| 1 | イエズス、キリストの僕たり且使徒たるシモン、ペトロ、我神にして救主に在すイエズス、キリストの義によりて、我等と等しき信仰を得たる人々に[書簡を贈る]。 | Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: |
| 2 | 願はくは、神及び我主イエズス、キリストを熟知し奉る事によりて、恩寵と平安と汝等に加はらん事を。 | Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, |
| 3 | キリストの神にて在せる大能は、其固有の光榮と能力とに由りて我等を召し給ひし神を知らしめて、総て生命と敬虔とに益する所のものを我等に賜ひしものなれば、 | According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: |
| 4 | 又其光榮と能力とに由りて最も大いなる尊き約束を賜ひしは、汝等をして依りて以て此世に於る情慾の腐敗を避けて、神の本性に與る者たらしめ給はん為なれば、 | Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. |
| 5 | 汝等も亦十分に注意して、汝等の信仰に徳を加へ、徳に學識、 | And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; |
| 6 | 學識に節制、節制に忍耐、忍耐に敬虔、 | And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; |
| 7 | 敬虔に兄弟的相愛、兄弟的相愛に愛[徳]を加へよ。 | And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. |
| 8 | 蓋若是等の事汝等にありて増加せば、汝等をして我主イエズス、キリストを識り奉るに於て、働かざるもの果を結ばざるものたらしめじ。 | For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 9 | 是等の事なき人は盲にして遠く見る能はず、其既往の罪を潔められし事を忘れたる者なり。 | But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. |
| 10 | 然れば兄弟等よ、汝等の召されし事、選まれし事を、善業を以て愈固うするに努めよ、然て之を為すに於ては何時も躓く事なかるべし。 故に汝等が現に此眞理を知り、且固く此上に立てるに拘はらず、我尚常に汝等をして是等の事を記憶せしめんとす。 | Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: |
| 11 | 其は我主にして救主に在すイエズス、キリストの永遠の國に入るの恵を豊に加へらるべければなり。 | For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. |
| 12 | — | Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. |
| 13 | 思ふに我が此幕屋に居る間は、此記憶を以て、汝等を励ますを至當なりとす。 | Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; |
| 14 | 我は我主イエズス、キリストの示し給ひし所に從ひて、我が此幕屋を下す事近きに在りと確信するが故に、 | Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. |
| 15 | 世を去りし後も汝等をして、屡是等の事を思出さしむる様勉めんとす。 | Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance. |
| 16 | 蓋我等が主イエズス、キリストの能力と降臨とを汝等に告知らせしは、巧なる寓言に基けるに非ずして、其威光の目撃者とせられてなり。 | For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. |
| 17 | 即ち彼は神にて在す父より尊厳と光榮とを賜はり、偉大なる光榮より聲之が為に下りて、「是ぞ我心を安んぜる我愛子なる、之に聞け」、と言はれしなり。 | For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. |
| 18 | 我等彼と共に聖山に在りし時、此聲の天より來りしを親しく聞けり。 | And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. |
| 19 | 又尚固くせられし預言者の言我等に在り、汝等之を以て暗き所を照らす燈とし、夜明けて日の汝等の心の中に出づるまで之を省みるを善しとす。 | We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: |
| 20 | 先斯事を知るべし、即ち聖書の預言は総て一個人の解釈を以て解せらるるものに非ず、 | Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. |
| 21 | 其は預言は昔人意に由りて齎されずして、神の聖人等が聖霊に感動せられて語りしものなればなり。 | For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. |
