人等に、各名を斥して宜しく傳へよ。 | But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name. |
