| 1 | 然らば我等何をか云はん、恩寵の溢れん事を期して罪に止らんか、 | What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? |
| 2 | 然らず、我等は罪に死したる者なれば、争でか尚罪に活くべき。 | God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? |
| 3 | 知らずやキリスト、イエズスに於て洗せられし我等が、皆其死に擬して洗せられたる事を。 | Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? |
| 4 | 蓋我等は其死に倣はん為に、洗禮を以て彼と共に葬られたるなり、是キリストが御父の光榮を以死者の中より復活し給ひし如く、我等も亦新しき生命に歩まん為なり。 | Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. |
| 5 | 蓋我等は彼に接がれて其死の状態に肖似りたれば、其復活にも亦肖似るべし。 | For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: |
| 6 | 我等の古き人が彼と共に十字架に釘けられしは、罪の身を亡ぼされて再び罪の奴隷とならざらん為なる事は我等之を知る、 | Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. |
| 7 | 死したる人は罪を脱れたればなり。 | For he that is dead is freed from sin. |
| 8 | 我等は信ず、我等若キリストと共に死したらば、亦キリストと共に活きんと。 | Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: |
| 9 | 其はキリストは死者の中より復活して最早死し給ふ事なく、死が更に之を司る事なかるべしと知ればなり。 | Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. |
| 10 | 死せしは罪の為にして一度死し給ひたれど、活くるは神の為に活き給ふなり。 | For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. |
| 11 | 斯の如く汝等も己を、罪には死したる者なれども、神の為には我主キリスト、イエズスに於て活ける者と思へ。 | Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. |
| 12 | 故に罪は汝等を其諸慾に從はしむるほど、汝等の死すべき身の中に王たるべからず。 | Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. |
| 13 | 尚又汝等の五體を不義の武器として罪に献ぐること勿れ、却て死したりしに活くる者として己を神に献げ、五體をも神の為に義の武器として献げよ。 | Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. |
| 14 | 其は汝等既に律法の下に在らずして恩寵の下に在るが故に、罪の汝等を司る事あるまじければなり。 | For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. |
| 15 | 然らば如何にすべきか、我等は律法の下に在らずして恩寵の下に在るが故に罪を犯すべきか、然らず。 | What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. |
| 16 | 知らずや、汝等順はんとて己を奴隷として献ぐれば、其順ふ所の者の奴隷となる事を。或は罪の奴隷として死に至り、或は從順の奴隷として義に至る。 | Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? |
| 17 | 然れど神に感謝す、汝等は罪の奴隷たりしに、交付されて學びたる教の法に心より從ひ、 | But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. |
| 18 | 且罪より救はれて義の奴隷となりたるなり。 | Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. |
| 19 | 我汝等の肉の弱きに對して、人の語法を以て云はん、即ち汝等不義の為に五體を不潔不義の奴隷として献げたりしが如く、今は聖とならん為に五體を義の奴隷として献げよ。 | I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. |
| 20 | 汝等罪の奴隷たりし時、義に對しては自由の身なりしが、 | For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. |
| 21 | 其時に今耻と為る事を以て何の好果を得たりしぞ、即ち是等の事の終は死あるのみ。 | What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. |
| 22 | 今は既に罪より救はれて神の僕と成り、其得る所の好果は聖と成る事にして、其終は永遠の生命なり。 | But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. |
| 23 | 蓋罪の報酬は死なるに、神の賜は我主イエズス、キリストに由れる永遠の生命なり。 | For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. |
