1 神よ、いにしえ、われらの先祖たちの日に、あなたがなされたみわざを彼らがわれらに語ったのを耳で聞きました。 We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.
2 すなわちあなたはみ手をもって、もろもろの国民を追い払ってわれらの先祖たちを植え、またもろもろの民を悩まして、われらの先祖たちをふえ広がらせられました。 How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.
3 彼らは自分のつるぎによって国を獲たのでなく、また自分の腕によって勝利を得たのでもありません。ただあなたの右の手、あなたの腕、あなたのみ顔の光によるのでした。あなたが彼らを恵まれたからです。 For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.
4 あなたはわが王、わが神、ヤコブのために勝利を定められる方です。 Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.
5 われらはあなたによって、あだを押し倒し、われらに立ちむかう者を、み名によって踏みにじるのです。 Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.
6 わたしは自分の弓を頼まず、わたしのつるぎもまた、わたしを救うことができないからです。 For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.
7 しかしあなたはわれらをあだから救い、われらを憎む者をはずかしめられました。 But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.
8 われらは常に神によって誇り、とこしえにあなたのみ名に感謝するでしょう。[セラ In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.
9 ところがあなたはわれらを捨てて恥を負わせ、われらの軍勢と共に出て行かれませんでした。 But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.
10 あなたがわれらをあだの前から退かせられたので、われらの敵は心のままにかすめ奪いました。 Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.
11 あなたはわれらをほふられる羊のようにし、またもろもろの国民のなかに散らされました。 Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.
12 あなたはわずかの金であなたの民を売り、彼らのために高い価を求められませんでした。 Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase thy wealth by their price.
13 あなたはわれらを隣り人にそしらせ、われらをめぐる者どもに侮らせ、あざけらせられました。 Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.
14 またもろもろの国民のなかにわれらを笑い草とし、もろもろの民のなかに笑い者とされました。 Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.
15 わがはずかしめはひねもすわたしの前にあり、恥はわたしの顔をおおいました。 My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,
16 これはそしる者と、ののしる者の言葉により、敵と、恨みを報いる者のゆえによるのです。 For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger.
17 これらの事が皆われらに臨みましたが、われらはあなたを忘れず、あなたの契約にそむくことがありませんでした。 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.
18 われらの心はたじろがず、またわれらの歩みはあなたの道を離れませんでした。 Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;
19 それでもあなたは山犬の住む所でわれらを砕き、暗やみをもってわれらをおおわれました。 Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.
20 われらがもしわれらの神の名を忘れ、ほかの神に手を伸べたことがあったならば、 If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;
21 神はこれを見あらわされないでしょうか。神は心の秘密をも知っておられるからです。 Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
22 ところがわれらはあなたのためにひねもす殺されて、ほふられる羊のようにみなされました。 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
23 主よ、起きてください。なぜ眠っておられるのですか。目をさましてください。われらをとこしえに捨てないでください。 Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.
24 なぜあなたはみ顔を隠されるのですか。なぜわれらの悩みと、しえたげをお忘れになるのですか。 Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
25 まことにわれらの魂はかがんで、ちりに伏し、われらのからだは土につきました。 For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the earth.
26 起きて、われらをお助けください。あなたのいつくしみのゆえに、われらをあがなってください。 Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies’ sake.
