| 1 | それで，キリストは肉においてわたしたちのために苦しみを受けられたのですから，あなた方も同じ思いで武装しなさい。肉において苦しみを受けた人は，罪をやめているからです。 | Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; |
| 2 | それは，あなた方が，肉における自分の残りの時を，もはや人間の欲望のためではなく，神のご意志のために生きるためです。 | That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. |
| 3 | わたしたちはかつて，過ぎ去った時の間，異邦人たちの望むことを行ない，みだらさ，欲望，どんちゃん騒ぎ，浮かれ騒ぎ，飲み騒ぎ，嫌悪すべき偶像崇拝のうちを歩んできましたが，そうした時を過ごすのはもうたくさんだからです。 | For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: |
| 4 | 彼らは，あなた方が自分たちと共にそうした度を越した乱行に走り込まないので，ののしりつつ，不審に思っています。 | Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: |
| 5 | 彼らは，生きている者たちと死んだ者たちとを裁く用意のある方に言い開きをすることになります。 | Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. |
| 6 | というのは，この目的のために，福音は死んだ者たちにさえ宣教されたからです。すなわち，彼らが，肉においては確かに人間がするようにして裁かれていても，霊においては神に関して生きるようになるためでした。 | For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. |
| 7 | しかし，すべての物の終わりが近づいています。ですから，健全な思いを持ち，自制し，冷静に祈っていなさい。 | But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. |
| 8 | 何よりもまず，互いの間で真剣な愛を抱きなさい。愛は多くの罪を覆うからです。 | And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. |
| 9 | 不平を言わずに互いをよくもてなし合いなさい。 | Use hospitality one to another without grudging. |
| 10 | 各自，その贈り物を受けたところに従い，神のさまざまな恵みの良い管理人として，それを互いのために役立てなさい。 | As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. |
| 11 | だれかが語るのであれば，神の託宣を語るようにして語りなさい。だれかが仕えるのであれば，神が供給してくださる力によるようにして仕えなさい。それは，神がすべてのことにおいて，イエス・キリストを通して栄光をお受けになるためです。この方に，栄光と支配権がいつまでもありますように。アーメン。 | If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. |

| 13 | むしろ，キリストの苦しみに共にあずかる者となっていることを喜びなさい。彼の栄光の現われの時にも非常な歓喜をもって喜ぶためです。 | But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. |

| 15 | あなた方のうちのだれも，人殺し，盗人，悪を行なう者，または他人のことに干渉する者として苦しみを受けないようにしなさい。 | But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters. |
| 16 | しかし，あなた方のうちの一人が，クリスチャンであるために苦しみを受けるのであれば，恥じてはなりません。むしろ，そのことにおいて神に栄光をささげなさい。 | Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. |
| 17 | というのは，裁きが神の家から始まる時が来ているからです。それが最初にわたしたちから始まるのであれば，神の福音に従わない者たちにはいったい何が起こるでしょうか。 | For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? |
| 18 | 「義人が苦労して救われるのであれば，不信心な者と罪人には何が起こるだろうか」。 | And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? |
| 19 | ですから，神のご意志によって苦しみを受けている人々は，善を行ないつつ，自分の魂をその方，すなわち誠実な創造者に託しなさい。 | Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. |
