| 12 | それでイエスは再び彼らに話して言った，「わたしは世の光だ。わたしに従う者は闇の中を歩くことがなく，命の光を持つことになる」 。 | Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. |
| 13 | それでファリサイ人たちは彼に言った，「あなたは自分について証言している。あなたの証言は正当ではない」。 | The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true. |
| 14 | イエスは彼らに答えた，「たとえわたしが自分について証言するとしても，わたしの証言は真実だ。自分がどこから来たか，そしてどこへ行こうとしているかを知っているからだ。しかしあなた方はわたしがどこから来たか，またどこへ行こうとしているかを知らない。 | Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. |
| 15 | あなた方はうわべで裁く。わたしはだれをも裁かない。 | Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man. |
| 16 | しかし，わたしが裁くとしても，わたしの裁きは正しい。わたしはひとりではなく，わたしを遣わされた父と共にいるからだ。 | And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. |
| 17 | あなた方の律法に，二人の人の証言は正当だと書いてあるとおりだ。 | It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. |
| 18 | わたしは自分について証言し，わたしを遣わされた父もわたしについて証言してくださる」 。 | I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. |
| 19 | それで彼らは彼に言った，「あなたの父はどこにいるのか」。 イエスは答えた，「あなた方はわたしもわたしの父も知っていない。もしあなた方がわたしを知っていたなら，わたしの父をも知っていただろう」 。 | Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also. |

| 22 | それでユダヤ人たちは言った，「彼は自殺するつもりなのだろうか。『わたしが行く所に，あなた方は来ることができない』 と言うのだから」。 | Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come. |
| 23 | 彼は彼らに答えた，「あなた方は下からの者だが，わたしは上からの者だ。あなた方はこの世からの者だが，わたしはこの世からの者ではない。 | And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. |
| 24 | そのためわたしは，あなた方は自分の罪のうちに死ぬだろうと言った。わたしがその者だと信じない限り，あなた方は自分の罪のうちに死ぬからだ」 。 | I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. |
| 25 | それで彼らは彼に言った，「あなたはだれなのか」。 イエスは彼らに答えた，「まさしくわたしがはじめからあなた方に言っているものだ。 | Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning. |
| 26 | わたしには，あなた方に関して言うべき，また裁くべき事柄がたくさんある。だが，わたしを遣わされた父は真実な方であり，わたしはその方から聞いた事柄を世に対して話すのだ」 。 | I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. |
| 27 | 彼らは，彼が父について話していることを理解しなかった。 | They understood not that he spake to them of the Father. |
| 28 | それでイエスは彼らに言った，「あなた方は，人の子を挙げると，その時，わたしがその者であること，また，わたしが自分からは何も行なうことができず，父が教えてくださったとおりにそれらの事柄を話すことを知るだろう。 | Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. |
| 29 | わたしを遣わされた方はわたしと共におられる。父はわたしをひとりで残してはおかれない。わたしはいつでもその方の喜ばれる事を行なうからだ」 。 | And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. |
| 30 | 彼がこれらの事柄を話していた際，多くの人が彼を信じた。 | As he spake these words, many believed on him. |
| 31 | それでイエスは，自分を信じたそれらのユダヤ人たちに言った，「あなた方がわたしの言葉にとどまるなら，あなた方は本当にわたしの弟子だ。 | Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; |
| 32 | あなた方は真理を知り，真理はあなた方を自由にするだろう」 。 | And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. |
| 33 | 彼らは彼に答えた，「わたしたちはアブラハムの子孫であり，だれかの奴隷になったことなど決してない。『あなた方は自由にされる』 と言うのはどうしてか」。 | They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? |
| 34 | イエスは彼らに答えた，「本当にはっきりとあなた方に告げる。罪を犯す者はみな罪の奴隷だ。 | Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. |
| 35 | 奴隷はいつまでも家に住みはしない。しかし子はいつまでもとどまる。 | And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. |
| 36 | もし子があなた方を自由にするなら，あなた方は本当に自由になるのだ。 | If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. |
| 37 | わたしはあなた方がアブラハムの子孫であることを知っている。だが，あなた方はわたしを殺そうとしている。わたしの言葉があなた方の内に場所を見いだせないからだ。 | I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. |
