| 1 | 兄弟等よ、我律法を知れる人々に謂へば、汝等律法に人の司らるるは活ける間のみなる事を知らざるか。 | Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? |
| 2 | 蓋夫ある婦は、夫の存命中律法を以て之に繋がると雖も、夫死すれば之に對する律法を解かるるなり。 | For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. |
| 3 | 然れば夫の存命中他の人に就けば姦婦と呼ばるべきも、夫死したる時は其律法より釈され、他の人に就くも姦婦には非ざるなり。 | So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. |
| 4 | 然れば我兄弟等よ、汝等もキリストの[死]體に由りて、律法に對して死したる者となれり。是死者の中より復活し給ひし他のものに属して、我等が神に果を結ばん為なり。 | Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. |
| 5 | 蓋我等肉に在りし時、律法に據れる罪科の諸慾、死の果を結ばせんとて、我等の五體の中に働きたりしが、 | For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. |
| 6 | 今や我等は既に繋がれたりし死の律法より釈されて、儀文の古きによらず、霊の新しきに由りて事へ奉るに至れり。 | But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. |
| 7 | 然らば我等何をか云はん、律法は罪なるか、然らず。然りながら律法に據らずしては我罪を知らざりき。蓋律法が「貪ること勿れ」と云はざれば我貪を知らざりしに、 | What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. |
| 8 | 罪は機會に乗じ、掟によりて、我中に所有慾望を惹起せり。即ち律法なき時、罪は死したるものにして、 | But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. |
| 9 | 我は昔時律法なくて活きたりしが、掟來りしかば、罪は生回りて、 | For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. |
| 10 | 我は死せり、斯て我を活かさんとて與へられたる掟は、死を來すものとなれり。 | And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death. |
| 11 | 蓋罪は掟の機會に乗じて我を惑はし、且之を以て我を殺せり。 | For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me. |
| 12 | 然て律法は聖なり、掟も聖にして且正しく且善なり。 | Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. |
| 13 | 然らば善なるもの我に死となりたるか、然らず、唯罪が罪と明に顕れん為に、善なるものを以て我に死を來し、掟によりて甚罪深きものとなるに至りしなり。 | Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful. |
| 14 | 我等律法の霊的なる事を知る、然れど我は肉的にして罪の下に売られたる者なり。 | For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. |
| 15 | 蓋我が行ふ所は我之を知らず、其は志す善は之を為さずして、厭ふ惡は之を為せばなり。 | For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. |
| 16 | 斯て我厭ふ事を為せば、律法と同意して自ら之を善なりとす、 | If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. |
| 17 | 然れば今之を行ふ者は、最早我に非ずして我に宿れる罪なり。 | Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. |
| 18 | 蓋我之を知れり、善は我に、即ち我肉に宿れるに非ず、其は志す事我に近しと雖も、善を全うすることを得ず、 | For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. |
| 19 | 志す善は之を為さず、厭ふ惡は却て之を為せばなり。 | For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. |
| 20 | 斯て我自ら厭ふ事を為せば、最早之を行ふ者は、我に非ずして我に宿れる罪なり。 | Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. |
| 21 | 然れば我善を為さんとする時は、法として、惡の我に近きを覚ゆ。 | I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. |
| 22 | 蓋精神に由りては神の律法を悦ぶと雖も、 | For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: |
| 23 | 我五體に外の法ありて、我精神の法に敵對し、我を虜にして五體に在る法に從はしむるを認む。 | But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. |
| 24 | 嗚呼我は不幸の人なる哉、誰か此死の肉體より我を救ふべきぞ、 | O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? |
| 25 | 我主イエズス、キリストに由れる神の恩寵是なり。故に我は自ら精神に由りては神の律法に事へ、肉身に由りては罪の法に仕ふ。 | I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. |
