| 17 | それで，アブラハムからダビデまでの世代は全部で十四代，ダビデからバビロンへの流刑までは十四代，バビロンへの連行からキリストまでは十四代である。 | So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations. |
| 18 | さて，イエス・キリストの誕生は次のようであった。彼の母マリアはヨセフと婚約していたが，二人が一緒になる前に，彼女は聖霊によって妊娠していることが分かった。 | Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. |
| 19 | 彼女の夫ヨセフは正しい人で，彼女をさらし者にしたくなかったので，ひそかに去らせようとした。 | Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. |
| 20 | しかし彼がこうした事について考えていると，見よ，主のみ使いが夢の中で彼に現われて，こう言った。「ダビデの子ヨセフよ，あなたの妻マリアを迎え入れることを恐れてはいけない。彼女の内に宿っているのは聖霊によるものだからだ。 | But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. |
| 21 | 彼女は男の子を産むだろう。あなたはその名をイエスと呼ぶことになる。この者こそ，自分の民をその罪から救うからだ」。 | And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. |
| 22 | ところで，このことすべてが起こったのは，預言者を通して主によって語られたことが果たされるためであった。こう言われていた。 | Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, |
| 23 | 「見よ，処女が妊娠し，男の子を産むだろう。彼らはその名をインマヌエルと呼ぶだろう」。この名は，訳せば，「神はわたしたちと共に」という意味である。 | Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. |
| 24 | ヨセフは眠りから覚め，主のみ使いが彼に命じたとおりに行ない，自分の妻を迎え入れた。 | Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: |
| 25 | しかし，彼女が初子を産むまでは，彼女を性的には知らなかった。彼はその子をイエスと名付けた。 | And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS. |
