| 1 | 然れば我が第一に勧むるは、衆人の為、 | I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; |
| 2 | 帝王等及び総て上位に在る人々の為に、懇願し、祈祷し、請願し、且感謝せられん事なり。是は我等が全き敬虔と正直とに於て、安らかに静なる生活を営まん為なり、 | For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. |
| 3 | 斯の如きは善事にして我救主にて在す神の御前に嘉納せらるればなり。 | For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; |
| 4 | 即ち神は一切の人の救はれ、眞理を知るに至らん事を望み給ふ。 | Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. |
| 5 | 蓋神は唯一に在し、神と人との仲裁者も亦唯一なり。是人たるキリスト、イエズスに在して、 | For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; |
| 6 | 衆人の為に己を贖として捧げ給ひ、時至りて其證據ありしなり。 | Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. |
| 7 | 我は之が為に立てられて宣教者たり、且使徒たり、――我は眞を言ひて僞らず――信仰と眞理とに於る異邦人の教師たり。 | Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. |
| 8 | 然れば我は、男子が何れの處に於ても潔き手を挙げて怒なく争なく祈らん事を望む。 | I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. |
| 9 | 婦人も亦斯の如くして相應の衣服を着け、己を飾るに羞耻心と節制とを以てし、縮し髪、黄金、眞珠、高價の衣服を以てせず、 | In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; |
| 10 | 敬虔を約束せる婦人に相當する如く善業を以てすべし。 | But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. |
| 11 | 婦人は全く服從して静に學ぶべし。 | Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. |
| 12 | 我は婦人の教ふる事、又男子を司る事を許さず、静にすべきなり。 | But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. |
| 13 | 蓋アダンは前に造られ、エワは其後なり。 | For Adam was first formed, then Eve. |
| 14 | 又アダンは惑はされず、婦は惑はされて罪に陥れり。 | And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. |
| 15 | 然れども信仰と愛と聖徳と節制とに止らば、子女を挙ぐる事によりて救かるべし。 | Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety. |
