1 我が子よわが智慧をきけ 汝の耳をわが聰明に傾け My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
2 しかしてなんぢ謹愼を守り汝の口唇に知識を保つべし That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
3 娼妓の口唇は蜜を滴らし 其口は脂よりも滑なり For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
4 されど其終は茵蔯の如くに苦く兩刃の劍の如くに利し But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.
5 その足は死に下り その歩は陰府に趣く Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
6 彼は生命の途に入らず 其徑はさだかならねども自ら之を知ざるなり Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
7 小子等よいま我にきけ 我が口の言を棄つる勿れ Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8 汝の途を彼より遠く離れしめよ 其家の門に近づくことなかれ Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
9 恐くは汝の榮を他人にわたし 汝の年を憐憫なき者にわたすにいたらん Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
10 恐くは他人なんぢの資財によりて盈され 汝の勞苦は他人の家にあらん Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
11 終にいたりて汝の身なんぢの體亡ぶる時なんぢ泣悲みていはん And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12 われ敎をいとひ 心に譴責をかろんじ And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13 我が師の聲をきかず 我を敎ふる者に耳を傾けず And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
14 あつまりの中會衆のうちにてほとんど諸の惡に陷れりと I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15 汝おのれの水溜より水を飮み おのれの泉より流るる水をのめ Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16 汝の流をほかに溢れしめ 汝の河の水を衢に流れしむべけんや Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
17 これを自己に歸せしめ 他人をして汝と偕にこに與らしむること勿れ Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee.
18 汝の泉に福祉を受しめ 汝の少き時の妻を樂しめ Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19 彼は愛しき麀のごとく美しき鹿の如し その乳房をもて常にたれりとし その愛をもて常によろこべ Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
20 我子よ何なればあそびめをたのしみ 淫婦の胸を懐くや And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 それ人の途はヱホバの目の前にあり 彼はすべて其行爲を量りたまふ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.
22 惡者はおのれの愆にとらへられ その罪の繩に繋る His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
23 彼は訓誨なきによりて死 その多くの愚なることに由りて亡ぶべし He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
