1 全地は一の言語一の音のみなりき And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2 茲に人衆東に移りてシナルの地に平野を得て其處に居住り And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3 彼等互に言けるは去來甎石を作り之を善く爇んと遂に石の代に甎石を獲灰沙の代に石漆を獲たり And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
4 又曰けるは去來邑と塔とを建て其塔の頂を天にいたらしめん斯して我等名を揚て全地の表面に散ることを免れんと And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5 ヱホバ降臨りて彼人衆の建る邑と塔とを觀たまへり And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6 ヱホバ言たまひけるは視よ民は一にして皆一の言語を用ふ今旣に此を爲し始めたり然ば凡て其爲んと圖維る事は禁止め得られざるべし And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
7 去來我等降り彼處にて彼等の言語を淆し互に言語を通ずることを得ざらしめんと Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
8 ヱホバ遂に彼等を彼處より全地の表面に散したまひければ彼等邑を建ることを罷たり So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
9 是故に其名はバベル(淆亂)と呼ばる是はヱホバ彼處に全地の言語を淆したまひしに由てなり彼處よりヱホバ彼等を全地の表に散したまへり Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
10 セムの傳は是なりセム百歳にして洪水の後の二年にアルパクサデを生り These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:
11 セム、アルパクサデを生し後五百年生存へて男子女子を生り And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
12 アルパクサデ三十五歳に及びてシラを生り And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:
13 アルパクサデ、シラを生し後四百三年生存へて男子女子を生り And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
14 シラ三十歳におよびてエベルを生り And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:
15 シラ、エベルを生し後四百三年生存へて男子女子を生り And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
16 エベル三十四歳におよびてペレグを生り And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:
17 エベル、ペレグを生し後四百三十年生存へて男子女子を生り And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.
18 ペレグ三十歳におよびてリウを生り And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:
19 ペレグ、リウを生し後二百九年生存へて男子女子を生り And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.
20 リウ三十二歳におよびてセルグを生り And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:
21 リウ、セルグを生し後二百七年生存へて男子女子を生り And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.
22 セルグ三十年におよびてナホルを生り And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:
23 セルグ、ナホルを生しのち二百年生存へて男子女子を生り And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
24 ナホル二十九歳に及びてテラを生り And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:
25 ナホル、テラを生し後百十九年生存へて男子女子を生り And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.
26 テラ七十歳に及びてアブラム、ナホルおよびハランを生り And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27 テラの傳は是なりテラ、アブラム、ナホルおよびハランを生ハラン、ロトを生り Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.
28 ハランは其父テラに先ちて其生處なるカルデアのウルにて死たり And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
29 アブラムとナホルと妻を娶れりアブラムの妻の名をサライと云ナホルの妻の名をミルカと云てハランの女なりハランはミルカの父にして亦イスカの父なりき And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
30 サライは石女にして子なかりき But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
31 テラ、カナンの地に往とて其子アブラムとハランの子なる其孫ロト及其子アブラムの妻なる其媳サライをひき挈て倶にカルデアのウルを出たりしがハランに至て其處に住り And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
32 テラの齡は二百五歳なりきテラはハランにて死り And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
