| 1 | 汝等の中の長老には、我も共に長老として、又キリストの苦難の證人として、将來顕るべき光榮に與る者として希ふ。 | The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: |
| 2 | 汝等の中に在る所の神の羊の群を牧せよ、之を監督するに、強ひられてせずして喜びて神の御為にし、耻かしき利の為にせずして特志を以て行ひ、 | Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; |
| 3 | 托せられたる人々を壓制せずして、心より群の模範と成るべし。 | Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. |
| 4 | 然らば大牧者の顕れ給はん時、汝等凋まざる光榮の冠を得べし。 | And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. |
| 5 | 若き者よ、汝等も亦長老に服せよ、皆互に謙遜を帯びよ、神は傲慢なる者に逆らひて、謙遜なる者に恩寵を賜へばなり。 | Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. |
| 6 | 然れば汝等、神の全能なる御手の下に謙れ、然せば時至りて彼汝等を高め給はん。 | Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: |
| 7 | 思ひ煩ふ所を悉く神に委ね奉れ、神は汝等の為に慮り給へばなり。 | Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. |
| 8 | 汝等節制して警戒せよ、其は汝等の仇なる惡魔は、吼ゆる獅子の如く、食盡すべきものを探しつつ行廻ればなり、 | Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: |
| 9 | 汝等此世に在る兄弟等の同じく苦しめる事を知りて、信仰に心を堅めて之に抵抗せよ。 | Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. |
| 10 | 一切の恩寵の神はキリスト、イエズスによりて其永遠の光榮に汝等を呼び給ひしものなれば、聊苦しみたる上は、御自ら完全にし堅うし強からしめ給はん、 | But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. |

| 12 | 忠信なる兄弟シルヴァノを以て我が汝等に書贈りし所は、我思ふに簡単なり。是此神の恩寵の眞なる事を勧告し、且保證するもののにして、汝等宜しく之に立つべし。 | By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand. |
| 13 | 汝等と共に選まれてバビロンに在る教會、及び我子マルコは汝等に宜しくと言へり。 | The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son. |
| 14 | 愛の接吻を以て互に宜しく傳へよ。願はくは、キリストに在る汝等一同に平安あらん事を、アメン。 | Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen. |