| 38 | わたしは自分の父のもとで見てきた事柄を話している。あなた方も自分たちの父のところで見てきた事柄を行なっている」 。 | I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. |
| 39 | 彼らは彼に答えた，「我々の父はアブラハムだ」。 イエスは彼らに言った，「もしあなた方がアブラハムの子供であったなら，あなた方はアブラハムの業を行なうだろう。 | They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham. |
| 40 | ところが今，あなた方はわたしを，自分が神から聞いた真理を告げる者を殺そうとしている。アブラハムはこのようなことをしなかった。 | But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. |
| 41 | あなた方は自分たちの父の業を行なっているのだ」。 彼らは彼に言った，「我々は淫行によって生まれたのではない。我々にはただ一人の父，神がおられる」。 | Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. |
| 42 | それでイエスは彼らに言った，「もし神があなた方の父であったなら，あなた方はわたしを愛するだろう。わたしは神のもとから出て来て，ここにいるからだ。わたしは自分の考えで来たのではなく，その方がわたしを遣わされたのだ。 | Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. |
| 43 | あなた方がわたしの話すことを理解しないのはなぜなのか。それはあなた方がわたしの言葉を聞くことができないからだ。 | Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. |
| 44 | あなた方は自分たちの父，悪魔からの者であり，自分たちの父の欲望を行ないたいと思っている。彼ははじめからの人殺しであって，真理の内に立たない。彼の内には真理がないからだ。彼が偽りを語るときには，彼自身のものに従って語る。彼は偽り者であり，偽りの父だからだ。 | Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. |
| 45 | しかし，わたしはあなた方に真理を告げるので，あなた方はわたしを信じない。 | And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. |
| 46 | あなた方のうちのだれが，わたしに罪があると責めることができるのか。わたしがあなた方に真理を告げているのなら，なぜわたしを信じないのか。 | Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? |
| 47 | 神に属している者は，神の言葉を聞く。この理由であなた方は聞かない。あなた方が神に属していないからだ」 。 | He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God. |
| 48 | するとユダヤ人たちは彼に答えた，「我々が，あなたはサマリア人で，悪魔に取りつかれていると言うのはもっともではないか」。 | Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? |
| 49 | イエスは答えた，「わたしは悪魔に取りつかれてはいない。わたしは自分の父を敬うのに，あなた方はわたしを辱める。 | Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me. |
| 50 | しかし，わたしは自分の栄光を求めない。それを求め，裁く方がおられる。 | And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth. |
| 51 | 本当にはっきりとあなた方に告げる。わたしの言葉を守るなら，その者は決して死を見ることがない」 。 | Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. |
| 52 | するとユダヤ人たちは彼に言った，「あなたが悪霊に取りつかれていることが今こそ分かった。アブラハムは死に，預言者たちも死んだ。それなのにあなたは，『わたしの言葉を守るなら，その者は決して死を味わうことがない』 と言う。 | Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. |
| 53 | あなたは，我々の父アブラハムより偉大なのか。彼は死んだし，預言者たちも死んだ。あなたは自分を何者とするのか」。 | Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself? |
| 54 | イエスは答えた，「もしわたしが自分に栄光を与えるなら，わたしの栄光は無意味だ。あなた方が自分たちの神だと言っているのは，わたしに栄光を与えてくださるわたしの父についてなのだ。 | Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: |
| 55 | あなた方はその方を知っていないが，わたしはその方を知っている。もし『わたしはその方を知らない』と言うなら，わたしはあなた方と同じように偽り者になるだろう。しかしわたしはその方を知っており，その方の言葉を守っている。 | Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying. |
| 56 | あなた方の父アブラハムはわたしの日を見ることを喜んだ。彼はそれを見て喜んだ」 。 | Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. |
| 57 | それでユダヤ人たちは彼に言った，「あなたはまだ五十歳にもなっていないのに，アブラハムを見たことがあるのか」。 | Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? |
| 58 | イエスは彼らに言った，「本当にはっきりとあなた方に告げる。アブラハムが生まれる前から，わたしはある」 。 | Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. |
| 59 | そのため彼らは彼に投げつけるために石を拾い上げた。しかしイエスは隠され，神殿から出て行った。彼らの真ん中を通り抜けて行き，そのようにして通り過ぎて行った。 | Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. |
