1 兄弟等よ、時代と時刻とに就きては、汝等書遣らるるを要せず、 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2 其は主の日が夜中の盗人の如くに來るべきことを、自ら確に知ればなり。 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 人々が安心安全を口にせん時、亡は妊婦に於陣痛の如く俄に來りて、彼等は迯れざるべし。 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 兄弟等よ、汝等は暗黒に非ざれば、彼日は盗人の如く汝等を襲ふまじ、 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 其は汝等は皆光の子晝の子にして、我等は夜のもの暗黒のものに非ざればなり。 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 然れば我等は他の人々の如く眠るべからず、而も目醒めて節制すべし。 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7 蓋眠る人は夜中に眠り、酔ふ人は夜中に酔ふ、 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8 然れど晝のものたる我等は節制して、信仰と愛との甲を着け、救霊の希望を冑と為すべし。 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9 其は神の我等を置き給ひしは、怒に遇はしめん為に非ず、我主イエズス、キリストに由りて救霊を得させん為なればなり。 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 然てイエズス、キリストの我等の為に死し給ひしは、我等をして覚るも眠るも彼と共に生活せしめん為なり。 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
11 故に汝等既に為せるが如く、互に慰めて互に徳を立てしめよ。 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
12 兄弟等よ、願はくは汝等の中に働き、汝等を主に於て司り、且忠告する人々を識り、 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
13 其業によりて最も厚く之を愛せよ、相互に和合せよ。 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.
14 兄弟等よ、希はくは沈着かざる人々を誡め、落胆せる者を慰め、弱き者を扶け、凡ての人に堪忍せよ。 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
15 誰も人に對して惡を以て惡に報いざる事を心懸け、相互に又凡ての人に對して、何時も善きことを追求せよ。 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
16 常に喜べ、 Rejoice evermore.
17 絶えず祈れ、 Pray without ceasing.
18 何事に於ても感謝し奉れ。是汝等一同に於てキリスト、イエズスに由れる神の御旨なればなり。 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19 霊を消すこと勿れ、 Quench not the Spirit.
20 預言を軽んずること勿れ、 Despise not prophesyings.
21 何事をも試して善きものを守れ。 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 一切の惡の類より遠ざかれ。 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
23 願はくは平安の神御自ら、汝等を全く聖ならしめ給ひて、悉く汝等の精神、霊魂、身體を守り、我主イエズス、キリストの再臨の時、咎むべき所なからしめ給はん事を。 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 汝等を召し給ひしものは眞實にて在せば、此事をも為し給ふべし。 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
25 兄弟等よ、我等の為に祈れ。 Brethren, pray for us.
26 聖なる接吻を以て凡ての兄弟に宜しく傳へよ。 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
27 聖なる凡ての兄弟に此書簡を読聞かせん事を、我は主によりて汝等に希ふ。 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.
28 願はくは我主イエズス、キリストの恩寵、汝等と共に在らん事を、アメン。 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen. The first epistle unto the Thessalonians was written from Athens.
