| 1 | 然らば我は言はん、神は其民を棄て給ひしかと、然らず、其は我もイスラエル人にして、アブラハムの裔、ベンヤミンの族なればなり。 | I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. |
| 2 | 神は豫知し給ひし己の民を棄て給はざりしなり。汝等エリアに就きて聖書の曰へる事を知らざるか、即ち彼イスラエル人を神に訟へて言へらく、 | God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying, |
| 3 | 「主よ、彼等は主の預言者等を殺し、悉く主の祭壇を毀てり、然て我一人殘れるに、尚我命を求めんとするなり」と。 | Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life. |
| 4 | 而して神の御答に何と曰へるぞ、「我は己の為に、バアルの前に跪かざる七千の男子を殘したるなり」と。 | But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. |
| 5 | 斯の如く、今の時も亦恩寵の撰に由りて殘れる者は救はれたり。 | Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. |
| 6 | 恩寵に由れば業に由るに非ず、然らざれば恩寵は最早恩寵に非ざるべし。 | And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. |
| 7 | 然らば何ぞや、イスラエル人は其求め居たりし所を得ず、撰まれたる人は之を得て、他の人は頑固になれり。 | What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded |
| 8 | 録して、「神は彼等に茫然たる精神、見得べからざる目、聞得べからざる耳を賜ひて今日に至る」、とあるが如し。 | (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day. |
| 9 | ダヴィド又曰く「願はくは彼等の食卓、網となり、罠となり、躓くものとなり、報となれかし、 | And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them: |
| 10 | 其目は眩みて見えざらしめ、其背は何時も屈ましめ給へ」、と。 | Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway. |
| 11 | 然れば我は言はん、彼等の躓きしは倒れん為なるかと、然らず、却て彼等を妬ましむる様、其堕落によりて、救は異邦人の上に來れり。 | I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. |
| 12 | 若彼等の堕落が世の富となり、其減少は異邦人の富とならば、况や彼等の全數をや。 | Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness? |
| 13 | 蓋我、汝等異邦人に謂はん、我異邦人の使徒たる間は、我が[聖]役に榮誉を來さん。 | For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office: |
| 14 | 是如何にもして、我骨肉たる者を刺激して之を励まし、其幾何かを救はん為なり。 | If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them. |
| 15 | 蓋彼等の排斥が世の和睦とならば、其採用は豈死より再生するに同じからざらんや。 | For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead? |
| 16 | 若麪の初穂聖ならば全體も然あるべく、根聖ならば枝も然あるべし。 | For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. |
| 17 | 假令幾何かの枝折られて、野生の橄欖たりし汝之に接がれ、橄欖の根と液汁とを共にするものとなりたりとも、 | And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; |
| 18 | 枝に向ひて誇ること勿れ、誇らんとするも、汝が根を保つに非ずして根こそ汝を保つなれ。 | Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. |
| 19 | 汝或は言はん、枝の折られしは我が接がれん為なりと。 | Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. |
| 20 | 諾し、彼等は其不信仰に由りて折られしに、汝は信仰に由りて立てるなり。然れど驕ること勿れ、却て懼れよ。 | Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: |
| 21 | 蓋神は原樹の枝を惜み給はざりしなれば、恐くは汝をも惜み給はざるべし。 | For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. |
| 22 | 然れば神の慈愛と厳格とを見よ、倒れし人々に對しては惟厳格、汝に對しては惟慈愛、但是汝が其慈愛に止ればのみ、然らずんば汝も取除かるべし。 | Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. |
| 23 | 彼等も若不信仰に止らずば接がるるならん、其は神は再び之を接ぐことを得給へばなり。 | And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. |
| 24 | 汝は生來野生なる橄欖より切取られ、其本性に反して好き橄欖に接がれたれば、况や本性のものが原の橄欖に接がるるをや。 | For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree? |
| 25 | 兄弟等よ、自ら敏しとする事なからん為に、我は汝等が此奥義を知らざるを好まず、即ちイスラエルの幾部分の頑固になれるは、異邦人全體の入來るまでなり。 | For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. |
| 26 | 斯てイスラエルは挙りて救はるるに至るべし、録して、「救ふ者シオンに來り、ヤコブより不敬を去らしめん。 | And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: |
| 27 | 我彼等の罪を取除きたらん時、彼等と結ぶべき約束は是なり」、とあるが如し。 | For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. |
| 28 | 福音に就きては、彼等汝等の為に敵なれども、選抜に就きては其祖先の為に至愛の者なり、 | As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes. |
| 29 | 其は神の賜と召とは、取消さるる事なければなり。 | For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. |
| 30 | 斯て汝等も原神に從はざりしに、今や彼等の不從順に由りて慈悲を蒙りし如く、 | For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief: |
| 31 | 今彼等の從はざるも亦汝等の[蒙りし]慈悲に由りて己も慈悲を蒙らん為なり。 | Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. |
| 32 | 是衆人を憫み給はん為に、神が之を不從順に籠め給へるなり。 | For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all. |
| 33 | 嗚呼高大なる哉、神の富と智恵と知識と。其判定の覚り難さよ、其道の極め難さよ。 | O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! |
| 34 | 誰か主の御心を知り、誰か之と共に議りたるぞ。 | For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? |
| 35 | 誰か先之に與へて、其報を得ん者ぞ。 | Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? |
| 36 | 蓋萬事は彼に倚りて彼を以て彼の為に在り、光榮世々彼に歸す、アメン。 | For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. |
