| 1 | 然るに[聖]霊の明に曰ふ所によれば、末世に至りて或人々、惑の[種々の]例と惡鬼の教とに心を傾けて、信仰に遠ざかる事あらん、 | Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; |
| 2 | 是偽を語る人々の偽善による事にして、彼等は其良心に焼鐡を當てられ、 | Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; |
| 3 | 娶る事を禁じ、信徒及び眞理を知れる人々の感謝を以て食する様神の造り給ひし食物を断つ事を命ぜん。 | Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. |
| 4 | 抑神の造り給ひし物は皆善き物にして、感謝を以て食せらるる物に棄つべきはなし、 | For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: |
| 5 | 其は神の御言と祈祷とを以て潔めらるればなり。 | For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. |
| 6 | 是等の事を兄弟等に宣べなば、汝は曾て得たる善き教と信仰の言とを以て修養せられたる、キリストの善き役者たらん。 | If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. |
| 7 | 然れど世俗談、老婆談を棄てて、自ら敬虔に練習せよ。 | But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. |
| 8 | 蓋身體の練習は益する所僅なれども、敬虔は今世と來世とに係る約束を有して萬事に益あり。 | For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. |
| 9 | 是全く信ずべき眞の談なり、 | This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. |
| 10 | 我等が勞して罵らるるはこれが為にして、即ち萬民得に信徒の救主にて在す活き給へる神を希望し奉る故なり。 | For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. |
| 11 | 汝是等の事を命じ且教へよ。 | These things command and teach. |
| 12 | 誰も汝の年若きを軽んずべからず、却て汝は、言語、行状、慈愛、信仰、貞操を以て信徒の模範たれ。 | Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. |
| 13 | 我が至るまで読書、教訓、説教に從事せよ。 | Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. |
| 14 | 預言により、長老等の按手を以て賜はりし、汝の衷なる賜を忽にすること勿れ、 | Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. |
| 15 | 汝の進歩が衆人に明ならん為に、是等の事を熟考して之に身を委ねよ。 | Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. |
| 16 | 己と説教とに省みて之に耐忍せよ、其は之を行ひて己と汝に聴く人々とを救ふべければなり。 | Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. |
