| 1 | 人各上に立てる諸権に服すべし。蓋権にして神より出でざるはなく、現に在る所の権は神より定められたるものなり、 | Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. |
| 2 | 故に権に逆らふ人は神の定に逆らひ、逆らふ人々は己に罪を得。 | Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. |
| 3 | 君主等を懼るべきは、善き業の為に非ずして惡き業の為なり。汝権を懼れざらんと欲するか、善を行へ、然らば彼より誉を得べし。 | For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: |
| 4 | 其は汝を益せん為の神の役者なればなり。然れど汝若惡を行はば懼れよ、其は彼は徒に剣を帯ぶるものに非ず、神の役者にして惡を行ふ人に怒を以て報ゆるものなればなり。 | For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. |
| 5 | 然れば服從する事は、汝等に必要にして、啻に怒の為のみならず、亦良心の為なり。 | Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. |
| 6 | 蓋汝等は亦之が為に税を納む、其は彼等は神の役者にして、之が為に務むればなり。 | For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. |
| 7 | 然れば汝等凡ての人に負目を返せ、即ち税を納むべき人には税を納め、課物を払ふべき人には之を払ひ、懼るべき者には懼れ、尊ぶべき者は之を尊べ。 | Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. |
| 8 | 汝等相愛するの外は、誰にも何等の負債あるべからず、其は近き者を愛する人は律法を全うしたる者なればなり。 | Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. |
| 9 | 蓋「汝姦淫する勿れ、殺す勿れ、盗む勿れ、僞證する勿れ、貪る勿れ」、此外に誡ありと雖も、汝の近き者を己の如くに愛せよとの言の中に約る。 | For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. |
| 10 | 愛は他人に惡しき事を為ず、故に愛は律法の完備なり。 | Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. |
| 11 | 斯すべきは是我等が時期を知れる故なり。即ち眠より起くべき時は既に來れり、蓋信仰せし時よりも我等の救霊は今や近きにあり。 | And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. |
| 12 | 夜は更けたり、日は近づけり、然れば我等は暗の業を棄てて、光の鎧を着るべし、 | The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. |
| 13 | 日中の如く正しく歩むべくして、饕食と酔酗、密通と淫亂、争闘と嫉妬とに歩む可からず、 | Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. |
| 14 | 却て主イエズス、キリストを着よ、且惡慾起るべき肉の慮を為すこと勿れ。 | But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. |
