| 2 | （そして，その命は現わされ，わたしたちは見たので，証言し，あなた方にその命，すなわち父と共にあり，わたしたちに現わされた永遠の命を知らせているのです。） | (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) |
| 3 | わたしたちは見聞きしたことをあなた方に知らせます。それは，あなた方もわたしたちと交わりを持つようになるためです。わたしたちの交わりは父と共にあり，そのみ子イエス・キリストと共にあります。 | That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. |

| 5 | わたしたちが彼から聞いており，あなた方に知らせる音信とは，神は光であって，その方の内には少しも闇がないということです。 | This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. |
| 6 | もし，自分がその方と交わりを持っていると言いながら，闇の中を歩むなら，わたしたちは偽っており，真理を告げていません。 | If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: |
| 7 | しかし，その方が光の中におられるように，わたしたちが光の中を歩むなら，わたしたちは互いに交わりを持ち，そのみ子イエス・キリストの血がわたしたちをあらゆる罪から清めるのです。 | But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. |
| 8 | もし自分には罪がないと言うなら，わたしたちは自分を欺いており，真理はわたしたちの内にありません。 | If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. |
| 9 | もしわたしたちが自分の罪を告白するなら，その方は誠実また公正な方なので，わたしたちのあらゆる罪を許してくださり，わたしたちをあらゆる不正から清めてくださいます。 | If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. |
| 10 | もし自分は罪を犯したことがないと言うなら，わたしたちはその方を偽り者にするのであり，その方の言葉はわたしたちの内にありません。 | If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. |
