| 1 | あなた方の中の長老たちに，仲間の長老であり，キリストの苦しみの証人であり，やがて現わされる栄光にあずかる者として，わたしは勧めます。 | The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: |
| 2 | あなた方の中にいる神の群れを監視しつつ牧しなさい。強制されてではなく自発的に，不正な利得のためではなく快く行ないなさい。 | Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; |
| 3 | あなた方に割り当てられた人たちに威張り散らすようにではなく，自分を群れの模範としつつ，そのことを行ないなさい。 | Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. |
| 4 | そうすれば，主要な牧者が現わされる時，あなた方は消え行くことのない栄光の冠を受けるでしょう。 | And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. |
| 5 | 同じように，若い人たちよ，長老たちに服しなさい。それだけではなく，あなた方は皆，互いに対して服し合うために謙虚さを身に帯びなさい。「神は高慢な者たちに立ち向かい，謙そんな者たちに恵みを与えられる」からです。 | Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. |
| 6 | ですから，神の強力なみ手のもとで自分を低くしなさい。その方がやがてあなた方を高くしてくださるためです。 | Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: |
| 7 | あなた方の心配事をすべてその方のもとに投げなさい。その方はあなた方のことを気にかけておられるからです。 | Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. |
| 8 | 冷静さを保ち，自制していなさい。用心深くありなさい。あなた方の反対者である悪魔が，ほえるライオンのように，だれかをむさぼり食おうと歩き回っています。 | Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: |
| 9 | 自分の信仰のうちに確固として彼に抵抗しなさい。この世界にいるあなた方の兄弟たちも同じ苦しみに遭っていることを，あなた方は知っているからです。 | Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. |
| 10 | しかし，すべての恵みの神，あなた方をキリスト・イエスによってご自分の永遠の栄光に召してくださった方が，あなた方を，わずかの間苦しみを受けた後で完全な者とし，確固とした者とし，強め，堅く据えてくださいますように。 | But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. |

| 12 | わたしたちの忠実な兄弟だとわたしが考えているシルワノスを通して，あなた方に短く手紙を書きました。あなた方に勧告し，あなた方がそのうちに立っているものこそが神の本当の恵みであることを証言するためです。 | By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand. |
| 13 | あなた方と共に選ばれてバビロンにいる婦人が，あなた方にあいさつをしています。わたしの子マルコもそうしています。 | The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son. |
| 14 | 愛の口づけをもって互いにあいさつをしなさい。キリスト・イエスのうちにいるあなた方すべてに平安がありますように。アーメン。 | Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen. |
